Re: November 2017 Chit Chat
Sadly, most of the people killed were tourists from South America and Europe. They haven't released any information about the injured except to give updates on their medical conditions. As awful as this attack was it only affected a very small area in Manhattan and didn't really impact the rest of the city (except traffic).
The Halloween Parade went on as scheduled with around 1 million people involved - many saying they were there because of the attack. This city doesn't scare easy!

It was an awful tradegy yesterday. But the NYPD did a great job of getting a handle on the situation right away. Kudos to the young officer who was able to stop the guy by shooting him but not killing him! I love that the Halloween parade went on as scheduled. Can’t keep tough New Yorkers down.

Re: November 2017 Chit Chat
Hello friends.....it's very quiet here on COH lately.
Shall we chat about Christmas ? Or is it too early as were not yet into December ? LOL.
I've done quite a bit of pressie shopping....online.
I enjoy buying for my step grand daughters as I never had any little ones to buy for so it's a real treat now.
I check with my daughter in law if what I want to get is suitable first.
Right.....must get back to a childs clothes web site to see if there are any bargains to be had !
Bye for now.... Have a good Tuesday evening.

Re: November 2017 Chit Chat
Ho ho ho Joanna! Don’t think it’s too early to talk Christmas. The stores are all decorated where I live and I even saw Santa today at the mall.
But as usual you’re way ahead of me. I have no Christmas gifts yet. Not even a list. As I remember buying my young kids gifts was always the most fun. Loved shopping for toys, books and cute little outfits. It’s not as easy or as much fun now that they’re grown.

Re: November 2017 Chit Chat
In Germany, we don't start decorating our homes and stores until the Sunday we remember the deceased, which will be next Sunday. Although supermarkets offer special sweets and cakes from September on which is always quite shocking. Because it's still very warm, gives you a sort of summer feeling, and then you see this christmas stuff. I always boycott these sweets and refuse to buy them before Advent season starts, but I guess there are many who buy them that early- including my husband who's always happy when his favourite sweets are available...
But haven't bought any presents yet and don't have a list either.

Re: November 2017 Chit Chat
Carolhathaway I remember when we didn’t even put up a tree until just a a few days before Christmas. I don’t know if it’s still a tradition in some families to wait until Christmas Eve to decorate the tree. The church across the street from where I live just got their shipment of trees this morning. I’m just not ready for this.
... And on that note I’d like to wish everyone who celebrates a very Happy Thanksgiving day tomorrow with your family and friends.

Just wanted to second Donnamarie's good wishes for a HAPPY TURKEY DAY !!! To all who celebrate, have a happy and safe holiday.
Just curious. I know Canada celebrates their Thanksgiving Day in October. Does anyone else have a similar holiday? I hope so. It's really fun!

Re: November 2017 Chit Chat
In Germany we celebrate Thanksgiving at the beginning of October as well - but usually without a turkey.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
Donna,
we don't set up our christmas tree until just before christmas. A farmer in our village sells them, so there's always a party at his farm during the weekend of the sale.q
