LA-Italia Fest to Honor U2, Song 'Ordinary Love'

The acclaimed Irish rock band joins a star-studded guest list that includes David O. Russell and Steve Coogan.

ROME -- Iconic Irish rock band U2 will be honored by the Los Angeles-Italia Film, Fashion and Art Festival, adding to an already star-studded guest list at the event, which gets underway Sunday in Los Angeles.

The nine-year-old festival, which mostly focuses on the achievements of Italian and Italian-American filmmakers and entertainers, said it would pay homage to the group for its song "Ordinary Love," part of the soundtrack for the Nelson Mandela biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Actress Naomie Harris, who played Winnie Mandela in the film, will present the award.

The acceptance of the honor by U2 adds additional star power to the week-long event that already includes David O. Russell, director of ten-time Oscar-nominee American Hustle; Steve Coogan, writer, producer and star of Oscar-nominee Philomena; and a host of A-List Italian talents including filmmaker Roberto Faenza, acclaimed singer-songwriter Francesco De Gregori and choreographer Daniel Ezralow, who helped choreograph the opening ceremonies at the Sochi Olympics.

Italian-American actor Joe Mantegna will chair the event, with Italian actress and showgirl Elisabetta Canalis -- formerly linked romantically with George Clooney -- will be the event's master of ceremonies.

The Great Beauty (La grande bellezza), Paolo Sorrentino's biting take on the Italian capital that is a finalist for the Oscar for best foreign language film, will get the festival underway Saturday.

"The LA-Italia festival is an important bridge between two great countries, said Pascal Vicedomini, the event's founder who also heads two other festivals in Italy. "We're thrilled and honored to have all these great talents with us and look forward to more collaborations between the two countries in the future."

The event, which takes place at the TLC Chinese Theaters in Hollywood, is the last major event on the film calendar before the Oscars. It concludes March 1.

I'm 100% certain that getting pregnant is major news.

I have no issue with folks who like her.  What I have had issue with is post after post after post about her asinine life - day in and day out and the arguments that ensued between several posters.  No one could say a negative thing about her without there being name calling, fights and just constant bitchiness.

We occasionlly mention Lisa Snowdon.  It's not day after day after day of pictures, twitter feed comments, articles etc.  The point being that Eli snapping a picture of her ass, posting it on her twitter feed and then having one of her rabid fans / PR people posting it here almost on a daily basis got to be TOO MUCH.

So that's the difference playful between the Eli threads and any of his other girlfriends. You'll notice since the Amal enggement news and her wedding / baby news, there has been very little posted about Stacy and she was his most recent girlfriend.

There was an agenda with the Eli postings and that's what was my issue with it.

Yes, I agree. I'm sure there are some people on this thread still interested in Elisabetta, just as we are about other exes. That's why I've fought so hard to keep this thread open.

The problem, as Lorna mentioned, is that there are certain posters who are probably either official publicity reps for Elisabetta (or see them themselves as such) who used this site to promote her to excess. They were simply not able to control themselves and it got bitter on here very quickly.

To be honest the PDA's with Eli were the best of his life, very hot stuff!  Made me blush, wonder if Amal ever wonders "why is he never like that with me?"

Eli didn't show any signs that she was expecting, except for an early confirmation by someone else.
But did behave in a way that showed that she wasn't pregnant. Eli is the type of person who likes to brag. And women expecting for the first  time want the world to know every discomfort and joy of being pregnant, and eli loves to constant tweet about herself but nothing about her pregnancy, but continued living a very active life style.

I hope that this wasn't Eli's idea but her people's with bad judgment, and that's why Eli didn't tweet about she being pregos and her growing bump.

There are women going through terrible agony over the fact that they can't conceive or keep having a miscarriage.

And then for people to use this precious gift of lift as a publicity stunt is  sick.

I agree with you Joanna, disgusting that people would even question it.  So sad for her to have lost the baby.

hop around like a rabbit while being pregnant knowing the risks she was taking.

There are women as we write who are crying their hearts out over wanting
to conceive, and others make a joke of it.

Some people can't grasp the the significance of making a new life.

It is a God giving gift and not be mistreated.

It is no longer seen as a risk to exercise when pregnant in fact it is encouraged.  If you led an active lifestyle before you became pregnant doctors have no issue with you continuing the things that you do.  Her wanting to be healthy is a good thing for the baby and to say she did something and is to blame for her miscarriage is as bad as saying she faked the pregnancy.

There are proper exercises and nutrition for expecting moms.
And it is encouraged for a healthy development of the fetus and
proper muscle tone for the expecting mother.
