Re: The Serious Side - part 2
On January 29th, 1979, 16 year old Brenda Spencer, sat at her bedroom window in San Diego and shot pupils and adults at the neighboring school, killing the school's headmaster and caretaker and injuring eight pupils and one teacher. Asked why she'd done that, she said: "I don't like mondays!"
Bob Geldof turned this into a song which became the biggest hit for the Boomtown Rats.
No muslim background. Just because someone didn't like a certain day of the week...

Re: The Serious Side - part 2
Impact of Trump's ban:
- Problems for airlines flying to the States who are not able to have pilots and service stuff from banned countries on these flights
- People with two nationalities. E.g. one German MP who was born in Iran and escaped with his families after 1979, is German citizen, but since Iran doesn't delete heir nationality has two nationalities. He's the chairman of the German-American MPs and is not able to go to the States anymore. Nor is a British MP who was born in Iraq.
- The director and staff members of the movie 'The Salesman' who's nominated for Best Foreign Film, since they're all Iranian nationality. The director, Asghar Farhadi, was nominated before.
- Google has called back all their foreign staff members who are abroad at the moment, concerned they might not be able to return anymore and the company could loose many qualified employees.
This just shows how wrong and odd it is to put nationalities or religions under a general susoicion...

Re: The Serious Side - part 2
Quite an example you dug up, hathaway.
A mentally ill girl who suffered brain damage & who claimed she was gay from birth.
Who next? The Asperger's guy who shot his mom & a group of 5 year olds in kindergarten in Connecticut in 2012?
Totally veered off track. Is it gun lobby issue?
As Charlton Heston said of George Clooney, "class missed a generation" comparing him to his aunt Rosemary Clooney.
President Trump is vetting Muslim terrorists. One way to do it is check high risk nations.
Period.

Megolomania? LOL. On a fan site for the ultimate one who embrasses gross exaggeration & megalomania. What an embarrassment Clooney's been in recent years. A contradiction to what he preaches.
Cos, let's face it, he's not the man he was in Return of Killer Tomatoes anymore.
Clooney can only dream to play roles of two bit presidential candidates. Donald Trump is a billiionaire & President of USA.
I bet Clooney's seething with jealousy.
Said "there is not going to be a President Trump."
Even Julia Roberts knew but kept a poker face to mask her shock that Clooney would say that.
Then he held fundraisers for Crooked Hillary at $150,000 a pop. What a waste!
Where's that money gone?
Where did it come from?
President Trump financed his own campaign & had no celebrities rallying for him.
Oh, he's the megalomaniac?!

No, I think it does nothing to protect us as it claims and does much to embolden our enemies, including terrorists. I am not against vetting--and if they can think of a way to improve it without a religious test I am not against that. Refugees already go through tremendous vetting by all the intelligence agencies. I don't think Trump has even read what the process is.ladybugcngc wrote:So you think the ban should be expanded?fava wrote:I understand she was Pakistani and came through Saudi Arabia, so the ban would not have stopped her!ladybugcngc wrote:hen Trump was running in the primaries Ryan and Pence both came out against Trump for calling for a ban on Muslims coming into our country.Donnamarie wrote:PAN, I'm surprised we'rTashfeen Malik the wife, with an infant child, who pledged her allegiance to ISIS and went on a murderous rampage that left 14 people murdered and many more injured was not born in the United States.e just finding out about this guy found dead in his car in Russia. Supposedly his death occurred on Boxing Day? A month ago? This story has not surfaced here in the states. This is stunning!
Honestly I've been annoyed that the Russian hacking story has not been talked about as much in the last week. Not surprisingly, with all of the other Trump antics these past six days it is hard to keep up with so many controversies.
The Muslim ban is despicable. There haven't been any real threats in the U.S. to warrant this action. The mass shootings that have occurred in our country were committed by people born in this country. Our vetting process for refugees is extensive. It is a fact that it takes 18 months to two years before a refugee is allowed into our country. And even then it's mostly women and children. This is no more than an attempt by Trump to throw his weight around ... big, tough guy. Making pronouncements in his usual authoritarian way. This is going to bite him in the ass. There are many outraged here in the states over this. The Republican Party once again has shown its true colors. W

@carole Hathaway - ignore your posts? I came here to call you out on an irrelevant example of The Boomtown Rats song inspiring a mentally ill person to shoot... in 1979.
The only response you have is "ignore."
You chose that as an attrocity on par to Islamist terrorism.
Seems like a desperate witchhunt against US President here.. Calling for the President to be impeached. Insult after insult. Promoting hate & links to buy merchandise to attack him.
On a public forum.
Libellous accusations.
Not many can ignore that.

Rocco,
up to now President Trump has nor prooved that 'he's a patriot', nor that 'he's doing great things for our country'.
I don't pay respect to a function but to actions and decisions, and Trump's actions and decisions don't let me pay respect so far. (And since I don't live in the States, I don't feel the need to respect him anyway.)
I don't think we all want to repeat what's been written and discussed over the last months, especially in the 'The Serious Side' thread, if you'd like to, just go through all our posts.

Can't even have a coherent argument.
@"hathaway "- over sensationalising? From a gossip tabloid source? People. Why don't you post & quote full article?
It says "might."
Not that he was banned. Vetted. He's being screened.
Maybe if all those Muslim refugees were vetted before entering EU nations last year, so many Western European women would not have been raped.
Or the little boy raped at a public swimming pool in Austria. I bet they're thankful.

President Trump has only been in office a week.
His policies are all based on patriotism.
"America First" is his adage. So are his actions.
Security. Trade. Economy.
Even if I skim through past comments that lead here, seems like a one-sided attack on a conservative made on a public forum on an actor's fansite.
Well, lucky we have Donald Trump.
He is & will be the top trending news for next 8 years at least. Hopefully.
Anyone else is insignificant by comparison.
Clooney just has to eat humble pie & call him President Donald Trump... in the media. LOL
Show him respect.

Trump is being fed Steve Bannon propaganda. This is no different than his campaign rhetoric. Now our country is suffering from his reckless actions. The media has been told by Steve Bannon to shut up. Trump has called the media the opposition. The media has a huge job to do to constantly push back on the lies that will come out of this White House.

Re: The Serious Side - part 2
For some reason people want to make President Trump the problem. Those who believe they have the god given right to impose mass murder, illegal immigration, and oppressive practices are all problems.
We have to be solution oriented. This is not a republican/democrat-conservative/liberal problem. Over the last 16 years our military has been in a war that has NOT been defined and has no designated end. Corporate businesses have imposed oppressive practices. Illegal immigration exist with no viable solution.
Illegal immigration can’t be solved by a wall that separates the U.S. and Mexico. 99% of the people in the United States know that to be truth; we have 3 other borders. Our illegal immigration problems include people from across the globe; not just Mexico.
Protests in the past were stands against specific oppressive practices and what was thought to be unjustified war. I still have no idea what the women were protesting. Even if Donald Trump is removed, a conservative republican administration will remain.
A protest that is not defined and has no end goal is just empty air. Linda Sarsour one of the organizers of the women's march, would have been a lot more effective leading a million Islamic Faith march against ISIS/IS/Al-Qaida. That is something the entire nation and globe could get behind.
The Executive Orders place the problems front and center. I think the reason our Elected Officials have not put together a systematic response is because they will have to acknowledge problems exist and present viable solutions. Congress now has to give an answer to We the People; something over the past 16 years they have not had to do.

Re: The Serious Side - part 2
Homelessness has been a problem since the Reagn Administration that is when it became critical.
There were homeless before President Obama.
There are homeless be cause there are no homes being built for low and middle income. In New York in my neighborhood and the surrounding ones there are no less than five luxury buildings being built . One of which will be 70 stories.
Trump said himself he wouldn't build low income housing there was no money in it for him. Those who build only do it for money low and middle income makes them no money.
How about the builders build housing for those who need it not those who don't . Also rent needs to be affordable many people cant afford $ 700 or more a month and that is on the low end
you won't find anything for 700 in the city.

Ladybug - Stop harping on what former presidents did or didn't do. The problem now is that we have a president who thinks he can behave as if we don't have a Constitution. Congress is, IMO, scared stiff of him because they've realized that he tries to destroy anyone who doesn't do what he wants - and they're not immune. If anyone (Rocco) thinks that his macho posturing is what we need in the world now I suggest you take a look at the aftermath of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Lizzy you can not separate the past from the present. President Trump made an executive order, the Federal court stepped in with Legal action. That is how our system of Government works.
Macho posturing is not the problem. As shocking as President Trump's actions are, they are a result of PAST HISTORY and the realization this is a problem that requires a viable solution.
You have to look in the past to evaluate the problem and we need A President, Congress, and Judicial agencies that will take action in the BEST INTEREST of the PEOPLE they REPRESENT and NOT political policies that bolster Corporate greed.
You can't talk about what President Trump seeks to do without acknowledging the oppressive political policies and unresolved foreign policies over the past 16 years.

Re: The Serious Side - part 2
Trump has not banned anyone from the countries where he does business. They are Muslim's are they not?
He won't bite the hand that makes him money that's for sure. He is greedy and all the people he is bringing in are
just like him.

Re: The Serious Side - part 2
Maybe President Trump should expand the ban. ISIS/IS/Al-Qaeda and there partners of evildoers are not terrorist, they are mass murderers who abide under the wicked twisted ideology they have the god given right to steal, murder, and destroy.annemarie wrote:How many terrorist attacks were carried out by immigrants from the 7 banned countries.

Re: The Serious Side - part 2
The IRA bombed the sh/t out of Britain in '70s (when I was at school in UK)....NEVER at any point did the UK it's people or its government ever consider a travel ban.... I simply cannot imagine how that would have impacted on my family and extended family all stretched physically and emotionally over the TWO Countries.....The practical ramifications are enormous.....but ultimately ISIS are to blame here.... vet by all means, and vet again....but a blanket ban is harsh..... but it gives a clear message to IS that the Don means business....
He may be mad...and bad.... does it remind you of anyone?....(ISIS)
If he does fig all else... but gets them to the table to talk it would be a miracle.... I can't see anyone else out there..... IS is the biggest threat to the world....if the can get their hands on a nuclear bomb they WOULD USE IT..... and be clear they are trying....jaw jaw not war war......

When President Trump hides in plain sight, lay in wait, and carry out mass murder, then you can compare the two. What Would He Say wrote:The IRA bombed the sh/t out of Britain in '70s (when I was at school in UK)....NEVER at any point did the UK it's people or its government ever consider a travel ban.... There is comparison as far as I can see....the UK underwent appalling atrocities at the hand of the IRA....we Irish were never banned from free movement between countries... does that not compare?...

Donald dumb also stated that Christians coming from Syria should be given special treatment over Muslims.
All humans should be treated equally one religion is no better than the other.
