Speaking of air travel - back when the Gulf war was on, my sister and I (and her brood) flew to London on British Airways, my sister insisted we choose British Airways as it would be the safest??.  We were not allowed to disembark at Kuala Lumpur as there was some military coo that just commenced, tanks everywhere on the tarmac, men running around with machine guns, scary stuff. No air-conditioning on the plane and we were kept there for 3 hours, I had the of occupying her little ones as they like everyone were getting all hot and uncomfortable.   Then at the stopover in Singapore on the way home, we were all body searched as we got off the plane and had to stay in this waiting room being guarded by scary men with guns until our connecting flight was ready to board.  I didn't get on another plane for 8 years after that!!

Theminis - I don't blame you! That sounds like a horrible trip - especially with kids in tow. I hate to fly for  so many reasons, but mostly because it hurts my ears. I usually end up deaf for two or three days after a flight. Luckily there's nowhere I have to go at the moment that requires me to get on a plane.

Our school schedules are so different! Our kids start the school year in late August/ early September. They get a week off at Christmas, a winter break week in February and a week off in April - with a few long weekends sprinkled throughout the year. Then they're off for the summer (July and August). The summer break is a throwback to when we were a mostly agricultural country and the kids were needed to work the farms in the summer. Now it's just a pain in the butt for parents and a big plus for the summer camp industry.

Gotta say 3 kids under 5 were better behaved than most adults on the plane for the 24 hour flight - but still not keen to repeat it with my own brood, at least not till Passenger Planes can manoeuvre like an F18.

Captain Kirk and his Wonderful Machine is what we need now !

Hot, humid, weather has broken with electric storms in the night here in UK.....and lovely lovely rain and rumbling thunder this morning.

I love James Garner...so handsome and funny...akin to Cary Grant IMO...

Didn't even know this happened til I saw it here. How sad. I really enjoyed him in everything he did. He had a great career. Especially loved him in "Victor, Victoria" with Julie Andrews.

I remember him in the 1960's film about F1 Motor Racing, Grand Prix.

Sevens - That's the problem I'm having. I do click the "keep logged in" option", but when I come back to the site I have to log in again anyway, and sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries. A bit annoying but not tragic!

Two Australian Hockeyroos have grabbed worldwide attention after the Queen photobombed a selfie at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The Queen attended the Glasgow Hockey Stadium after the Hockeyroos had recorded
a first-up 4-0 win over Malaysia.

A number of the Hockeyroos whipped out their phones in an attempt to get a selfie as the Queen walked past in the background and Jayde Taylor and Brooke Peris struck it lucky when the Queen appeared to stop and smile in the background as they snapped the photo.

Taylor told News Corp Australia that the photo was not a complete accident.
"Brooke [Peris] and I planned it so that when she came out the door she would be behind us. And then she came out and smiled at the camera. We were in the right spot at the right time," Taylor said.

"We were warming down on the second pitch after our game and the Queen came out to meet Donny (team captain Madonna Blyth).
"The security guard led us all round and we got to meet her.

"She asked us a bit about the pitch, how we were going and told us to enjoy our time here. She was lovely - really, really lovely."

The tweet has gone viral and gained worldwide exposure.

I heard that story today in the radio and I was like " I have to see the picture" I knew COH is always up to date hehehe

Go Hockeyroos - that photo is so cute, it was plasted all over the news here yesterday, welcome change from constant airplane disasters, middle east conflict etc.

Can you imagine the girls' reaction when they saw their selfie!!

I think it's wrong to leave animals by themselves all day long and remember you need time every day to go for long walkies. Maybe consider taking two of them so they can keep each other company? Also check how sound proof your home is - there's nothing more annoying than living next door to someone with barking dogs and you won't make friends with your neighbours if the dogs aren't happy.

How do you manage without the Internet now after all the years of having it ?
You're braver than me. LOL

I'd be totally lost without it.....so useful for my researching important topics and keeping in touch with family and friends far away.

This is a picture of a storm that rolled in yesterday (just in time for school pick up) though we made it home without getting wet - more on the way, top temperature of 11c - bring on summer, Im done with winter, though in all honesty it hasn't been a very wet one so I shouldn't complain, but it has been fair dinkum frigging freezing.



From the forecasters -

Expect widespread showers and localised hail and thunder with winds up to 90km/h.
While the squalls will moderate this afternoon, blizzard conditions will continue in alpine areas.
It’s been a busy night for the State Emergency Service, with 1700 people calling for help after winds of up to 139km/h lashed the state. More than 800 came from Melbourne, which experienced a low of 6C, and almost 550 from Gippsland by 10pm.

It is a really lovely picture, I like it too - but sadly will be have to venture out soon to pick up kids from various locations.   Its snowing about 1 hour from where I live, wish it would snow here, that would be amazing to see.
