Clooney to visit Geneva for Obama fundraiser
Published: 29 Jun 2012
Hollywood superstar George Clooney is returning to Geneva this summer to raise money from wealthy American expats for Barack Obama’s presidential re-election campaign. Clooney is set to visit the Swiss city for fundraising events on August 27th, according to Charles Adams, an American lawyer and a representative of the Democratic Party.
The movie actor plans to speak at a reception for 150 supporters paying $1,000 each, Adams told the Tribune de Genève newspaper. The event will be followed by a dinner for 50 people coughing up $20,000 each ($30,000 for couples) for the privilege of breaking bread with Clooney.
The events will be closed to the general public.
Adams, a resident of Geneva, is co-president of Americans Abroad for Obama, a group that supports the Democratic president’s bid for a second term. He organized a similar event with the actor in Geneva’s Old Town four years ago that reportedly raised more than $900,000.
Clooney is a devoted Democrat and a long-time supporter of Obama since the politician’s time as a senator for Illinois. The actor recently used his star power to raise $15 million for the president at a dinner held at Clooney’s Hollywood home.

No. He went out of his way to make sure she showed up at the dinners with Obama before. I def saw here at the Washington affair, no mistake. But apparently she left early before they let paps in. Then he went into over mode to ensure that he was seen with many others to fight any claim that she had been there and the ones who knew backed him up. That was all it took. But not gonna argue with anyone about it. Then he made sure she was at the other one too. Yep, she will be there because he would fight hell and high water to make sure. Its a good opp for her to Fame ho herself and he's helping her to do that.

Why George Clooney has chosen Geneva Why George Clooney has chosen Geneva
by Henry Della Casa - Actor will a detour to the road to raise money for Barack Obama in the city of Calvin.
storybild
Already in 2008, the actor had danced all night at Mr. Charles Adams. (Photo: DR)
Confirmation fell last week. After long negotiations with the staff of the actor's lawyer Charles Adams was able to convince George Clooney to remake a visit to Geneva, August 27. What decided the unwavering support for Barack Obama to prioritize Geneva?
"I talked to him four months ago and told him we would much have it here," says Mr. Adams, influential member of the fundraising committee of the Democratic Party. Other cities were still in contention, however, like Paris and London, where wealthy Americans would be willing to pay up to $ 20 000 for the dinner party.
Como at Geneva by car
"What I know is that Clooney himself has chosen Geneva," says Charles Adams, who wants to say as little as possible about the coming of his guest. He concedes nonetheless that the proximity of the actor's villa in Como (I) with Geneva was the key element of its decision. And as the beautiful brown likes to spend his summer vacation ...
If he had considered four years ago to link Italy to Geneva on a motorcycle, star of Hollywood will make this year's drive. As in 2008, it will raise funds to support the Obama campaign. "George Clooney was requested from all sides right now, said the U.S. attorney. But fond memories of his first visit and was very enthusiastic. "
Surprised by the many fans cheering in the streets of Geneva at the time, Charles Adams keeps the secret place of the festivities. But they will slip once again a private home.

Americans Abroad for Obama fundraiser in Geneva with George Clooney
George Clooney will be coming (back!) to Geneva next week on Monday, August 27, 2012. This event is expected to be the single most important fundraising event of Americans Abroad for Obama in this Presidential re-election cycle. This is your final chance to sign up and be at the event everyone will be talking about. We have all been reading about the incredible sums of money the Romney-Ryan campaign is raking in from billionaires. If you cannot attend, please support President Obama and help him have the funds needed to win the election by making a donation anyway.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
There will be a Champagne Reception, at an elegant Old Town venue in the presence of both George Clooney and Ambassador Matthew Barzun, the Chairman of the Obama Victory Fund, who will welcome all participants, share some observations on the Campaign, and answer questions from the floor. The requested contribution for the Champagne Reception is $1000 per person. During the Champagne Reception, for contributors of $5000 per couple, there will be the opportunity for a personal introduction and photograph with George Clooney. After the Champagne Reception, a smaller group will enjoy an intimate gourmet Gala Dinner with George Clooney and Matthew Barzun in a private venue. Special Note: During the Champagne Reception, George Clooney will draw the names of two lucky participants who, along with their spouses or significant others, will be invited to join in the ensuing Gala Dinner as guests of the Campaign.
Only U.S. citizens and Green Card holders may contribute to the Obama Victory Fund, and for Americans residing abroad, passport information is required to be submitted with the RSVP. Non-U.S. spouses, partners and guests are more than welcome to attend, provided that it is the U.S. citizen who makes the contribution of their behalf. Registration for this event is open until Saturday Aug. 25th:

Re: George Clooney to visit Geneva for Obama fundraiser on 27th August
IMO the amount of money both parties spend on campaigning is incorrigible when you think about our national debt. Not to mention what this amount of money could do towards helping the hungry and homeless. It just doesn't make sense to me. I find it terribly frivolous and irresponsible, especially when all they seem to do is talk about and bash the opposing candidate instead of discussing what THEY can do to improve the state of the nation.

I couldn't agree with you MORE sandy. And the $1,000 a plate people are spending could feed a homeless family for over a month. And IMO whatever the candidates say are empty promises which has been proven to be true in the past.

Actually, after reading the description of the event, I wonder if she'll be there too. It's not just a cocktail party/fundraiser like the LA event. George is really going to be working the room, taking pictures with people, giving people what they paid for. It seemed like the LA party was mostly other famous people, and the president was the star. This event is for everyday people, and George is the draw. I know one of the "benefits" of Stacy is that she doesn't need to be tended to, but that's in a room full of Hollywood types. What is she going to talk to business men and women about? It strikes me more like the talk and reception he went to in Texas, and she didn't tag along for that one.

Missa, I think I read somewhere the card of invitation to the gala, and I just saw the name of Stacy.
Moreover, if, as it is likely, there will be wives, partners, daughters of the various bussiness and political, artists (as well as common) men, Stacy will be useful in entertaining (as she did for the whole summer) guests 'female' group .
I believe that she will be ...... nobody knows about the wedding of Brangelina instead?

I'm pretty sure the women who are there will be just as interested in politics/George as the men, and won't need to be entertained separately. And I would be willing to bet that some of the "various business and political, artists" invited will be female. I don't think Stacy will be needed to keep the silly womenfolk busy while the men talk about important things, since we no longer live in 1950.
George will not attend Brad's wedding. (I'm hoping my bold prediction will come true and I will get an exclusive smiley too.... )

I think I heard somewhere that women folk can now eat in the big fancy dining room with the gentlemen. AND they can even join them in the parlor afterwards for cigars and brandy.

Well since it is in switzerland I would like to point out, that it was not in the 50's women got right to vote there, but in 1971. And in some cantons as late as in the 90's.
So cigars and brandy sounds wild in that respect... not that it matters don't like either of those

Re: George Clooney to visit Geneva for Obama fundraiser on 27th August
This fundraiser is not for the everyday people. It is an wealthy group of US citizens ,who live abroad and are paying for an expensive ticket to meet President Obama and George. I am sure he is going to bring Stacy, because at this point, the gossip rags would want to know where she is, if she doesn't come,, that would take away from the fundraising event. He doesn't need her to entertain the women, he uses her as a piece of arm candy or like an accessory to sit next to him at the table. It is a lot of money and yes it could go to important charities, but as American history shows, the more money the candidate has ,the higher odds they will win. Right now Romney has more money, only because he finances his own campaign. They estimate he made just last year, made 46 million dollars and that was just last year, during a recession. Yesterday the electoral college computer predicted that Romney would win by a tiny margin. The electoral college has predicted and been correct for the last 8 presidential campaigns. So President Obama needs help.

The "cigar and brandy" comment was a joke. In the old days (think Gone With The Wind) the men retired to the "parlor" for cigars and brandy while the women talked girl stuff.

When I said "regular" people, I meant non-famous people. Obviously they're extravagantly wealthy; who else can afford a $20,000 dinner? I don't know that the papers would question where Stacy is if she doesn't attend. She doesn't typically go to the political/humanitarian stuff (the Correspondent's Dinner, dinner at the White House, the talk in Texas to raise money for Sudan, the Sudan protest in DC). The only one she went to was the one at George's house, because it was at George's house, and it would have been weird if she wasn't there, like she had specifically been told to stay away. I just wouldn't be surprised if her "projects" keep her too busy to attend, that's all. As far as the papers wondering about it, no one seems to be that interested in them anymore, other than us.

not sure how Stacy not being there would take away from the fundraising of the event. These people have already paid for their tickets, fundraising done. Any other donations given on the night or pledged on the night will happen because George and the president work the room and get them. I highly doubt some of these people even know who she is let alone care less if she doesnt show up. If George determines he needs and escort for the event she will be there, if he wants to be able to work the event alone she wont be there. Th trash mags questioning her absence still wouldnt have any impact on how much money they are able to raise through the dinner.

Guys, this is a forum for GEORGE CLOONEY and a thread about GEORGE CLOONEY raising money for the president. Why are we talking about Stacy Keibler? This isn't healthy.
She's George Clooney's girlfriend. She'll either be there or she won't. Why stress yourselves out weeks in advance obsessing over her attendance? Is no one interested in George?

George Clooney in Geneva for fishing dollars
U.S. presidential
Le matin
The actor, who is raising money for the Obama campaign, will reap more than $ 500 000.
GC wished to come to Geneva on Monday, from Lake Como on his Harley-Davidson. There is currently staying with his girlfriend, Stacy Keibler, and some friends, but the organizers of the dinner to support Barack Obama will be in its presence in Switzerland have decided otherwise. Too risky! Even though his bodyguard was supposed to follow a similar device. The reason is simple: that gorgeous George, eagerly awaited to be there on time and in one piece.
It is therefore a car driver with the actor arrive early afternoon on Lake Geneva for an event very private and very popular at the invitation of Mr. Charles Adams, the architect of his coming and Co-Chair of Democrats Abroad for Obama. Purpose of visit: to raise funds for his presidential campaign.
20,000 dollars cover
Contacted by us, Mr. Adams did not wish to speak. The event is reserved only for American citizens who will pay $ 1000 for reception (urn hundred people) and 20 000 for dinner in small groups, they are 30 000 couple. This meal will move Americans residing in Geneva, but only in a minority.
The bulk of the troops will land in the United States and the rest of the world: Los Angeles, Washington, Chicago, Moscow and Dubai. Or forty people, including relatives of the actor, attracted by the star to graying temples. Entries will be validated and curly tonight. Each participant must show their credentials and prove his passport he is an American citizen.
Very involved in fundraising for President candidate, Clooney holds the record in this field. In June, he invited Michelle and Barack Obama in his home in California and some 150 guests and 40 000 dollars cover. A raffle on the Net allowed for only 3 dollars, a Texan and a nobody from Tennessee to join the party. In Geneva, we think it will break a record outside U.S. territory. The amount harvested is estimated could exceed $ 500 000.
Enhanced security
This year, unlike previous to his arrival in October 2008, the safety device will result. Four years ago, Clooney was welcomed by some fans. Smiling and relaxed, but he had to take a back door in a stampede after having indescribable market 10 meters to cross the very select rue des Granges. Monday, a security cordon erase this bad memory. The actor will decide in the evening if there is one more day. He spent the night at the hotel, not the armor in the old town, in a private.

I think the French journalist intends, in a general sense, meaning the period, Stacy and friends are spending the summer in Como ... but it is clear that George should arrive on monday in Geneva and perhaps stay overnight there and leave the next day. ..
Como-Geneva by bike is not exactly as Como-Lugano, I do not think can do it in the morning ....

lovelylois wrote:This fundraiser is not for the everyday people.
This is the least of the worries about this campaign...it's the SUPER PACS that will outspend President Obama by almost half a trillion dollars! The BIG MONEY billionaires don't have to do "fund raisers" to pool their money together. This weekend there will be a "private" meeting of the moneyed people in Tampa Florida and it will have people like David and Charles Koch, Sheldon Adelson and other billionaires who will be deciding how much each of them will pony up to defeat President Obama. They want to BUY the election for the Republicans so they can control the WH....plain and simple. Grover Norquist made it VERY clear in a recent statement...."all we need in the WH is someone who has enough "digets" to hold the pen to sign the legislation..."

Katiedot wrote:Guys, this is a forum for GEORGE CLOONEY and a thread about GEORGE CLOONEY raising money for the president. Why are we talking about Stacy Keibler? This isn't healthy.
She's George Clooney's girlfriend. She'll either be there or she won't. Why stress yourselves out weeks in advance obsessing over her attendance? Is no one interested in George?
I guess we think her attendance is related to George since it is related to George. Do you want us to start a new thread to discuss whether stay will be at the dinner on the Girls thread???? That would be stupid. I think Katiedot you have to accept that she is probably the biggest story in G's life right now given he's got no movies out and has been with her for the entire summer. There is bound to be crossover on the threads.

I am wondering if we will even see anything about this --photo wise. I seem to recall the 2008 fundraiser was mentioned but I don't think we saw any photos. It was kept very private. Does anyone else have a better memory.

Look, crossover I don't mind but it does concern me when every thread immediately becomes entirely about Stacy instead of George. The next mrs clooney wrote: I guess we think her attendance is related to George since it is related to George. If George has done nothing to interest you, I have to ask what on earth has Stacy done that's so fascinating?

Re: George Clooney to visit Geneva for Obama fundraiser on 27th August
I read somewhere, I think it was here, that (according to the electoral college) the candidate who has the most money has the best chance of winning the presidential election. Hence all the fund raisers. Romney is a millionire in his own right and uses a lot of his own money for the race, whilst Obama has to depend on contributions and fund raisers.
It seems it doesn't matter which candidate is more suitable to be president, so long as the candidate has more money he's odds-on to win. I wonder what this means for us middle class Americans.

SillyGirl, I don't believe she did. The video of her was at another event, and I think they just added that extra video stuff to the story. Just fill-in fluff.

its not stacy that has done anything interesting it's the relationship between her and George that is intriguing.

thanks Melbert....I didn't watch the video just saw the post....I can't believe it has been 4 years....I would say "time flies when you're having fun"....but I think it still "flies" when you don't.....
Should be interesting what news comes out of this fundraiser. As for the money issue cindigirl brought...I think it is terrible that it is all about money....I think it should be about who can do the best for the country and both parities are lacking in that department....

damn
the equation
more dollars
means to win
it surely contrasts
with the American dream
"We want a common person, but we also want a leader who is uncommon, charismatic, heroic and a visionary. We say we want a president from a log cabin but we vote for an awful lot of people who came from wealth."

Agree - I don't think I'm going to exercise my right to vote this year because I don't know who is the lesser of the two evils.

Re: George Clooney to visit Geneva for Obama fundraiser on 27th August
I know cindigirl...but I think I am going to vote for Pres Obama....let him stay for 4 more years to see if any thing works. Then it will two new candidates to run...I hate re-elections campaigns the most. Personally I wish there was no re-election allowed...all elected officials should be around for one term only....then maybe they actually do their job instead of worrying about being re-elected. Pipe dream I know but maybe someday.....
