November 2014 Chit Chat
Happy First Day of November. Break out the Christmas Cookie recipes. Start looking for Christmas gift sales. Light the fire in the fireplace.
And, remember to play nice.. Santa is watching!

Joanna - Show-off! I haven't even started. But there's a tv channel here that started showing Christmas movies on Halloween! Yikes! Talk about jumping the gun - we haven't even eaten our Thanksgiving turkey yet.

Just curious, but is the US the only place where people dress up in costumes and go trick-or-treating on Halloween? It's so much fun I can't imagine no one else does it.

In the UK we do too. This weekend has been full of weird-looking people on the streets. I hope they're Halloween casualties although it's hard to be sure. Perhaps onesies for men are indeed in fashion?

I don't know about onesies (God forbid!) but I did see something about a guy who designed a one-piece suit, complete with tie and jacket all attached, to make it easier for men to dress in the morning. Sigh! Their lives are just sooo hard, poor babies. So many difficult tasks to master - buttons and zippers and tucking in shirts. They should try being a girl for one day.

Zipper in front. One pair is baby blue with an image of a bassett hound that reads "I'm lonely". Thinking about it, maybe the jammies in and of itself is the reason!! LOLLizzyNY wrote: PigPen - Do they have a trap door, too?

Re: November 2014 Chit Chat
Just read the People's Choice nominees and noticed Taylor Swift there.
Has anyone heard her new CD? I got it yesterday and I have to say there is some really, really good music and some clever lyrics.
I've been replaying two songs over and over on my drive to and from work:
Blank Space ((I could only find a version with Spanish subtitles) and I Wish You Would (which I couldn't find at all - I think youtube deleted any postings of the actual song due to copyright)

Robert Downey jr is a Dad again.....
This is his quirky announcement of the birth of
his second child on his official FB.
"After 9 months of intensive development, Team Downey is pleased to announce our 2014 fall/winter project.
Principal photography commenced 11-14 and will continue until she says, "Dad! You are embarrassing me...I'm 30, this has gotta stop."
Yep...Avri Roel Downey joined the party @ 3:22 a.m. on November 4th...she's 7lbs even, spans 20 inches, and is accompanied by a variety of Susan's traits that have seemingly overwritten my "junk DNA."
I'll post pics here + there when I'm not too busy staring..."

George's wedding has made me discover Lana Del Rey. Just bought her first CD. Thank you to who it was that posted a couple of her videos on another thread ( when we thought maybee she be singing at the wedding). Love Video Games and Summertime Sadness.
I always thought that onsies were for babies or adults who want to pretend they are babies and wear diapers as a (sexual) fetisch.

Re: November 2014 Chit Chat
So what films are everyone looking forward to - given that this is the time period studios release the films they think will either be big holiday films or award contenders...
My list includes:
Into the Woods
There seem to be quite a few stars in this film including Merle Streep. I heard a lot about the Broadway play but never saw it so this should be interesting. I wonder if Merle will do her own singing?
Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 (even though I think they should have just made one and not two films out of the last book)
I'm also looking forward to Beyond the Lights which stars the same gal who played the lead in Belle (which I just saw a few weeks ago on DVD and totally loved!)
Imitation Game is also one that seems interesting. It stars Kiera Knightly and Benedict Cumberbatch who play code breakers during the war.
Kingsmen: The Secret Service doesn't come out until February but I've been waiting for this film since I saw the first trailers months ago! Just about anything with Colin Firth (except that damn Abba songs movie - cause I just wanna puke when I hear Abba music) I will go see!
And I see there's a Taken 3 coming out early next year too (Jan). I don't know Taken 2 wasn't so good so I wonder how a third one could ever been any better than the first! But I'll still probably go see it as it stars Liam!
Kenneth Branagh is directing a new live action Cinderella with Cate Blanchett. I'll definitely go see that film! But it' comes out Friday March 13th in the US. I think I'll wait till the weekend to go see that.
And then on March 20th the next installment in the Divergent series of films (based on the books) will open.
That's about it for me so far.
I did see Interstellar and absolutely LOVED it and I'm not such a big Mr. All Right, All Right, All Right fan so that's saying a LOT! Ha!

Re: November 2014 Chit Chat
Directed by Angelina. Releasing at Christmas. Mr. Zamperini just passed away.
In boyhood, Louis Zamperini was an incorrigible delinquent. As a teenager, he channeled his defiance into running, discovering a prodigious talent that had carried him to the Berlin Olympics. But when World War II began, the athlete became an airman, embarking on a journey that led to a doomed flight on a May afternoon in 1943. When his Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean, against all odds, Zamperini survived, adrift on a foundering life raft. Ahead of Zamperini lay thousands of miles of open ocean, leaping sharks, thirst and starvation, enemy aircraft, and, beyond, a trial even greater. Driven to the limits of endurance, Zamperini would answer desperation with ingenuity; suffering with hope, resolve, and humor; brutality with rebellion. His fate, whether triumph or tragedy, would be suspended on the fraying wire of his will.
Appearing in paperback for the first time—with twenty arresting new photos and an extensive Q&A with the author—Unbroken is an unforgettable testament to the resilience of the human mind, body, and spirit, brought vividly to life by Seabiscuit author Laura Hillenbrand.

Oh thanks. I did hear about him recently, he was going to be this year's Rose Parade Grand Marshall and passed away. I read his family is going to represent him.
I'll have to check that one out - sounds like a fascinating story! Thanks for the info on the film.

Didn't read the book really no interest and frankly from the trailers I've seen it seems it will be more cringe-worthy than "sexy."
Of course that just may be my perception since I think people into S&M have mental issues.

Re: November 2014 Chit Chat
I read all three of the 50 Shades books and personally didn't even like the idea that a movie was going to be made from this series. Ugh. There are some books that just shouldn't transition into movies and this is one of them. No way can they replicate the sexual dynamics of the story onto the screen even with an R rating.
I will probably see Interstellar even tho not a big MM fan nor a sci fi fan. Got to see what the buzz is all about.
Want to see Nightcrawler with Jake Gylenhall and possibly St. Vincent just to see Bill Murray. And The Theory of Everything.
Just read an interesting article today announcing that Matt Damon has been signed to play in the next Alexander Payne movie "Downsizing".
The article says this a major coup - this collaboration and the article went on to claim that Damon is bound to get an Oscar nomination from it. Payne's movies tend to garner nominations for his actors in the past, including George so 2016 may be Matt's year to win. Pretty audacious prediction. Payne is claiming his screenplay which he has been working on for years as "his epic masterpiece".

Also now really interested to see Imitation Game. Matthew Goode and Allan Leech were on a talk show this morning talking about the film. Matthew currently has a role in "The Good Wife" which I love. Allan is on Downton Abbey (the Irish guy). With Kiera and Cumberbatch also in the film it looks like a great cast and really intriguing WWII story.

As much as George likes to drink and has even said that's one of the reasons he likes the Golden Globes because you can drink your way through the show, he has never embarrassed himself by doing something like what Depp did. Thank God!
That was pretty awful and how embarrassing for him.
