Exclusive: George Clooney to Host Obama Fundraiser

ET can exclusively reveal that George Clooney is hosting a fundraiser for President Barack Obama's re-election campaign -- but there's one thing he won't do to help the president.

Clooney tells ET, "I'm proud to do whatever I can to support the President... as long as no one asks me to sing."

Of course the singing reference brings to mind the president's own, well-demonstrated singing talent that he has showed off at least twice in recent months.

Clooney will host the president and about 150 supporters at the event on May 10 at his home in Los Angeles, California. If you think it will be cheap to get a chance to hobknob with an Oscar winner and a president, though, think again -- tickets will run $40,000 each, with proceeds going to the Obama Victory fund, a joint fundraising committee of Obama for America, the Democratic National Committee and several state Democratic parties.

Lots of people do that It's Me. They have the ways and means to do it. I couldn't fit 150 people in MY apartment, nor could I feed them, but we saw George's house (or part of it anyway) and I'm sure that he can more than accommodate that many people for a cause that he believes in.

Crikey! Can you imagine the security?? Well, good for him. Standing up for his beliefs again. Admirable. And quite a departure for such a private person....................

I would assume that they will put up a large tent on the grounds...sort of like the dinner the WH for the Prime Minister....which may be what gave him the idea...just a thought....

Maybe he'll set up a tent on the basketball court.....no grass, plenty of open space, easy access to the kitchen/restrooms. You coulld probably accommodate 150 people at tables in that space. Just a thought, cause from seeing his house, I couldn't discern a whole lot of unencumbered yard.

Well, if George is going to host 150 people in his house, he would be wise to rent out port-a-lets (these are plastic privies that are used for toilet facilities at public gatherings) in his backyard, LOL!!

They will probably tent the basketball court. It will probably a great evening with George as host. Wonder if Stacy will be hostess for the evening.

He will if he's smart. Otherwise he'll have strangers wandering through his house into areas he's kept private. He has been very selective in letting people into his domain. He has only shown the more "public" rooms and areas, never his upstairs rooms ever. On an evening like that, I'm sure some of the more curious would venture where they should not.

While I was composing the above missive, Melbert made her statement - Well, Mel, that would be fine for those who can just whip it out, less so for anyone wearing a dress. Of course, he could just dig a hole that the ladies could straddle, like they do in some places in Africa. That might work.

@ Mel - that BBQ in your avatar looks big enough to accommodate food for many, many people. Maybe George will be on burger-flipping duty that evening? He could do a pool party with burgers and beer. Would keep the costs down.

Burgers and beer is great, along with beans, fries, etc. Hey, maybe we could all help cook and man the buffet tables. Does anyone here have a bartender license, so they can make mixed drinks? LOL!!

He could only open the guest house for bathroom use, eh? Keep his home off limits? But when you host that calibre of guestlist, it is considered gracious to open your home, at least to some extent. Maybe rope off the more private areas? I don't know. It's just fun to imagine.....

Secret Service will take care of wanders, can remember George saying when Al Gore came to the villa, that he couldn't walk in or out of a room without SS clearance. Tennis court sounds like a good place to feed 150, at the price of admission they better be damn good burgers and beer! My question what will he do for parking? If SK is his date, than she's been hiding something in her tweets (her IQ) maybe she can mingle well?

He'll probably have limos and valet parking for the guests. Stacey can probably do small talk who knows she might be smarter than she lets on.

I like the idea of poolside barbecue. Those events are always such stiff, formal affairs, something like that would really make it different and memorable (for the right reasons!).

I think $40,000 to party with George Clooney at his place, get drunk with the president and hang out poolside with Hollywood's movers and shakers sounds like a good deal (for those who have the money).

I thought a comment on Celelbitchy was funny regarding this dinner. They said about the conversation between Mrs Obama and Stacy, "I'm a lawyer, well I'm a lady wrestler." Yep so much in common. Enjoy it Stacy because when and/or if you get sent on your merry way, you will never hang with these people again.

You are probably correct, LD, even though George may be hosting the event, it doesn't necessarily mean it will be held at his house, per se. He could rent out a banquet hall where there will be good plumbing, and air conditioning to keep the guests comfortable. Well, $40,000 a ticket, who knew that dinners could be so expensive.

Since he is co-hosting with Jeffery Katzenberg, and he probably has a billion or so more in the bank than George does, maybe it will be held at his mansion where I believe he has held many a big gathering.

And MM, you do realize that it's not the DINNER they are paying $40,000 for. This money will be given to the Obama campaign. The dinner is "furnished" for the priviledge of hobsnobbing with the rich and famous and the President. And, to contribute to his campaign for his reelection.

You know, May is sizing up to be one busy month for Georgie Boy. He's got his birthday, the White House Correspondent's Dinner, the Presidential fundraiser at his house, his speaking engagement in Houston, TX and let's not forget Mother's Day, for surely he'll do something to honor his mom!
