Thanks Playfuldeb for ending January chit chat with a laugh and description of flu symptoms and obviously my mind was in the gutter. Because to me the comparisons are oh so similar. LOL

Hang onto your hats, girls!
West Virginia farm kid in the US Marines (now at San Diego Marine Corps Recruit Training) ......
Dear Ma and Pa,
I am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Marine Corps beats working for old man Minch by a mile. Tell them to join up quick before all of the places are filled.
I was restless at first, because you get to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. But I am getting so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot, and shine some things. No hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically nothing.
All men got to shave but, .. it is not so bad, there's warm water.
Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee. Their food, plus yours, holds you until noon when you get fed again. It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much.
We go on 'route marches,' which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it's not my place to tell him different. A 'route march' is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks.
The sergeant is like a school teacher. He nags a lot. The Captain is like the school board. Majors and colonels just ride around and frown. They don't bother you none.
This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I don't know why. The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don't move, and it ain't shooting at you like the Higgett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. You don't even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes.
Then we have what they call hand-to-hand combat training. You get to wrestle with them city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break real easy. It ain't like fighting with that ole bull at home. I'm about the best they got in this except for that Tug Jordan from over in Silver Lake. I only beat him once. He joined up the same time as me, but I'm only 5'6' and 130 pounds and he's 6'8' and near 300 pounds dry.
Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in.
Your loving daughter,
Alice

-----Have you seen this one?
Pregnant lady on the bus
A lady about 8 months pregnant got on a bus.
She noticed the man opposite her was smiling at her.
She immediately moved to another seat. This time the smile turned into a grin, so she moved again.
The man seemed more amused.
When on the fourth move, the man burst out laughing,
She complained to the driver and he had the man arrested.
When the case came up in court, the judge asked the man (about 20 years old) what he had to say for himself.
The man replied, 'Well your Honor, it was like this:
When the lady got on the bus, I couldn't help but notice her condition.
She sat down under a sign that said, 'The Double Mint Twins are coming' and I grinned.
Then she moved and sat under a sign that said, 'Logan's Liniment will reduce the swelling,' and I had to smile.
Then she placed herself under a deodorant sign that said,
'William's Big Stick Did the Trick,' and I could hardly contain myself.
But, Your Honor, when she moved the fourth time And sat under a sign that said, 'Goodyear Rubber could have prevented this Accident!'
... I just lost it.'
'CASE DISMISSED!!'

Re: General chit chat for February
Hi all!
I've got something to say and since it is a trend I've been seeing on a great many threads here lately, I thought I'd spout off here.
It seems to me that some posters on COH don't have any love for the main topic of this forum, George Clooney. No matter how a thread starts, i.e. the Person to Person upcoming show, before long the claws come out and there is nothing but digs, and rather hateful remarks.
I don't thing there is anyone who is perfect, however, can anyone tell me where in George's public life (which is all we all really have any knowledge of), is there anything that is indicitative of the malicious remarks that are made by those who "claim" to be his fans. His desire to have a "private" life is very well achieved. His public life is achieved by publicity and public attention. There is no "star" around who does not thrive without it, doing interviews, going on talk shows, appearing in public with or without a female along. Yes, awards season is usually the time for this to happen. Yes, for a number of years, George chose not to "campaign" but has evidentally changed his mind. Does this make him a liar? I personally don't think so! So, he chooses to do the awards circuit. He has been nominated over and over again. He has 2 movies on the awards docket. He has admitted that his name gets the money to do some of those movies he loves to make. It's important to him to get this money for his movies, their casts and crews. His dedication to his work should make his fans proud, but some of them constantly malign him. I don't understand it, I really don't. Much has been said about his stand on women in movies and the lack of roles for "older" women. There is talk about his being hypocritical in his stance. It's said he doesn't practice what he preaches, well who knows whether he does or doesn't. How does anyone know who George helps or doesn't help? Does anyone think that he would publically announce "I gave "so & so" a role in "*****" or I got "so & so" a part in "*****", well, do you?
Well, I've said my peace, and please remember this is my own opinion and while I'm being a bit critical, I'm not out to offend anyone on this forum.

Phew pattyigrl..... What a relief to read your words which IMO are
so eloquently written. Thanks for voicing how I feel sometimes when reading some posts on this forum. And while I accept that everyone is entitled to their opinions, sometimes I'm amazed at the negativity that comes across.
I am proud of George as an actor/director/writer and never feel short changed when I see his films and from what I've seen of him as a person, he comes across OK to me !
Funnily enough, after seeing The Descendants the other day my husband and I were discussing it. He quite voluntarily said that he enjoyed Clooney's films as they always had integrity.
And that's coming from a man who doesn't suffer fools, liars
or cheats.

Pattygirl.
So it was a rainy day and we took a little road trip up to KY today to get out of the house. Stopped by a Harley shop in London, KY and bought a couple of tshirts. Tried to get Hubby to go on up to Augusta/Maysville area to say HI to Nick and Nina but he just looked at me like I had suffered a blow to the head.

Re: General chit chat for February
Have decided to post the rest of my thoughts about plastic surgery in Hollywood here.
I live near Los Angeles and a few times I've taken a ride to Beverly Hills and walked along the malls there and every time I do at first I get intimidated.
I mean the "norm" there is emaciated bodies. I mean if you're bigger than a size 2 you look like some gargantuan!
But after a while I notice that many of the women look as if they were cut from the same mold. They are often very thin and have very long and very obviously dyed blond hair.
What also strikes me are the women with very thin lips who have spent too much time getting them "plumped" -- it is the most unattractive thing I've ever seen. It's like something out of a nightmare as if they used a cookie cutter that was supposed to be for those Halloween wax lips and not for normal people!
What is interesting is that there are so many women who look like this that if you live there I guess after a while this looks like the "norm" but in fact for people who don't live there it's quite shocking to see!
An example of this I recently saw on a promo for one of those Housewives of whatever town you're watching. I think it was Beverly Hills (no I never watch these type of shows) but I looked at a couple of these women and asked myself, "Don't these women realize how freakish they look?" That designer Versace is another example! Does she keep doing this or was it a one time thing that went horribly wrong?
Here's a link to a picture of her!

It's sad that they feel so insecure that they have the need to alter their bodies in such a radical and unnatural (and frankly quite unflattering) way!

You're right, it's so sad. Then there is the lady who had massive plastic surgery to look like a cat lady, no not cat lady but a CAT - and there is Barbie Doll lady who had so much surgery to look like Barbie Doll. No, I don't mean Stacy. LOL

I have a question... How do we stop this and get others to back us? I do not think overindulgence is healthy for women. Not that I'm against a little botox, if necessary, but to harm yourself is out of the question! And, why can't we be natural and age like the men? Do they think we are not beautiful? I know, inside, I am beautiful! JMHO
I love you ladies!

Hope this doesn't sound sarcastic, but men have a distinct advantage over women as far as facial aging. They can grow a beard, mustache and dye their beard and mustache. And a beard can hide a double chin as well as any other disgusting feature.Cinderella wrote:And, why can't we be natural and age like the men?

And our mustaches and chin hairs need to be plucked cuz' we certainly can't HIDE anything with that stray chin whisker or the "shadow" above our upper lips!!!

Well, that wasn't exactly where I was going mel but that's a good point! How depressing. LOL
IMO George could use a little lip plumping. Like most men his upper lip seems to be disappearing, but that just adds to his looks. The whole package is fine to me.
