Re: June 2014 chit chat
Yea Nicky I used to be able to eat tomatoes, no problem but then two years ago I had a nasty reaction that literally had me out of work for five days.
Now I avoid tomatoes like the plague! So it's not far fetched to suddenly develop an allergy or issue with gluten.
As to gluten free, there is a ton of info on the internet. Here in the US the gluten free products are getting to be more prevalent.
We never had these issues before. I'm going to bet it has something to do with either all the other STUFF they put in processed foods or the modified strains of wheat and grains that are used now.
Food Inc and Corn are two very interesting documentaries about our food supply. More so here in the US than in other countries we've modified things so much it no longer resembles food!
On a different note - I went to see the Tom Cruise film "Edge of Tomorrow " today. I found it very interesting. The concept of time repeating itself makes one think. Or at least it made me think.
I really enjoyed it - has some funny parts and Tom's reaction to his situation (living the same day over and over - not giving anything away this is in the trailer) is often fun and ironic.
Emily was wonderful - plays her role as tough yet quiet and introspective yet able to quickly ascertain what Tom's character is trying to do (or I should say - pull over on her).
I'm of the opinion that it would be quite arrogant of us to think that in the large cosmos out there we, those of us on earth, are the ONLY intelligent beings in it.
I think there are worlds out there with beings much more intelligent than we could ever hope to be so the concept of other beings coming here and deciding to take over isn't so far fetched for me. Hope it never happens but certainly don't discount the concept so that's probably also why I enjoyed the film.

OMG "Killer Tomatoes "
I think so too. Our food has changed over the years. Or better the ingredients...It is hard to understand the ingredients anyway. And everything has to be cheap so I guess that's the price we pay...
About the movie, I watched the trailer a while ago but I couldn't understand what the story was. It looked to me just like a weird war movie. So it is about aliens? And time repeating itself like the movie Groundhog Day?

Yes it is like Groundhog Day in that each time Tom has to do something different or learn something more to try to defeat the aliens.
Tom was on Jimmy Kimmel last week and he said filming it was interesting because they had to do each take over just a little differently each time.

Did all the celebs (including George Clooney) get paid for this? The 30-second version ends with George's dialogue from Gravity. This is the 60-second version.

Oh gosh, poor Nicky! hope you manage to figure out a good gluten-free diet. I know that it's much easier nowadays to find gluten-free stuff but what a pain to have to do it. I think there are a couple of other posters here in the same boat as you and can share advice.
Thought Edge of Tomorrow was really great and would recommend it. Had a couple of quibbles with the storyline (they were trying too hard to get him on the front lines that the story just got shoehorned into 'Tom Cruise has to be on the front line asap no matter how implausible' but if you ignore that, it's a really good film that makes you think.
My quibbles:
Yep, I'm really really worried about what we're eating nowadays. Even if you try to be really careful and cook everything at home from scratch there's no escaping that our food is changing. I've read that our fruits and vegetables don't have the nutritional values they did in our parents' generation because of breeding and modifications etc. That's really scary!LornaDoone wrote: We never had these issues before. I'm going to bet it has something to do with either all the other STUFF they put in processed foods or the modified strains of wheat and grains that are used now.
I liked it too. We were umming and ahhing over whether to see it, but, as much as I dislike Tom Cruise, I've got to admit he tends to pick good films. Even his 'trashy' films like the Mission Impossible films are watchable.LornaDoone wrote:On a different note - I went to see the Tom Cruise film "Edge of Tomorrow " today. My quibbles:
- Spoiler:
- I just don't think there's any way a completely untrained soldier is going to just get forced to fight on the front lines - he doesn't even know how to use any of the equipment they give him! Even in the most desperate wars we've given our soldiers at least a short basic training before sending them out to fight. Secondly, and this is more serious for me, I don't think there's any way in hell that his character - who was the face for the war on international televisions worldwide - would have gone completely unnoticed by everyone in the entire military. Someone somewhere would have asked a question.

Re: June 2014 chit chat
Was just looking at that piece of equipment that was delivered to George's house and like Nicky made me wish i had one of those in my house.
But then I had another really weird thought, maybe "I" should see how much weight I could lose before George gets married. Not that anyone is going to invite ME to the wedding but it would be an interesting time frame to work off of! If we go to September 12th, that's more than 90 days at this point.
Really concerted effort and I'll bet I could lose 20 pounds by then! (Don't know what that is in stones sorry).
Anyway, I think I'm going to try it - really though - I wanted to start doing this anyway, I've got a milestone high school reunion coming up in about a year so this would be a good jump start!
So is that called taking bad news and making a positive out of it! HA!
Anyone want to try with me? No pressure, just a way to get through the summer. Yes, we've got the watch George films activity, but I really need something to get me away from this computer so that I don't go crazy with all these George marrying stories!! HA!
Gonna to check out the local fitness center with a pool and get back into swimming three mornings (or more) a week! Yes, I know weight loss is 90% diet and 10% exercise but I like swimming so that may be a good motivator too - um, getting into a swimsuit!

When you say that out loud, you could toss 1.43 stones away with one arm tied behind your back!!!
20 Lb | = | 1.43 St |
Pounds (Lb) | Stones (St) | |

14 lbs to the stone so you're talking around a stone and a half, or around 10kg. I'm up for the challenge, although as a non-owner of scales (on principle), I'm not sure how I'm going to manage the weekly weigh-in.

Could always go by dress size. Or pick an item of clothing you can't quite fit into at the moment, and try it on every week until it fits.

I'm up for it too Lorna I went on my scale last week and thought OMG and then when I wanted to get off the scale I slip and the scale broke in 1000 pieces....that was weird...now I bought a new one. I want to loose 8 kg. Should be possible until September...I hope...
And I will start my exercise marathon next week when I'm on vacation....Yes I have a pool and buffet but I go with my friend who is a crazy sport addict and she warned me already we do sport from morning to evening sport.... I hope when I'm back I will continue with it...Lorna....keep reminding me of moving my ass hehe
I'm paying for the gym but I never go. I can't motivate me for the gym. I wonder if I have a exercise machine at home if that makes a difference

Feel like I'm carrying a couple of stones in my ass so best to get started. How about we get started on June 12th. Just so if anyone needs to eat up any BAD food they've got in their cupboards (or give away) they've go some leeway.
That would be then from the 12th of June to the 12th of September.

Good idea Duffy!
How about we do two week progress reports. Not what we weighed (god forbid I ever put THAT on an open forum) but how much we've lost or at least percentage lost of our ultimate goal!
And the dress or clothing item folks could tell us their progress like "I was able to fit one thigh in the dress before, now I've almost got two in there" or something like that! HA!

In the past when Ive wanted to shift a couple of kilos, I eat every 2 hours until 6pm, do that for 3 weeks and goodbye 4 kilos, but then I go and undo all my good work within the next 3 months, sticking with it has always been my problem.
So I'm in too.

Good luck ladies with your active summer project.
I seem to have lost a bit of weight lately by my clothes fit...I can wear a favourite black leather jacket again
without it looking too obvious that it's a bit on the
small side. Lol.
I wouldn't recommend my reason for the loss though,
not to anyone. Definitely a BumTits on Stilts time.

Well stress usually has me losing kilos but I wouldn't recommend that option to anyone either, so walking it is. Ive already started, had a big glass of drinking yoghurt instead of the scrumptious Riccotta pastries my Mother-in-law gave me yesterday!! The Italians on here will probably know the name of it better than I, but its Ricotta/Rice in pastry and simply worth losing your waist over!!

That's how I keep my weight under control. Walk 5-6 miles/ day, leave the car in the driveway and walk everywhere. Just a tip... if you are wanting to firm inner thighs, you have to do weight training/ weight resistance. Also, if you want to know where your weight stands according to the medical profession, check out your BMI ( basal metabolic index). Just type in BMI on Google. It will ask for your height and weight, etc. Then let you know where you are on the sliding scale. Good luck. I'm cheering for all of youamaretti wrote: This will be fun . That's not correct Alisonfan. The NYC premiere, night at Letterman etc. was on Feb 4 not the 7th.
The 7th was when the film opened in the US.
