Good grief, you need eyes in the back of your head!!! Went to have a shower, came out and discovered my 8,6 and 4 year old watching a music video show on TV that was currently playing Wrecking Ball - heard my son saying as I came into the lounge that he could see Hanna Montanas boobies, this was on the kids channel at 10.30am in the morning!!!

Whats funny is the lengths I go to so that I can ensure they don't see adult content then they play it on a kids channel. He asked me what happened to her, I told him she grew up but has a lot of growing up still to do....

Re: November Chit Chat
7 weeks till Christmas What the Heck - I was going to be so organised this year, but haven't finished writing my list to Santa and then the kids have to send their letters, then I have to unseal said envelopes and go get whats on their list (within reason) - aaaggh only 7 weeks.
Well both my kids are getting a new Ipad for Christmas since there school told us last week they have to have one, its compulsory - they may even get new uniforms for Christmas and I might pay their school fees too. And you know what really burns I have wanted an Ipad all year but put it off to spend the money more wisely, now my 6 year old will get an Ipad before Mummy - something not right there!!! Rant over sorry guys
Now back to writing my list to Santa...
Katie I had a dog that snored, she lived for 13 years so don't think its anything to worry about.

Ye gods, Themi! What if you can't afford these things? Does someone important at the school have Apple shares by any chance?!
Would love to think that all these children were brilliant at handwriting(I'm sure yours are!) but sadly teaching literacy has taught me that most of them are not..........

Good question. Those things are expensive. How can a school make that compulsory?
Well good old times when I was looking for a fountain pen (hope right translation) and when it cost 15 Euros I knew I got an expensive one. But what is this amount compare to today LOL
And don't get me started about todays handwriting.

Re: November Chit Chat
I don't mind mine having access to iPads etc but I do mind been given only one months notice that I have to outlay minimum 1000 to 1500 for 2 iPads at Christmas. Bring on technology but I do worry that some things will rapidly be lost forgotten or disappear in their school, such as being able to write properly is a must so i taught mine before they started school, the wonder if a new book, turning the pages etc will now be replaced by touching an app. Government schooling is supposed to be free but not really when their are fees, compulsory uniforms and now electronic equipment all to be paid for by December. When I enrolled kids was told they would have access to the very latest and newest being a newly built school, nowhere in their 50 page intro did it state that less than 2 years I'd have to outlay a lit if cash. Other schools offer higher levies or leasing options, mine doesn't, only option is to outlay the money or finance it, ridiculous. If given notice I would have budgeted, and I have to comply as I don't want mine to be sitting there without an iPad.

dunno about your school rules

sadly
only a few schools are equipped with a whole wifi connection
only brave managers were able to
but we are very far from tablets for all
let alone iPads!

You know, Theminis, I think if this was me, I'd be having a not-so-quiet word with somebody (out of earshot of the children of course) in authority, and getting support from other parents.
Understand completely that you don't want your little ones to 'stand out', and the cynic in me would say that's what the school's gambling on, but I'm really surprised that the school's PTA and/or school finance committee has either signed off on this or not put up any protest.
The implications for you are fun - lost chargers, leads and higher electricity bills aside!
Is this a nationwide thing, I wonder?

Re: November Chit Chat
Well not familiar with your school systems, but here kids get laptops / ipads at École secondaire. Homeworks are online, basically everything. Very little handwriting. When I went to school we had books, now they have "modules" that are online. Maybe something from the books too. It has changed dramatically over a very short period of time. Hard to monitor as a parent.
And if something gets broken or lost you as a parent are responsible and pay.

Help me find it. Thanks, if you remember it. It looks like he is inside the plane getting on or leaving the plane when these attendants asked for a quick photo.

Re: November Chit Chat
PAN - etc
IF I buy through the school supplier I pay up to 300 more per Ipad which covers screen breakage, replacement and software support. However my contents insurer can insure for much less, so financially I am better off not buying through the school supplier. But they kind of have you over a barrell, the school supplier told me that we would miss out on vital software updates, the school said this is not the case - a lot of angry parents out there. A friend of mine has to provide 4 for next year as her 2 highschool children need Leveno tablets (ipad not acceptable). So yes I am buying Ipads only to have to change in 3 years to a Leveno. Aaaaggh it does my head in. Im calling over Government Education Department today to see if there is anything to be done - that doesn't break a lot of peoples piggies banks at Christmas time.

Good for you Theminis! Sounds as if it might be a nationwide thing then maybe? Nice of them to give you a bit of advanced warning, (aside from all the ethical principles I foresee in this i.e those without jobs get help etc). Anything to do with the new government?
Seems to me someone's out there to make more than a few bob - to put it mildly

Theminis....see if anyone has created a campaign online about the tablet issue ?
If not start one. Go to your local newspaper and call in radio station.
Nothing ventured nothing gained.
And triple check your insurer's cover too.....you know what they're like for not paying out !!
Small print syndrome etc. and get it in writing too.

Re: November Chit Chat
Hi Joanna
Yep some parents are already campaigning to get the compulsory purchase of the ipads aborted, but they are beating their heads against the wall - Education Department supports the idea - however I imagine that if a great percentage of parents told the school they would not be purchasing them then perhaps a more flexible payment arrangement will be put in place - people are not just objecting to the technology but the price which is fully funded by parents and not enough notice given.
Its Me - yep I have been lucky on this one race a year - hopefully today too Mumma needs to buy IPADS and shoes (for me)

Just a thought, Themi. If the Education Department (is that the National one?) 'support' this, perhaps they'd like to help pay for them. Be interesting to see the true level of their support, wouldn't it?
And if this is a local decision, would an appointment with the Head Teacher help - or even taking it to National departments.............or local tv?
Shoes first, Themi, shoes first
