Barack Obama continues to enjoy his leisurely time out of office as he was photographed on Sunday hanging with George Clooney on a boat near his mansion in scenic northern Italy.
The former leader of the free world and Clooney looked to be headed to some formal event as they were wearing suits without ties.
They were likely on their way to a charity dinner for The Clooney Foundation for Justice, Hollywood Life reported.
The foundation, founded by the Clooneys, is devoted to marginalized communities who have fallen victim to human rights abuses.

The former president and his friend made sure to help the former first lady off the boat
George Clooney was seen walking along a red and blue bridge from the dock to the land. He wore a light gray suit.

Obama was a few feet ahead of him. He wore a dark gray suit and a light blue shirt.
Their wives were also in the boat with them, though they were not seen until it docked on the pier.
George Clooney was a gracious host, helping his wife, Amal; the former first lady, Michelle; and the Obamas' daughter, Malia, off the boat. 


The 57-year-old former president; his wife, Michelle, 55; and their two daughters, Sasha, 18, and Malia, 20, are in Lake Como visiting the former ER heartthrob, 58, and his glamorous wife, Amal Clooney, 41, at their Villa Oleandra in Laglio.
During Obama's eight years in office, Clooney was one of his most ardent supporters.

The former first family is in town until Monday.
Their European vacation began last week when they landed in France and spent time on the French Riviera with good friends Bono and The Edge.
The foursome traveled to Avignon by private jet, just days after Sasha graduated from high school in front of her proud parents and her older sibling.
From France, the Obamas flew via private jet to Italy, where they stopped in Milan. 
The governor of Laglio has decreed that fines of 500 euros ($565) will be in place for any vessel or vehicle approaching within 300ft of the Villa Oleandra, which is usually accessible to the public unlike typical A-list properties.
The Obamas took their private jet to Milan from Provence where they are believed to have been staying at a $60,000-a-week villa in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine region.

The Obama family continued their luxurious European vacation over the weekend, spending time in Italy with two special friends: George and Amal Clooney!
On Sunday, the men were spotted arriving by boat near a dock on Lake Como in Cernobbio — near where the Clooneys have a home.
According to Italian news reports, former President Barack Obama. 57. and former First Lady Michelle Obama, 55, were spotted out with the actor, 58, and his international human rights lawyer wife, 41, on Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Obama have been on vacation with former first daughters Sasha Obama, 18, and Malia Obama, 20.

Their trip started in the South of France last Friday, days after Sasha’s high school graduation, where they were spotted in Provence — hiking, dining out and absorbing the area’s rich culture, sources previously told PEOPLE.
While the Obamas’ office declined to discuss their plans, citing their status as private citizens, the four were closely tracked by local media and the tabloid press. They even visited another famous friend: Bono, stopping by his estate in Èze.

Life has changed for the former first family since leaving 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in 2017.


Both of the girls are now out of high school, and their parents are keeping busy. “I’ve got an initiative, I’ve got a book, I’ve got a husband I can see again,” Mrs. Obama told PEOPLE in November.
“I feel good about it,” she added of becoming an empty-nester.
The former commander-in-chief, on the other hand, is getting a chance to relax. (He is also working on a forthcoming memoir.)
David Axelrod, chief strategist for the Obama campaign and close friend to the 44th president, told PEOPLE in 2017 that Obama “no longer has that mortal power in his hands or the grave responsibilities. And for a guy who took those very seriously, that’s a liberating thing.”

Any ideas where the charity dinner was held or who else might have attended?

I feel like this was a private dinner....I don't think this is a charity thing. I think that there's some misinformation out there that this weekend had something to do with the foundation. To me, it looks like the media just incorrectly assumed it had something to do with that. But there isn't really anything that indicates it is. I think the Obamas are just spending the weekend visiting George & Amal at the villa and relaxing. The other people in the boats are members of the Obama's extended family. Like President Obama's sister Maya, brother-in-law Konrad, his niece, and others. I think I recognize Michelle Obama's brother Craig there too. They've all just been on a family vacation the last few weeks. And ain't nothing wrong with that. They all must be staying at George's house on the lake. Must be fun. And George takes a lot of his guests to Villa D'Este for dinners. It's just George entertaining and being a good host to friends.

I don't think there was a charity dinner either just them having a long weekend with friends.

Great find, Kat. I think you could be right - or maybe they're getting together in some way with the Obama Foundation. This is them crossing the foyer after dinner to go back across the terrace to BOAT.

I think they probably had dinner in a private dining room upstairs (I can definitely see security insisting on that!)  I guess they may have had other people upstairs who would have left separately (maybe by car). And of course we don't know who else might have visited l'Oleandra

I have a feeling Kat19 is right. This was probably just a personal visit - although they could easily have discussed their foundations. The media may have confused the visit with the Omaze contest  - or maybe they think the Obamas were the winners!

And they've left!.....

Hollywood and Washington D.C. are colliding this travel season.

As former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obamacontinued their European vacation over the weekend, the couple was able to spend some time with a few familiar faces.

Lo and behold, George Clooney and Amal Clooney happily helped give the couple one very special weekend.

E! News has learned the Obamas arrived Saturday where they had a dinner at George's place where food was prepared by several Italian chefs.

On Sunday, there was time to enjoy the pool, lunch in the garden and dinner at Villa D'Este, which is one of George's favorite restaurants.



"George and Barack looked like best friends. They don't seem to run out of things to talk about," an eyewitness shared with E! News. "They were laughing the entire time and taking pictures together."

Our source added, "Michelle and Amal got along well. They laughed and it seems to be a nice friendship between them."

We're told the restaurant put a sign up welcoming the Obamas and even dedicated pizzas in their names.

"George was very kind helping all of the ladies including his wife in and out of the boat," our eyewitness shared. "They all look very elegant."


For those who may not recall, the Clooneys and Obamas share a long history together. All the way back in 2012, George hosted a fundraiser at his Los Angeles home for the president's reelection campaign.

Fast-forward to 2018 when George received a special message from Barack before accepting the AFI Life Achievement Award. "George Clooney is a good man, a good citizen and an outstanding maker of film," the politician gushed in his video message.

Sounds like this friendship is solid!

The local paper - they are forecasting that the reason Barack Obama paid a visit to George is to endorse him for a presidential run.......?!

The man who "saved" Clooney

Clooney's pool didn't warm up just on the eve of Barack Obama's arrival. Laglio's plumber solved Clooney's problem in eight hours


He is one of the few to have had coffee with Clooney.

And he also has a souvenir photo with the actor who has decided to keep to himself.

Dante Pennè, Laglio's plumber, saved the pool at Villa Oleandra.

Because the day before the arrival in Laglio of the former president of the United States of America, Barack Obama, the pool at Villa Oleandra broke.

Cold water and lower than usual. Something was not working at the drain, evidently, and as in all the best families the failure occurred on the eve of the most important day. As soon as Clooney noticed it he warned his staff.

Giovanni, the bodyguard, all made by Clooney, calls the Lagliese plumber who reaches the villa in a flash. The tension is sky high, the pool must be repaired immediately.

"It happened just the day before Obama arrived - he says -. I had also set up the entire irrigation system a month and a half ago. When I did this surgery for the pool, I didn't know Obama was coming and, when they told me, I had a hard time believing it. So I felt the pressure even more. But then I realized what didn't work, nothing serious, even though I spent more time than expected. For the urgency at the pool I thought I would have to spend two hours, instead it took eight of them, helped also by collaborators of external companies, but then we were able to solve it ".

Clooney was a gentleman, as usual, and supervised the work all the time offering coffee to the plumber.

"Clooney has always been kind and helpful, the other day he called me to take a picture together, in fact it is the first since I met him, but for now I prefer to keep it only for me - continues Dante -. He is a very humble person despite the great fame he enjoys. With him there has always been an excellent relationship ".

One is an actor who has friends and presidents as his friends, the other is the plumber but Clooney is famous because he treats everyone the same way. And in Laglio this people know.

George Clooney is very concerned about protecting his privacy when he is in Laglio (among the reasons why he chose the village) but with his collaborators, he has always been very kind and helpful, so as to offer them dinners at the villa to repay their debt what has been done for him in these years. Dante is a very discreet guy who never talked about the work at Clooney's house except that the emergency at the pool catapulted him into the spotlight.

"I did my job - says Dante - but he is really special. Clooney is really a humble person. He greeted me in person and we exchanged two words. I told him I'm a little fat from the last time we met. And he joked: "And I have aged" ».

When the Obama family arrived the pool was perfect as it should be.

And the landlord made a good impression.

"Obama? No, I didn't see him - concludes Dante - I entered the day before it arrived and then it was enough ».

And, thanks to him, the pool did not disappoint the expectations of the very illustrious guests.
