A lawyer carrying a stack of files. Fascinating.
I'm surprised at that kind of photography frenzy being allowed once they were inside and in session. Sheesh.

Well, it's all grist to the mill - or cause in this instance.......obviously the court was cleared before the hearing itself. What they all said was the really fascinating bit...

Re: Amal Alamuddin and her work
Geoffrey Robertson is an excellent orator and you can see he has so much experience. Amal was so calm and confident even when the court asked her to cut her plea short (apart from the couple of euhm's).
The attention, as usual, was completely unneccesary and too much fuss but everyone is allowed to attend these hearings, so they can't throw the press out sadly.

She appears to be very well in control of the cameras most likely it is court room training. You have to take command and get your points across, by acting.

Re: Amal Alamuddin and her work
I was being (partially) facetious. But the cameras finding Amal does not mean she has to smile to them, not when she's in a professional setting. And I don't know what point she'd be getting across in those particular photos, except maybe, "I'm Amal Clooney, and you're welcome."
Still being facetious. Kind of.

Well if nothing else when she's in a courtroom she's now bringing international attention to the cause or case. Invaluable when the court of public opinion could make a difference in the outcome.
Probably got a big raise at work and a "well done" when the firm found out she was going to be Mrs. Clooney!

I don't like listening to her voice, it's too nasal and monotonous. She is not a good public speaker in my opinion. She sounded like a school girl reading a statement. I was bored listening to her and not intrigued.

Mm. Wonder how you avoid looking at this lot when you have to sit at the front desk
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Question: Is her voice more important than her knowledge and ability at an International court? Maybe she should have gone to RADA in that case, instead of just speaking clearly and succinctly and knowledgeably under all sorts of pressure
including time..........and managing to take a pop at Turkey's human rights record at the end....

Well found Jenn....I'm pleased to see Gio is there too.
Obviously Amal merits his presence as the
wife of his boss.
Photos appearing in the media of Amal Clooney
are inevitable during her first year
as George's wife.
I don't think she has any influence one way
or the other.

I don't think her voice is difficult to listen to at all.
She had a clear way of delivering her speech IMO.
It's good to see her at work, instead of the required
poses on red carpet appearances.

So what we heard from Amal yesterday in her presentation before the judges that's it's until the court rules? And it will take a few months for the court to decide? I'm just trying to understand the process here. Will there be any other interactions or written commentary presented to the court?

Re: Amal Alamuddin and her work
Good question.
Maybe keeping an eye on the Doughty Street Chambers website might be a good idea, but clearly with that number of people on the bench, I would assume we're unlikely to get a judgement tomorrow morning!
The number of photographers in the court yesterday was overwhelming, but hard to stop since it is a public forum
I see the posters' responses to the Celebitchy piece yesterday put the author right on a few things........!

Re: Amal Alamuddin and her work
Amal is a professional lawyer. She's been one for a few years now. She has received lots of accolades from those who have worked with her. It seems naive for those who are not in her profession and know little of her work to criticize the way she handled herself yesterday.

What is she supposed to do throw a fit , she was there to do her job and she did it. Why should she be annoyed she has been around cameras before they go along with the job at certain times. If she appeared annoyed people wold have had a field day what's wrong with her why is she up set. Come on she is doing her job and is probably used to the press.

Before the hearing, there have been written comments from all the parties. In the hearing they are once more allowed to plea their case with all the arguments and now the court is going to make a decision. I expected them to pick a date already but that wasn't the case, which actually wasn't surprising since the cases go on for so long. This will take at least a couple of months. Also, all the judges have to give their (written) opinions on the case. But Amal's plea is the only thing you will see her doing, unless she goes to the adjudication (I don't know how you say it in English) but then she'll just be sitting there I think.
And personally I have mixed feelings about Amal and the cameras. On the one hand, I think she behaved how she should. She doesn't let her feelings show and she appears to be finding it amusing. But on the other hand, it can also be interpreted in the sense that she looks as though she's loving every minute of it because she often looks right into the camera and genuinly smiles. So I don't really know...

Re: Amal Alamuddin and her work
Thanks Codexchick for your insight. I'm very unfamiliar with how cases work in international courts.
Regarding smiling at the camera Amal has since the beginning of her relationship with George not been coy in front of cameras. She has always had a pleasant smile on her face. She doesn't put her hands in front of her face, put her head down or walk away. My interpretation of those reactions is that she is a confident woman who is just trying to be pleasant. Others see it as wanting and loving the attention. I don't. Boy, when Amal doesn't smile for the camera there are lots of responses ... she's angry, not happy and she's not very pretty. The woman can't win. So what can you do. Just be yourself. And I think she is.
annemarie said it aptly above regarding her appearance in court yesterday.

I'm not being offensive, but I think that Amal was brought up in the "old school" British way of being pleasant and polite to everyone.

Re: Amal Alamuddin and her work
I know nothing of Amal's character. I just assume that if George Clooney loves her, she must be all that and a bag of chips. I'm simply making the observation that everyone else seemed to be in the same spot as she was, with the same cadre of cameras, and don't seem to be smiling right at them.
And I know that none of the photographers were yelling the QC's name to get his attention, so no need to bother with that argument. You know what I mean.

Perhaps you guys are completely unaware of the nutjob stalking George and Amal (online stalking, anyway - I'd make a good guess that there's a restraining order out on her)? Go and take a look at the posts on IMDb to see what sort of person they have to deal with. Remember in Greece when there was no protection and a woman just ran up to Amal and hugged her? Luckily that was all that happened but if I were George, I'd be insisting on some type of security for Amal in these kind of situations too. Sadly, since marrying George, she's not safe any more, not in a public place that's been advertised as somewhere she'll be a long time in advance.Alisonfan wrote:Mr C bodyguard IN EUROPEAN COURT! She can't win this one, can she? If she smiles at the cameras, she's wrong; if she doesn't smile, she's also wrong.
I'd also point out that the pictures published aren't all the pictures that were taken. They chose the pictures that they wanted the most, and as Amal's the main subject, they chose the ones where she's in focus and looking at the cameras.
