What would you think if George Clooney really got married to Stacy?

Inspired by the blind item and psychic on this thread here, both suggesting that George will ask Stacy to marry him by the end of this year, I wondered what my reaction would be to the news.

Not that I think in a million years they would get married, or even engaged, but the idea's there.

So, what would be the first things that would run through your mind if you woke up one day in December to find out that he had popped the question?

Good question. First thing that would pop up into my mind would be that he's totally lost his mind. Then I'd hope for his sake he has an ironclad prenup. Whatever, if that was what he wanted I'd just wish for his happiness.

Asking a escort rapidly contracted to marry and to whom, so far, he has never shown any sign of real affection?

I would think that he is gay ....

Then I had a moment of angst wondering what the hell am I doing even running a forum for someone as duplicitous as that and then realised it's way past my bedtime and I'm getting silly.

I've followed George for nearly 20 years now and really admire him as a creative person and as a human being.

If he wants to get married, which he's always said he doesn't and I believe him not the gossips, then I'd wish him all the very best for a happy future, just as I'd wish any one taking that step.

I'd still follow him for the reasons I've stated above....sorry to be boring folks

I would be disappointed as I thought he was a safe fantasy. I have trouble fantasizing about someone who is in a committed relationship ....I know I am weird----otherwise I would be on the Hugh Jackman forum...

You are right Jo, he is a wonderful human being and I love his charity work but like Silly Girl, I wouldn't fantasize over a married man.

I would wish him the best and hope to see more of his wonderful work.

He was definitely HOT when he was young but not so much anymore...he's looking too greasy and puffy in the face and he doesn't have a good body either. I don't think he's aged well at all.

For me it's not the age difference but the fact that he's not with someone he appears to love. I'm sure they get along fine and the relationship is making them both reasonably happy, but as far as I can see, this isn't love. So, no reason to marry.

That's it exactly. I don't care if a woman is 25 or 65 or somewhere in between, if it looked like he was madly in love with her, I'd wish him well. If he married one of these women who wouldn't give him the time of day if he wasn't a movie star, who he doesn't always appear to even like, that would absolutely make me think he was gay.

Katie you are right Stacy seems to me a maid of honor when George also female guests but when he invites his friends no longer want, and he prefers to go on only with male friends!I find it strange even their holidays, George Stacy takes two days in Venice and then leaves her with a tour guide, he left for Corsica and she goes to Greece in the one time of year that George was free from commitments! !!!

I believe that a real relationship can take not being together 24/7.

A knew a young couple who got married and then she went on the booked honeymoon with her best friend while he had to go back to police training college, because they knew his planned career was more important than a week away together. The call for him to train came well after the wedding date was set.
It did them no harm long term.


It's not always a good idea to marry someone when you are at the
" Madly in Love" stage" anyway IMO.
Best to wait a while to find out if you actually like each other as well !

I understand that, Joanna. I do think there's a difference between having to spend a week apart one time, and ongoing separations for varying lengths of time, which is what George and Stacy (or George and anyone) would face. I think a big part of building relationships is just the hanging around on the couch talking about nonsense time, and when you aren't getting that regularly, it does some damage.

By "madly in love" I didn't mean to imply that people should marry during that first "everything she/he does is AMAZING" period. I would say a couple like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson qualify as madly in love, and they've been together 25 years. What I meant was that there never appeared to be a "madly in love" period with George and Stacy at all. It's not like they've just gotten comfortable with each other and settled in to the more "friendship" stage of a romantic relationship. It's just always looked like friendship to me, and nothing more.

George has said in the past that he doesn't have what it takes to make a marriage work. If it was true in the past, I'm sure at his age he's not going to change. He hasn't wanted to put in the time and effort then and I'm sure his thinking hasn't changed recently. His friend Salma Hayek put it very blantantly when she spoke about him at his Lifetime Achievement award. She said george makes a wonderful friend but, "ladies give it up he wouldn't make a good boyfriend."

They are clearly really good friends, and that's obviously how it all started, and I don't think the holding hands, arms round each other, and looking into each other's eyes means nothing!

Friendship to begin with is a really good thing, and having common interests is a must. The 'Love is Blind' thing not so great, in my view.......
