I think maybe because of the way her work is she works for herself in a way she is more free lance . I hope that makes sense.

Pigpen, in India her hour's discourse discourse is on free speech in repressive regimes, so I think it depends what her brief will be........

By the way Kevin Hart has just been announced for the UAE conference.......

I think she's very used to this sort of thing and has done stuff like it for quite a while

since it is at Monaco i guess we will hear her speaking French ,wasn't she super smart speaking 3 languages fluently ,we didn't hear any Arabic maybe we will hear French or was it a rumor or a lie?!

Well, as she's speaking at two conferences back-to-back this week, no doubt we'll all be able to judge when the conferences each release all the speakers' talks on youtube..........

And yes, we know that she is fluent in both French and Arabic..........

Self-employed and an entrepreneur are 2 different things. Entrepreneurs build businesses. Lawyers (in my experience) in Amal's area hate thinking about the law as a "business" and prefer to think of it as a vocation and a higher calling than the pursuit of profit. It will be interesting to see what the topic of her speech is, but I doubt it's about her own entrepreneurship. Maybe it's about women entrepreneurs in developing or middle eastern countries.

Entrepreneurs?.....Maybe Amal is going to speak about the abuse of their Human Rights....that they put everything on the line....the line that they stand at the back of....in UK/Ireland Entrepreneur's are the most threatened, mistreated, abused cash cows that exist.....

In the Vogue profile of Amal just before their wedding, the article about the design of her wedding dress, the journalist follows her to a fitting at Oscar de la Renta's, to whom the journalist notes Amal speaks entirely in French. I'm certain this article exists somewhere on this website, so feel free to see for yourselves, those claiming she's lying.

I really enjoy the people saying SHE NEVER MADE SPEECHES LIKE THIS BEFORE GEORGE. Because you have always followed the speaker schedules of international business conferences so very closely, you would remember a random barrister from the UK who was booked to give a speech? Rolling Eyes

Without trying to start WWIII, I ask this with all sincerity....

Why is she suddenly speaking all over the place??... Washington DC, Monaco, LA, TX etc etc. This is coming on really way to fast to convince me she's always been the expert on int'l law and suddenly the rest of the world is realizing it and are throwing rose petals at her feet.

She's been with her firm for how many years, and now she's alllllllllll over the map sharing her thoughts.

I think she has been doing these kinds of events long before she met George. How many on here have been following human rights lawyers or what events they speak at. I know I don't and to be honest until amal I hadn't really thought about them.

It makes the news now because she is George's wife , If she were still just amal Alamuddin only those who invite her and know what she does and her interests would have a clue.

Australia, Monaco, etc. Oh, and by the way- she has a book coming out soon, too.

Amal's name is recognized outside the realm of humanitarian and international law now that she has married George. No doubt about it. But she has been doing the same notable work all along. Attending conferences, teaching at another university, writing papers, meeting with government officials in defense of her clients.

I do think that some of her speaking engagements are related to her being very well known now (because of George) outside of her field. But that doesn't change the fact that she has the credentials and expertise to speak to a number of different issues. I don't think the organizations she has been invited to speak to would ask her if she couldn't contribute to the cause of the event.

None of us had heard of Amal before she married George , on her Cv it states what she has been doing much of the same as now. The only difference is her name is now known because of who she is married too so that makes it of interest to the press.

She has co authored another book I believe , I think that's what I read.

I agree with Donnamarie Amal obviously has expertise in several different areas and that is why she is invited
to speak and share her knowledge.

none of us had heard of Amal before, none if us had heard about Doughty Street Chambers or Geoffrey Robertson, and at least I didn't know that you're able to specialize in a field of law called 'Human Rights Law'.
I'm sure she's interesting to talk to, she puts things in a certain perspective, and - of course - the events she attends get a lot of publicity. Maybe they now book her instead of her collegues due to that fact, but that's not her fault. And if she wouldn't do her job there in a propriet manor, she wouldn't be booked.

Just to clarify the book publication:

It is called 'The Right to a Fair Trial in International Law' and is co-authored by Dr Philippa Webb, Kings College London, and Judge Sir Howard Morrison QC of the International Criminal Court

Possibly not a very lightweight tome I'd suggest........

And as annemarie mentioned above her other book was The Social Tribunal for Lebanon: Law and Practice. It was co-edited with two others. Published in 2014. Additionally she has written a number of articles and blogs over the course of her career. She has been sharing her thoughts on human rights and international law for quite some time. We were just unaware of it.

Before Amal I was uninformed on the subject of human rights law and of law firms that work in this specialized field ... like carolhathaway. I didn't even know what a QC was. PAN explained it to me.

Amal has an advantage now of helping in her way to shine the light on what's important to her in furthering the cause of human rights.
