George Clooney's Cabo home featured in Architectural Digest

Yay, i can't wait for this issue - but the article will definitely focus mostly on design. Still, can't wait to see their house.

Simple - most subscribers to AD are high end earners. People who can afford the finer things (or those who aspire to it) so featuring the home brings them a lot of advertising to those higher end potential customers.

The two pals live right next door to each other in Los Cabos on the Baja peninsula and Gerber, who is married to Cindy Crawford, tells the publication he and Clooney have been vacationing there for 20 years.

In fact, the two friends used to hang out at the beach long before their holiday homes we built.

He says, "We saw this oceanfront lot and thought maybe it would make sense to build something."

Crawford adds, "Once we had kids, we would go on vacation at Christmas, but you'd have to book hotels a year in advance, and then you'd get there and they never quite lived up to expectations."

The trio initially dreamed up the idea of building one big compound, but came to the conclusion it would be better to have their own pads.

Gerber explains, "It's just nice at the end of the night to have your own place to go back to."

The sprawling homes feature airy, outdoor dining areas, sparkling pools, terraces, a home theatre and beautiful bedrooms all with views of the ocean.

Clooney tells Architecture Digest he allowed his friend to lead the design of the two places because he trusts Gerber's taste, adding, "Rande has this amazing eye for houses and style."

I wonder if they're filled with Cindy Crawford furniture? hahaha. I'll bet Casamigos Tequila is featured prominently.

I am really anxious to see the houses up close and personal.

Well, there was an interview when Rande was asked about the differences between his Malibu home and the Cabo villa - he said the Cabo place is really different and mentioned the architect who designed their pads - it's someone renowned in his field, i think a foreigner - and that he thinks it was the last project this person did.

So that explains why it's being featured in AD. My only question is how they're gonna feature BOTH houses in one article...might not be many pics of each house.

Was Philippe Starck the interior designer? Don't know who the architect was.
Would be interesting to get the article.

Could be wrong, but I think the architect was a highly regarded Mexican who has since died............

It wasn't Philippe Starck - that i would have remembered. It could be the person party animal mentioned. We'll know once the issue comes out, but if they only just opened their home for AD, it could be another 2 months before the issue comes out - hope not.

Philippe starck? All modern, plastic? Kind of like IKEA but 1000 times more expensive?

The November issue of Architectural Digest really gives the one-two punch as far as celebrity coverage goes: it combines George Clooney's and Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber's neighboring villas in Los Cabos, Mexico, into a single cover story. The movie star and the supermodel (turned furniture designer and landlady!) are both good-looking and successful, of course, and they're also the best of friends, choosing to share architect Ricardo Legorreta for these vacation homes, which were "designed and built in tandem, and Clooney happily allowed Gerber and Crawford to take the lead on the project, knowing he could trust their taste implicitly."

While the trio at one point actually considered building one large dwelling where they could all hang around and drink Gerber Spirits tequila, this pair of cement-and-wood houses—not the "hacienda-style villa commonly found along this coast" but rather "muscular geometric volumes" centered around a courtyard, much in the tradition of Luis Barragán, Legorreta's mentor—"are basically used as a single home, with overflow from one accommodated by the other, and meals and other activities frequently split between the two." Clooney, who's never been shy about talking design, summarizes: "I wanted something that would blend in, something indigenous that would feel in harmony with the setting."

It's beautiful very airy and open goes with the setting of Cabo. quietly elegant. Not my style I am more Victorian style and cluttered. Most likely because you never seem to have enough room for everything that I think is needed.

If I had that kind of space who knows, just would need some more fabric to warm things up a bit. You can see I'm not modern.

Spectacular views....sigh....
Imagine laying there, looking into horizon, breathing in the ocean breeze.  
Music, cocktails, ...

Nice beach resort style decor. Minimalist & modern. Very spacious with green tropical plants.  
Really like the cascading wicker basket lighting, both internally & on courtyard.

Most of all, I love the white sandy beach, blue ocean & palm trees.
No tsunamis in Cabo, thankfully.

Beautiful - you can see his pool which sits just outside the lounge area - I would love that room, love the style and colours, just what I like.
