I just realized we don't have a July thread yet.

Happy 4th July to all our friends in the States! Have a great holiday!

Happy 4th to all! My patriotic neighbors (mostly newly arrived from around the world ) started early - they began blowing up the neighborhood last night. Treated us all to a couple of hours of screaming terrified children. Can't wait to see what they come up with tonight.

its a lovely sunny day here, I am not very clear about the posts section on FAQs. I know you have to have 0-49  as a Clooney virgin, but what are the other post title you get after these, FAQs does not explain this, can anyone enlighten me?

Belated July 4th post - sorry!

Legion-media.ru have pix of the American flag flying at Sonning Lock near George's home....

A lot of US Tourists visit Oxfordshire during the Summer, places like Henley on Thames, and other market towns are steeped in History, Sonning is a very beautiful village and well worth a visit, I feel very privileged to live 38 minutes away from the Clooneys!!! .

I certainly will Joanna, I had thought of quitting this site mainly due to the fact that nobody replies very quickly, I adore George Clooney and think his acting or charitable work is to be commended, he has a beautiful wife and 2 adorable children.  I need to contact admin and tell them not to delete my profile!!

If you go to the section called 'things you need to know first' you'll find a thread with the breakdown of all the different levels.

Hi there! I received your various PMs. I'm sorry if you feel that no one replies to you quickly enough - most of the users are in the US and other time zones. Sometimes it takes a bit of patience but it's a nice group of people here who've often saved my sanity (what's left of it!!).

Hi, Katie! Welcome back. Last we heard you were off on holiday. I hope you're not back at work already!

Quick question. When you're living abroad for work, does home still feel like home when you come back, or is it like visiting a new place? Just curious. I know when I've been away for an extended time I look at home differently - and I've never been away longer than a couple of months. Just wondering what it feels like when you're actually living somewhere else.

Home is always home, but yes, it does feel different from when I used to live in the UK.  I really enjoy doing touristy things in England, which drives my family bananas as they're not really into visiting country homes and doing things like afternoon teas!

I also notice all the changes as I only come back once a year and sometimes it's jarring to see the rise of graffiti or litter in the streets or casual sexism that had mostly gone when I was growing up.  Not sure that we're evolving in the right direction sometimes!

Agreed that we seem to be moving backwards sometimes. The bright light, to me anyway, is that with all the negative garbage going on a lot of people - especially young people - are getting involved in making things better. You know how they say "One step forward, two steps back"? Maybe this time it'll be "Two steps forward, one step back".

It must have been difficult at first to leave home. You've obviously  adjusted well to life abroad, but are there still things you miss from home? I know when I was away there were a bunch of things I missed.

Hahaha, LizzyNY. Well, I'm still on holiday in the UK, so a better time zone to be chatting with you guys right now.

Apart from the people I love of course, the things I miss from home are a random assortment of weird things:

- the change in seasons (I live in the tropics where it's always summer and as much as I loathe cold weather, I do miss the signs that time is passing)

- Sunday newspapers

- being able to cook (I live in hotel property, so no kitchen)

- real life stuff such as shops, cinemas, restaurants, theatre etc (I live on a small island in the Maldives that you can walk around in six minutes)

- being anonymous (anyone who lives in a village or small town will know what I mean)

- a love life

Aaah Katie....so sorry about the last item on your 
"missing things" list.

But I assume it's linked to your penultimate item.
I imagine it's a bit like living in a "goldfish bowl" ?

But your life must be so interesting and it will make a good autobiography one day !

So make sure you cash into your special life and write it soon....under a pseu de nome of course. Hope that's spelt correctly. LOL.

(But please PM your COH house mates when it's out ?? )

Adding my sympathies to Joanna's re: love life. So sorry! (But do I remember correctly that there was someone not long ago? Sorry. None of my business. )

I've often thought it might be fun to live in a hotel, but not if I couldn't cook! (Maybe they'd let you sneak into the kitchens once in a while?)
And no Sunday papers?! No shops? No cinema?! Aaargh! How do you not go mad? 

I had the opportunity to move to Florida a few years ago - climate-wise probably not much different from your island. Couldn't do it. Too hot and humid (and bugs! UGH!) I'll take the four seasons, even with the snow and cold.

How much more time do you have left of your vacation? I hope you cram it full of all the things you'll miss once you go back to work.

Oh, but I AM mad, LizzyNY! Completely round the bend, doolally!

Not so good for wrapping your chips up in though.

I do get the Sunday Times on my iPad, but nothing beats the feel of the actual papers themselves.

I'm also really loving the late, late summer nights right now - it's almost 10pm and I just drew the curtains.

I'm with you Katie. Love the feel of a newspaper in hand.

I assume you enjoy working in the tropics tho ...
Would you consider another locale in the world?
I also love the four seasons. I think I would hate having summer all year long but that's me.
