Lela, I guess you didn't go to Little Italy. I'm far from New York, but we have imported Italian foods from Italy.pattygirl wrote:Don't know where Lela lives, but she said she was in NY and complained that only Italian food goods sher found were made in China. Re: General chitchat for August
I know Little Italy, fine restaurant Benito 2, one of the few who imports products from Italy. The pizza in Little Italy has a different taste because of the Italian tomato and mozzarella, which looks like a rubber. This is because imported Italian products would cost you a pizza too much.
The restaurants in New York, importing Italian products are many but those are very expensive and not every day you can spend $ 100 per person to eat.

There are many fine Italian restaurants in NY, Little Italy and other areas that use imported (from Italy) tomatoes, meats and cheeses. Their prices are not really that high. I don't know how much time you spent in NY, Leacorb, but it's a shame you didn't find out hidden treasures.

Summer's almost over hopefully with the heat, too. Other things will start to heat up, good things.

Lucy, my girlfriend lives in Texas (Frisco, just above Dallas). She said even the swimming pool is like warm bath water. Here in central NJ we're just high 80's, sorry you're having such a heat wave. Try to stay cool (a cool shower?)

Frisco's a nice city, I've never been but have seen shots of the city on the news. My pool is also like a bath, that's cause the evening temps haven't been under high 80's for awhile now. The other night I gave my dogs an outdoor shower it was 8:30 PM and the water coming out of the hose was like bath water, they loved it!

Would really hate that prolonged heat. We thought 103 was bad. Finally a bit of rain here and like Cindigirl says high 80's. Right now, I'd even welcome snow. I love the colder weather.

Pattygirl, now if we want to beat the heat we're just going to have to stop looking at George. He raises MY temp about 5 degrees. Or we can try looking at snowy landscapes or a snowman. LOL

Re: General chitchat for August
I am so frigging ready for winter. I feel your pain lucy. we've been in the 90-100 degree range all summer with heat index in the 100-110 range. I am over it! Our pool also feels like bathwater. I checked the water temp last night and it was 93 degrees at 8pm. And we have another 2 months before we'll see cooler temps. August and Sept are just as hot & humid here as it is in July. bleck.
cindigirl, I'll crank up the a/c a little more before I stop looking at George. LOL

Know what you mean, girls. Watched The American yesterday afternoon. Goodness, he looks good and he is soooo flexible. Don't personally care for the tattoos but I could overlook them. Wouldn't mind getting tossed around a bit like Clara. Whoa, boy! Broke into a sweat just thinking about it.

Katie you poor love! Couldn't do it myself, I'm a nibbler or grazer, so constantly have something on the go!! You should always keep stoking the boiler, otherwise if you let the fire go out, your body wants to hold onto reserves, and that's why some people are "larger" than others! Constant just means everythings chugging nicely, no need to hang onto the fatty stuff!! Simples!! Go on stuff your face with choc!!

There's nothing worse for me than too much heat, except too much cold, like something in the middle 50-80 degrees would be perfect! The only thing worse is not enough sleep, when you lay awake all night and can't get your brain to shut down, it's so hard to function the next day, hope you get some sleep it's me.
Katie put some fuel in, totally agree with fluffy, it can make you screw up your metabolism, when younger dieted alot after 40 it led to weight issues due to storing of fat.

Lucy, temps between 50 and 80 all year around would be like heaven.
I sleep like a log because I take an Ambien sleeping pill every night. Only thing is the side effects of that is crankiness in the morning. In the morning I'm like an angry momma bear. Everyone knows enough to stay away until I've had my first cup of coffee. LOL

Lucy and Cindigirl, make it 50 to 70 and I'll vote for that. The temp above 75 and I'm a wet rag. I sleep most of the night (except for several potty runs). When I get back in bed, I think of George and I'm off to dreamland again. I guess Geoge is my Ambien.

Re: General chitchat for August
That is my source of insomnia, lucy. I can't get my brain to shut down long enough to let me sleep. Well actually, I sleep fine for the first 3-4 hours then my brain goes into overdrive and the rest of the night is shot to hell.
I'll take 50-75 degrees any day. Anything in the 80+ degree range and I start getting irritable. I'm hot natured anyways (wear shorts & tshirt around the house in winter) so when its warm, forget about it.

Sisieq, I'll say what I said before -
"There are many fine Italian restaurants in NY, Little Italy and other areas that use imported (from Italy) tomatoes, meats and cheeses. Their prices are not really that high. I don't know how much time you spent in NY, Leacorb, but it's a shame you didn't find out hidden treasures." There is always imitation but they say it's the sincerest form of flattery. We have our Pizza Huts, Dominos, Chef Boyardee, Di Giorno, Tombstone and they suffice for those with no real knowledge of "Italian" cuisine. However, you will find that with each nationality. There are those who corrupt each nation's cuisine because they don't know how to achieve the "real thing". There are hundreds of very good restaurants in NYC and the outer boroughs that use good ingredients, both imported and where it doesn't matter, domestic. Meats, fish and produce grown domestically are just as good as that which grows in your native land.

A Ramaden diet is a bit extreme, I think. A religious sacrifice is really not a dieting technique. Lent is hard enough with the limited fasting, without doing complete fasting upseting your system. Try something easier please. Love your sense of humor, and don't want you to dampen it and get cranky.

What is imitation mozzarella? Do you mean domestically produced mozzerella? If that, no argument. However, lelacorb originally stated that all the italian products used in NY were made in China. Just have never seen that.

About sleeping… some nights I sleep well, some nights I wake up quite a few times with my brain in overdrive! I really think it depends on what’s going on. Before, I used to wake up off and on every night. So at least now I’m getting better sleep! Thank the Lord!
Good luck, Katie! But please be careful! Last time I fasted, I chose to go without choice meats. I had vegetables only. Not too bad but I really couldn’t afford to lose more weight.

NO! Not dieting!! Just joining everyone else in the month-long fast for Ramadan (religious thing although I'm not muslim).
I'm starting gently by still drinking in the daytime and will see if I'm up for the full fast next week.

Ha! Just had a look at the words people search for that bring them to this site. I really want to know what the 40 people were thinking when they typed this into google: "clooney's dog einstein from a dog"
I repeat 40 people reached this forum by using that search term! Or it could have been one person 40 times, but that would be even weirder.

Lol @ 40 people searching Google for that.
Speaking of not sleeping again. Our a/c is on the fritz so we felt like we were melting all night. Did I mention that the heat index has been 100-110 degrees? I really hope the repair guy shows up early this morning before the temp starts climbing again. Uggggh.

@pattygirl, my earlier comment regarding Katiedot trying out a new diet was meant as a joke. Didn't think anyone would take it seriously, yes I know about Ramadan, I actually got to experience the religious sacrifice in Egypt. Growing up, lent was also a part of my life, so please forgive my quirky sense of humor.
MGK, good luck with your AC, on Monday our power went out for 4 hours , the temp was 107 outside so it didn't take long for the indoor temp to rise. My heart goes out to you , it is uncomfortable with air, miserable without.
