Annemarie, there is no way the public in the village would not be aware of the security blanket involved, and if they've closed the public car park which is opposite d'Oleandra it would mean further consultation with the Laglio council. This is the only road to go through the place.

Impossible for anyone to ignore the helicopters, no doubt divers and large numbers of suited FBI types who have descended on the place. Past presidents are afforded the same level of security as the present one I believe.

The mayor/town had to deal with these logistics last year, didn’t they? Last year it was Prince Harry and Meghan. I would guess there was vast amounts of security for that visit. It will be hard not to notice the huge security detail that will be there for the Obamas.

Actually I think the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are, if you like,a bit more of an undercover operation . The Royal Family have never had a huge security press that we know of. Not so long ago the Queen was on a horse riding down the Mall for Trooping the Colour at Horse Guards parade. I couldn't have told you who of those, say 'footmen', 'outriders' on horseback, were her security. Obviously all the police on duty for the crowds that day all had a purpose, but the spectacle itself has never been compromised.

Last night I was at a meeting in London - and only discovered later that Prince Harry had just left! That's how it is. And most of the Royal Family today are at Royal Ascot for the horse racing where top hat and tails are de rigueur. Security is without doubt there - but very discreet.

Harry and Meghan went to George's on his plane and who knew they were there at the time? Mind you, I wouldn't be that surprised if the Obamas go to see them too as they're this side of the pond! We really only know what they want us to know, but the geography of Lake Como makes it all a bit more public....

As far as I could find, other than "In Touch" doing a bit on Sasha and Malia's clothes, the press here has made no mention of the Obamas being in France or Italy.

Granted I did a really quick search, but it seems the Obamas manage the press very well.They seem to get coverage when they want it and avoid it when they don't. Good for them!

I googled ‘Obama Italy’ and there is nothing about this trip. There are reports about the family vacationing in southern France right now but that’s it. Hmmm, got to wonder if the Italian news got this right. We shall see.

The American actor reached Villa Oleandra late yesterday morning and had lunch in the garden



Clooney arrived at Villa Oleandra ready to receive Obama. Two days to go before the Obama's arrival at Villa Clooney di Laglio, and even yesterday the police chiefs gathered in the prefecture to define the complex security plan in the places that the former presidential couple will visit.

From the sound of this I don't think anyone will get close enough to take a picture. If we see anything it will either be something George and the Obamas release themselves or something taken from really far away with a telephoto lens.

I just hope they have a fun, safe weekend and it turns out they don't really need all those security forces.

The next stop on the Obama's European jet-set tour will be George Clooney's mansion on Lake Como.
Former president Barack and first lady Michelle, as well as their daughters Malia and Sasha, are to be the Hollywood actor's latest guests at his luxurious home in Laglio.
The governor of Laglio has decreed that fines of 500 euros ($565) will be in place for any vessel or vehicle approaching within 300ft of the Villa Oleandra, which is usually accessible to the public unlike typical A-list properties.
The Obamas will reportedly take their private jet to Milan from Provence where they are believed to have been staying at a $60,000-a-week villa in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine region.

The family will join Clooney and his wife Amal at a charity dinner for The Clooney Foundation for Justice on Saturday evening after their arrival on Friday.

Mayor Roberto Pozzi confirmed the government was taking a number of security measures for the Obamas who have been pictured flanked by a secret service detail in France. 
'The parking lot at the back of Villa Oleandra will be closed for two days, Saturday and Sunday, because it should be available for the security service cars. In the territory and also on the lake, numerous men and law enforcement agencies will be in service,' he told Estadao.
The Riva Soldino beach nearby and the town's pier will be closed to everyone except boat owners over the weekend, and even the water surrounding the villa will be in the exclusion zone.
In addition, there is a warning to potential drone pilots that their craft will not be tolerated close to the property. 
The Piazza Barelli will be closed and parking is not permitted to accommodate TV broadcasting crews.

She was pictured in her Class of 2019 photo wearing a white dress after graduating from Sidwell, Washington DC's most elite private high school, which costs $40,000 per year, on Sunday.
Barack, Michelle and Malia were photographed sitting down in the stands and later mingling among the other families in attendance. 
Sasha is reportedly set to start at the University of Michigan in the fall. The teen opted not to follow in Malia's footsteps by attending an Ivy League school by allegedly turning down a place at Yale. Her 20-year-old sibling is currently enrolled at Harvard.

They are having a charity dinner on Saturday night.

So if they're having a charity dinner to raise money for their foundation, I wonder who else is invited. There have to be at least a few more people. It can't just be them and the Obamas.

I saw the piece on TMZ on tv. They mentioned the dinner with Bono in France but didn't say a word about tomorrow's dinner with George. I bet Bono will be there, too. I'd love to be a fly on the wall tomorrow night.

Se non altro, per Laglio si tratta di un evento semplicemente incredibile. L’ex presidente degli Stati Uniti d’America trascorrerà proprio lì, alla villa Oleandra dell’amico George Clooney, tre giorni di vacanza, da oggi (intorno a mezzogiorno) fino a lunedì. Un’attesa durata una settimana esatta, quando la notizia dell’arrivo dell’illustre ospite è stata annunciata in esclusiva proprio da “La Provincia. E se fino a giovedì la situazione in paese è rimasta piuttosto tranquilla, ieri c’è stata una vera e propria invasione di inviati da tutta Italia e paparazzi, pronti a scattare la foto dell’anno.

Things are always a little stressful when visitors come around for the weekend—even for George and Amal Clooney, who are hosting Barack Obama and his family at their lavish Lake Como villa in Italy from Saturday through Monday.
Not only has security been an issue with any vehicle or boat coming within a few hundred meters of the property subject to fines of over $500, the neighbors are up in arms that the Clooneys have been monopolizing the local gardeners. One told the newspaper La Repubblica that he hasn’t had his lawn cut for a week because his gardener is on “special assignment” sprucing up the Clooney estate.
Then, just before Obama, his wife Michelle and their daughters Malia and Sasha arrived from Milan on Saturday in a armored entourage of seven cars with darkened glass, a white van for luggage, six police cars, and a helicopter overhead, Clooney noticed that the swimming pool was half full and the water was like ice. He asked his bodyguard Giovanni to call Dante Pennè, the local Lake Como plumber to sort him out.
Speaking to Corriere Della Sera newspaper, Pennè explained that when he arrived at the Clooney household, things were out of hand. “What a race,” he said. “I arrive and they are all upset. Giovanni says to me: hurry up, hurry up!” Penne, who did not know who the special guests were, said he responded, “Let me work, otherwise I won’t be able to fix it.”
After a few minutes, Pennè said he was able to sort out the thermometer and drain. Clooney, wearing a sweaty Casmigos T-shirt, was thrilled. He obliged the plumber and granted a quick selfie. “Thank you, I was worried,” Clooney said, according to the plumber. “You know, my friend is a tanned guy, he doesn't like cold water.” The plumber did not respond to a Daily Beast call for clarification.
The Obamas were in Italy to attend a charity dinner Saturday evening for the Clooney Foundation for Justice, which will soon be awarding a double date with George and Amal as part of a new promotion.
There is also widespread speculation that Clooney is considering political office, and what better place to discuss it with a former president than a perfectly heated pool.

With so many boats out on the lake I would think it’s a bit of taking your life in your own hands if you go swimming in that area.

Funny report of the pool malfunctioning and the neighbors being upset that all the Gardeners were working at George’s villa last week Are gardeners that scarce in Como that George gets criticized for monopolizing all of them? And the comment from George supposedly speaking of Obama that he’s a tanned guy who doesn’t like cold water? Kinda of a odd thing to say.

Barack Obama is continuing his European vacation with a stop in Italy -- where he and George Clooney are taking suited-and-booted boat rides together ... comfortably, of course.

The former POTUS was spotted getting off a vessel with his actor pal Sunday near a dock on Lake Como in Cernobbio. It's a gorgeous area at the foot of the Alps -- right next to Switzerland's southern border -- and 44 and George were dressed for the occasion.

Both guys were wearing jackets and dress pants -- but neither appear to be rockin' ties, as their collars are open and unbuttoned. Gotta keep it business caj for those Italian lake views, right? No sign of Michelle, Amal or the kids here ... might've just been a bro sesh.

Love it that George still has BOAT....
