Back in the good old days, when Elisabetta Canalis and George Clooney were together, Clooney made sure that his girlfriend got some “jobs”. Clooney does this much too often - he picks up some cocktail waitress/escort and suddenly her job description is listed as “actress and model” and Clooney pulls strings with his friends to get her work. Personally, I find it kind of sad to see some 30-something “girlfriend of” try to pretend that she’s always wanted to be a runway model (Sarah Larson) or an underwear model (Elisabetta). When Eli and George were together, Eli got a contract with Roberto Cavalli, she got more “presenting/hostessing” gigs in Italy, and she got to make her debut on American television in the show Leverage. That’s really where it should have ended, because once people saw Elisabetta in action on screen, it was pretty obvious that her talents were never going to be found in front of a camera. Elisabetta Canalis doesn’t appear to be wilting over her ex George Clooney’s new relationship with former wrestler Stacy Keibler. A confident-looking Canalis has been doing the rounds in Los Angeles taking meetings, sources tell us.

Showing off her figure in leather pants, she was spotted late last week dining at Ago in West Hollywood with girlfriends including “Watchmen” star Carla Gugino.

Well, maybe people are just being polite. She can take meetings and never get another role in Hollywood again. Of course, there will be someone, some dumbass, who agrees with Elisabetta and thinks that because Eli has made a “name” for herself (as “the girlfriend of”) then suddenly, she’s got a career. Look, I don’t have a problem with Elisabetta being a celebrity in Italy - good for her, and that’s where she should stay. But let’s not pretend that Clooney’s girlfriends should have Hollywood careers after he dumps them. After all, I’m sure Stacy Keibler is “taking meetings” right now too. There will always be a new crop.

Funny how Ted hasn't mentioned any meetings or future work for Eli. He seems to be keeping an eye on her. Maybe someone should ask him! Glad Celebitchy is calling it the same way I see it. I don't see Eli getting any real sort of work in the US she clearly has no talent if she had she would have gotten work while she was with George. Eli needs to go back to Italy. Or she may end up hooking up with some D lister someone younger then George that would be a statement on her part. Dinner with friends not so much a statement but great timing and the only attention she has had from paps since she has been in LA. Things aren't looking good for her really!

What you have in Sydney is CANALI not CANALIS. The Canali is a very old and well recognized Italian Men's fashion line, like Zegna and Cerruti. See below:

I think the expectation that her alleged big project would be in the press straight away is a bit optimistic. I can't imagine that she had any work previously planned to start or being the press before Sept at the earliest. Betty would have expected to have been in Como all this time for the summer and whilst George was travelling for work she could have spent time with family and friends then hit the Venice Film Festival. After that, she planned to be based in LA and working - hopefully when the PETA campaign got released in the fall (Sept to Nov). We had heard nothing of her work plans at the time of the split and then she was a surprise appearance at a few fashion shows (paid appearances most likely) and other than the tweeted Harper’s photo shoot which is most likely to be linked to the PETA campaign, that’s it so far. Her modelling contracts are all in Europe so I can’t see them popping up as relevant in the States but who knows? It's not a lot to build on for a career being "famous" in the States.

The “big project” is most likely talk and there is nothing in particular lined up. Didn’t the Italian write up state that she had yet to sign a contract for this supposed project? Betty and her people may think that as soon as she hits the audition / casting circuit in LA, she will get hired. You know because of her outstanding talent, diligent work ethic and humble nature (ha!). Her experience in Italy might just be that she could pick up work when it was on offer because she had enough of a profile for it to be a positive for the project. She did get hired for many different things pre George (not that she was overly good in any of them and she seemed to get work after someone else had dropped out or through her boyfriend connections) – but she still got hired. Maybe they think that will happen in LA.

They might not understand the number of starlets & wannabes in LA who want to be famous and are willing to use T & A to get there - exactly the same way that Betty has and is willing to. In Italy she was known, in LA she is just another wannabe actress / presenter / model who will get the occasional bit of press due to who she once dated. Nothing special or unique about that – lots of women in the same boat. That really isn’t enough to build a career out of when you are 33, can’t speak the native language naturally without a heavy accent, have a rep of being difficult and appears standoffish, and won’t be accepted by the conservatives of the world who disapprove of the number of nude shots (and the numerous "presenting of the ass in a thong bikini to the paps" shots) that are floating around of her in cyber space. Not trying to be intentional critical but these factors will work against her trying to break into the US market which can be harsh and judgemental if you aren't local, 21 and perky - especially if by signing with the modelling agency, she plans to predominantly be a model / spokesperson in the States.

Depending upon what type of commercial space they were renting/leasing in Beverly Hills, it would take anywhere from 6mo. to a year to build out the suite/shop fit for opening. Of course the time frame would depend upon what type of business was in the space prior and how much of it had to be renovated to transform it into a dress shop, with shelving and show cases etc. whatever their specific needs are to display their product line. It doesn't happen over night although they could have been planning this for sometime already and could be nearing completion.

I did not get it right away because it is not the first time that the name of Betty has been mispelled. On the website of L.A. Models, under her pic there is the name "Canali". I guess everyone thinks that Italian names should end with vowels WHICH THEY DO.... 99.5% of the time except for people born in the Venice area and the island of Sardinia (where Betty is from). Their last name can end with a consonant.

I don't know if someone already post the Vanity Fair italy article today talking about Eli. There was a great denial about the sauce and eggplant, the possibility of George brings Stacy (they call her Barbie) to Venice and finally a possible project in American Idol ( ????? and they are confirming the the clothes store with partner Valentina to open on October in L.A.

After a minute's thought (and after I explained that it has no meaning at all in English - we don't even have buffalos in the UK) she wonders if maybe it's a mistranslation of an Italian word which kind of means cow but is a lot harsher than it is in English. Sort of like 'the gossip bitches'.

Well that makes sense but the American Idol stuff doesn't. What on earth would she do on the show? Everyone has signed back on and I doubt Ryan would give up his role. So her clothes will just be for celebs? That is going to make her market pretty small! And she is still not ruling out talking I think about the time of the store opening will be perfect timing if she does it.

Doesn't Ryan Seacrest host Idol? No way that man would be ok with another presenter coming in and co-hosting with him. They had a co-host in the first year I think and it failed to work. Not to mention that I can't imagine that JLo would be ok with a woman who is younger and thinner than her coming onto the show in a major position. Because the comparisons would start and JLo needs to be the female star there and whilst Betty can't compete on name recognition or actual achievements, you get her some good makeup people, soft lighting and a damn good stylist - JLo would see her as a threat and would nix that idea in a heartbeat.

OK this might make me a bad person but I kinda hope she does get some presenting gig on US TV because she will fail. She won't be lauded for her talent as a presenter as she just doesn't have what it takes to succeed there. Then there will be even less reason for the paps to cover her. I mean she seemed bearable in the Italian productions even though the Italian press and blogs were harsh. And that was in her own language - how she is going to cope in another language on possibly live tv where she needs to be able to ad lib and react to any changes that occur throughout the show. That would make her a liability, not an asset to any program. She couldn't even turn up to rehearsals on time for San Remo - that won't fly in LA on any network when she decides the store or being papped or shopping or vacationing is her priority instead of doing the behind the scenes work to prepare for the show. One of the Simon Cowell shows would be good for her as he happily fires people for not being capable of doing the job that they were hired to do (snark).

Without the George buffer, there will be no favours given or excuses accepted (and you know it is never her fault when she fails). She will need to step up and I really doubt she has the capacity or want to put in the hard yards to develop a career from the bottom rung on the ladder instead of expecting it be presented to her on a silver platter whilst in a bikini in Mexico bending over for the paps . While I agree with every sentiment Watching, I have to ask: Why can't Betty do it? Paris Hilton has! Snooky has!

Charley - personally I think Betty is different from those names because other than dancing semi nude on a table on a tv show (which I would confidently bet there was a casting couch involveed), she seems to have gotten most of her opportunities because of the attention that came with who she dated, not through actual work that was well received or rated well. Not saying that she may have gotten work otherwise but the boyfriends and the media attention that comes with those relationships seems to be a predominant factor in her having a continued career. I think she is very used to getting work because she is in the tabloids and is a known personability. I don't think she has actually had to "work" hard for roles or done much on the audition circuit in Italy and that could undermine any jobs she tries to line up from herself in the States. Her expectations of how she normally gets work most likely will not be on par with how she needs to actually go about seeking work in Hollywood.

Paris had the sex tape which she leveraged into a reality show which is what made her a household name and if I recall, was a huge hit for the first couple of seasons. No boyfriend or parent pulled any strings to get her the gig. She's a bit sad now but she was famous for an actual reason other than a surname or the sex tape. Snooki has no talent (that I can see but I have never sat through an episode of Jersey Shore so I don't know) but she must have at least auditioned for the reality show and shown the producers that she was able to bring something to the table to get the job over however many other people auditioned. And the show is insanely popular so she must have done something right. Not saying it's high brow at all but at least it appears that she got the gig on her merits and not through who she was sleeping with.

I just don't see Hollywood in general lining up to give her work based on the gigs that were known in the States she had when dating G - San Remo, Cavalli and Leverage. They weren't well received and I just don't see her willing to do the work hence why I think she will ultimately fail. Unless she does a complete 180 and maybe her LA agents have advised her that woulod be required to make a go of it in LA but I think she has been told for more than 10 years in Italy by those on the payroll that she is perfect, beautiful, talented and funny. To stop believing that after all that time and truly understand that you are not more special or unique that all the other Hollywood wannabes would be difficult and I doubt she has the self awareness to process it and learn from it (i.e. see her 'anyone who doesn't like me is a hater' comments or 'my fairytale continues' commentary). That abiilty to be peronally removed from the situation and judge things from a business perpective is not something I think she has the abilty to do. She thinks she is special. That level of entitlement is a hard habit to break and in such a short period of time, I just don't see her capable of it.

I think of it as an import store - solely with stuff from Italy. And maybe Betty has designed another range of clothes that she will sell through the store.....

Yeah, that sounds familiar. I think in whatever "article/post" I first read about the shop that was its main aim - to introduce, as it were, new Italian designers to the American market. But I don't remember her ever designing a range of clothes - maybe it was in the time I was trying to completely ignore her and so I missed it.

Several years ago she designed some stuff it wasn't very good, so I doubt she will do it again unless she still has leftover stock. LOL It is supposed to introduce new Italian designers to the US from what I remember too. I'm sure we will be hearing more about it in the few weeks ahead. No point keeping it quiet! “Bufala” is a very common word in Italy to describe an unfounded story, utter rubbish, stupid, annoying, fake, made up. The word originates from the local Roman dialect but has now been picked up by all Italians.

IMHO I thing that Val Michetti is trying extremely hard to find a job for Eli in the entertainment industry. She may have been telling American Idol’s reps that Eli would be a great candidate as she was involved in the San Remo Festival last February, a musical competition, not like AI but close enough for those who don’t know anything about it. In San Remo, Eli was not “judging” the candidates but was just shaking her booty, smiling and changing designers’ outfits all night long to keep the viewers’ attention up.

The sad thing is that Eli is trying to get a career she doesn't have any talent for.
Unfortunately, she doesn't seem to have the right friends to tell her that and so she might never find out what her real talent is.

Eli has tried an awful lot of careers, acting, modeling, presenting, designing. Not much left in the entertainment industry for her to do. Eli want's to be famous to be seen she just doesn't have any talent for it to happen. I think Val does it as much for herself as for Eli. But it sounds like they are finding out things are very different in Hollywood. Italy seems ok with her lack of any actual skills but LA is the mecca for wannabe's who are prettier and have actual talent. I think American Idol was put out there but I really doubt it was anything real. I am saying this because AI has a formula and I can't see how Eli would fit in. Something to get people interested and make them think Eli was in demand. It just isn't working. I only see a reality show as an option for her. But then someone needs to be interested in working with her! I wonder how long she will give it before she goes back to Italy?

She didn't she smouted for the past two years and acted bored everytime she was photographed. Val should have talked to her then she probably would have been a little more marketable. Are you guys talking about the same Elisabetta Canalis who dated George Clooney? Becaue if so, you've somehow managed to completely miss the fact that talentless as she is, she's GOT a successful career that's lasted 10 years already and has made millions from it. She's also now 'famous' enough to get magazine articles and TV ads in Germany and Spain, although thankfully not yet the UK or US.

Will she be able to parlay that into fame in the US? I seriously doubt it, but then I wouldn't have predicted the fame of the Kardashians either (one sex tape, one famous boyfriend, one shop - even Betty has more going for her than that).

I think the idea that she'd be a judge on American Idol absolutely laughable but the entertainment industry is all about hyping yourself up and exaggerating everything.

Nobody really cares what she's really like in person as long as she can sell their product (be it clothes, tv show or whatever).

Believe me, I'd like to see her fail and disappear forever, but she's been doing this for 10 years now and has always managed to get work. I wouldn't dismiss her as a failure when we have no idea who she's meeting or what she's doing.

I think we are talking about a US career which Bette seems so desperate for. I don't think anyone believes she will be able to get much work there. If she couldn't get work with George it makes no sense to me that she is going to get any in the States now. That is why I said she should go back to Italy that is where she will get work they don't seem to have a problem with her lack of talent. The problem for Eli is even in her own country younger and hotter girls are coming up and showing they can do the jobs better then she can. Belen seems to be a favourite at the moment. But she always has managed to land on her feet. That AI rumour was just stupid and makes her seem really desperate I can't see how any one would believe it for a second and it is so easy to check out. If she was really being considered for something I would think that would have been mentioned over AI. I think her attitude does actually matter someone with a lot of talent can get away with being arrogant etc but someone starting out who seems to already have such an attitude isn't someone people are going to put themselves out of their way for. You have to impress people and make connections before you get the work if you rub people up the wrong way you aren't going to get the jobs. Hollywood is full of pretty girls like Eli her big claim to fame in LA is bedding George and even that isn't an exclusive club in that town. Even George had to schmooze early on in his career you get people to like you and to notice you and you get jobs. We will see how she goes over the next 12 months and if she actually gets any roles or gigs besides the PETa one which she got with George and the Harpers which would have been on the cards before the split. I still really think a reality show is her best bet, the Kardashians have done well out of it, I think they are a bunch of idiots but they are really rich idiots who for some reason get lot's of attention it is also what launched Paris although her last couple tanked big time. Acting I don't see unless it is some show really struggling and sees her as a good PR move or just a really bad show where her lack of acting skills doesn't matter. I noticed too that her accent was mentioned and that she was working on it I hope she is working on her acting skills as well. Taking some acting classes will make her at least look like she is serious about it. We will have to wait and see what she does. I also won't be surprised if she shows up on another red carpet with another celebrity either!

I'm hoping the whole famous for ??????? nothing is started a downward spiral, sick to death of the Hiltons, Kardashians,Snookies,Housewives of, and all the other trash on TV, IF that's the route Betta's taking I don't give it long. For her sake I hope it's something better and she doesn't blow it again, her chances are running out of options, she needs something the public can view as a success here in the US or in Italy.

Lucy you hit the nail on the head. How anyone can watch the Kardashians is beyond me. I tried one time and there was one of them having a brazillian wax while the other and all of America was watching. Now I noticed in some of the magazines they are selling weight loss supplements these are dangerous especially to the younger fans who watch them. I recently was flipping through a magazine where they referred to Kim as a socialite,please this girl will sell her soul.

I can't afford to lose any IQ points so I don't watch them. One of them took an Xray of her butt to show it wasn't enhanced. Simply proved to me once and for all they will do anything for attention. Getting married is also a big favourite I believe another wedding is on the cards. The show really should go away soon. Who watches it anyway? And Jersey Shore I don't get that either it seems to be such a bad advert for Italian/Americans and Jersey Shore. I can't believe how much money these idiots are making out of behaving like louts and tarts! I do think it is something Eli would look at simply because it requires no acting and no learning lines and you get attention. Win for her and a win for us!
