Ah, but can she learn? It's not easy changing habits of a lifetime and if it's fear she feels when in public, then she's going to respond to that fear the way she always has: pretending it's not there and looking down her nose at whatever's scaring her. That's my opinion why we get so many haughty pictures of her.

I'm just speculating here, I don't know what's going through her mind but it's what I suspect.

I just think it is tacky and shoddy "journalism" to write such an article about any woman, not just Ely. It continues the old notion that a woman must conform to society's beauty ideals at all times to be deemed of value and worth.

She really is only someone's girlfriend - she isn't famous in the UK in her own right yet this reporter expects her to be red carpet ready at all times?? Should she really be expected to prepare for the possibility of being papped especially when George isn't in town or with her? Tipped off candids (she does have a history of tipping off the press) or not, the tone of the article is just plain bitchy.

I've always loved Gallery of the Absurd's take on the DM. As a response to the endless 'look at her flab/cellulite/wrinkles' articles, they gave Paul Dacre (DM editor) a taste of his own medicine -

I think Eli loves the red carpet and the attention she just hasn't got a sunny disposition. If she had fear then why keep going on the red carpet? She has been doing this for years well before George. She dated soccer players and has had pap attention for years. This seems to be something she wants badly I just don't see the fear. I see ego and smugness! Although she has no reason for either. Even in the pics with the soccer player she looked smug although she looked happier and more relaxed with them then she does with George. It could be a case of be careful what you wish for.....I think the mags are playing off the women against each other. Eli is marked as the Diva bitch and Belen the sweet girl. Because in that world two women can't be friends and professional there has to be bitchfights. Eli's PR team had better start something soon cause all this negative press wont help Elisabetta get jobs. Who is going to hire a diva who doesn't show up to rehersals etc? Belen who someone said has a diva image seems to be reforming around Eli or she has better PR people then her!

I think Eli is just not talented. She has the drive and ambition but nothing else. She has hired the PR people to help her position the only way she can -

Watching--you are totally right, but it's not journalism, it's entertainment. It might make people feel a little better about themselves to pick on a woman (or a man) who seems on endless vacation, interrupted by the occasional glamorous photo shoot, and who presumably gets to have sex with a movie star.

It's not fair, I know. But fun!

Katie could totally be right, and the level of attention she gets with GTC might be way higher (therefore scarier) than with the soccer boys.

There's just no way to know. Frustrating.

Eva Cavalli (wife of Roberto Cavalli) was the art director for the shoot and she said, "Canalis and Clooney text each other all the time during the shooting and we send to him some photos. We have worked together with Canalis before and she is for the second time the face of our underwear line. We knew she was the right one for our style, she is charming and sensual.

"Canalis will wear our dresses at the next Festival of Sanremo (and it's seems at The Cannes Film Festival as well). Canalis is in great shape thanks to tough acquagym classes and she reminds us a lot of Cindy Crawford.

"Canalis is very strong and she feels confortable with the photographers. For the new ad campaign Canalis chosed to wear "castigate" bra.

"Maybe the next time George will be the face of our underwear line!"

I'm assuming that as the 2011 clothes must be in the shops by now that the photoshoot's been done and this is the first of a stream of publicity for the line?

My weak attempt to sum up what I've read here. I don't know Betty. I can, however, form an opinion of her based on what I've observed of her behavior (as well as G's). They've both made themselves "public" figures and therefore targets for all and sundry responses from varied sources. They'll earn no sympathy from me for all their cries of "privacy, or bad hair days", or any other pitiful excuses they use, as long as they continue to push their need for any and all attention.

Must say, this has always been my thought, too. She has had her own premiers for movies/calendars/fashion so she knows what's involved. I truly feel she's the type that likes this attention.

What surprised me about her is she has been quoted quite a few times saying how nervous she is and what an honor to be doing this; and yet, her agent books an Italian commercial in LA no less and she's a week late for rehearsals. I truly do not understand this strategy!

He is married? That last lot of pictures weren't so great should be interesting to see how they cover her tatts this time around. They are dressing her for san remo? Maybe they will do some fittings this time around and hopefully no zips will bust.

Yeah Sisieq! What do you make of it? Would they be showing The Descendents at Cannes? Zippergate all over again?

It looks like someone tacking on their own thoughts. Cannes is ages away and going by how the seperations seem to be getting longer and longer I doubt they will be a couple by then. I can't believe she keeps going back to Cavalli they have done her no favours in their outfits so I see why they keep choosing her for the underwear campaign but i notice he doesn't for the others.

For what reason would they be rehearsing for 12 hours a day this far out from the gig? That sounds bogus to me. The scripts would be written for them so no issue there. The stage direction wouldn't be able to be locked down until they got the venue. They are hosts - not the performers. The running sheet of the flow of the show and who is performing when would be organised by the producers, not the hosts. They have shot the advertisements to promote the show. Unless they are filming skits for between the performances, I can’t imagine why they would need d to be working 12 hours a day a month out from the gig – unless they were amateurs and this was their first ever live gig. And if they were having pre-prepared skits (which seem to be big in Italy), why would they have so many people “hosting” the live show?
Ely has hosted these things before so I would bet that she knows what is expected of her. Co-hosting a live show as a “personality” isn’t really all that hard. She is party girl – she knows how to have a good time. Someone else writes her a script (that she gets in advance) and then she gets a running sheet to know which order the acts are going to perform. Then she presents them all whilst being happy and perky. Not rocket science especially with the number of hosts this gig has. A couple of rehearsal prior to the gig would be all that is to needed address any issues and ensure that it runs smoothly and to the allocated time. These media write-ups sound more like the producers are trying to stir up attention for the show by pitting the women against each other.

I know watching it makes it sound like they are doing a play or something. Eli has had experience with this sort of thing but if you remember she also got the sack and only got hired back for a couple of gigs once she was with George. It is what I have been saying they are making Eli out to be the bad one and Belen the good and will be comparing them and trying to make out some sort of catfight between the two for sure. I expect to hear more stories, maybe Eli chucking a tantrum for her small dressing room and Belen going into a flaming house and saving kittens or something!

Elisabetta Canalis has never hosted an International show as big and important as Sanremo. If you google Belen Rodriguez you'll find 4 or 5 tv shows she hosted only in 2010. The reason they gave to Belen those tv host works and they didn't choose "Elisabetta most beautiful woman in Italy and George Clooney's girlfriend" it's beyond me

I believe that for Betty, there is no such thing as bad publicity. I also think she just loves all the posts about her on this blog and elsewhere. It doesn't seem to matter if it's negative or positive - people know her name and this gets her work. I also don't think she is shy or scared in front of the cameras or press. Working the media is her job and she has lots of experience doing it.

I agree Blubelle! Some think that her uneasiness is due to shyness or being scared. I don't. I think that she LOVES all this attention and just is thoroughly enjoying herself. But, most of it is thanks to George. Yes, she was known in Italy before July '09, but now she's known as George Clooney's girlfriend!

What is going to happen to everything that Eli is attached to when she's no longer attached to George? No one is going to be able to use his name in the same context they use it now. Cavalli's ad - "the face of Cavalli underwear - Elisabetta Canalis EX-girlfriend of George Clooney"

LOL, I totally understand the commerical is a paycheck, but unless the "week late" is fake on CHI's part, the commercial could have tried to be worked out earlier. Interesting, as far as we know, that EC's agent/PR are not denying that she is/was late.

If she gets more bad press from SanRemo she may not get a lot of lucrative commercials.

And why doesn't she update her personal website ???

Probably for the same reason that George or Stan made her close her Twitter. BIG MOUTH! She's losing followers on her MySpace page everyday.

Maybe her lateness was part of a PR plan. It certainly generated additional press for the festival. I think EC is very calculating. She knows what she wants and gets it. IMO that is also true for GC. That could be part of the attraction for both of them.
