Oscars 2013: 'Argo' wins Best Picture

The winners were announced at a live ceremony that took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and aired live on ABC on Sunday, February 24. "Argo" beat "Django Unchained," "Life of Pi," "Lincoln," "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Silver Linings Playbook," "Les Miserables," "Amour" and fellow Islamic terrorism-themed film "Zero Dark Thirty."

Affleck thanked his parents, his brother, the film's real-life protaganist Tony Mendez, wife and actress Jennifer Garner in his acceptance speech.

"I thank everyone in the movie, on the movie, worked on the movie, did anything with this movie gets thanks. I want to thank Canada, I want to thank our friends in Iran, living in a terrible circumstances right now, I want to thank my wife, who I don't normally associate with Iran," he said. "I want to thank you for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It's good. It is work but it's the best kind of work and there's no one I'd rather work with."

Affleck did not receive an individual nod for directing "Argo," which earned seven nominations and won two other awards -- Best Adapted Screenplay and Film Editing.

"I was here 15 years ago or something and I had no idea what I was doing, sit out here in front of you all, really just a kid," Affleck said at Sunday's Oscar ceremony. "And I went out and I never thought that I would be back here and I am because of so many of you who are here tonight."

"It doesn't matter how you get knocked down in life, because that's going to happen," Affleck said at the Oscars on Sunday. "All that matters is that you gotta get up."

When you get knocked down you get back up.... Or just know George Clooney.

George Clooney: I want Oscars tiara

George Clooney has joked he’d rather get a tiara than an Oscar.

The actor has been nicknamed the ‘King of Oscars’ thanks to his eight nominations across six different categories throughout his career.

Last night Argo - which he helped produce - picked up the best picture gong at the Academy Awards, but the 51-year-old quipped he would rather be taking home something pretty.

"[My publicist] is the one spreading the rumours [that I’m King of the Oscars]," he laughed to Entertainment Tonight.

"Unless I get a tiara and some form of a sash, I'm not happy."

Last night’s honour is the star’s second Oscar, having won the prize for best supporting actor for his part in Syriana in 2006.

George explained why he felt inspired to take on some behind-the-scenes work on Argo - which was directed by Ben Affleck - rather than a lead role.

"If you're an actor, you know that you have a time limit that you're allowed to actually do this on screen, so all you're really trying to do is do other jobs so you have things to do," he admitted.

"If you can succeed in that, it's nice."
