Nothing like burning your bridges on both sides of the sea. Most Italian men would know her as a velina and doubt she gets shown alot of respect. Problem for her now is alot of american men have seen how badly she can act. Maybe she should try and pickup another nationality and she can do her own little survey on men of the world!

To EC's SMALL defense - when one knows a person was suffering from a long illness, their passing is a blessing to the sufferer. So, though sad for losing her grandmother, EC may be calmer now knowing her grandmother is at peace.

BTW, not trying to "mock" anyone with their personal thoughts on this, as I've been saying the same thing too. Just trying to take a step back a little. So, hope no feelings are hurt for me (twice) taking an opposite approach from my original comments. And, hope all that made sense!! (group hug)

It is way too late for Eli to play hard to get anyway. This advice although very dogy would have been better at the beginning not now at the end. Way past any hope of her getting a ring no matter what she does. These books are just dumb what works for one person wont work for someone else and who wants to trick someone into marrying them with these sort of games. A woman who doesn't want to get married wouldn't buy the book anyway!

Talent show stars take centre stage at Sanremo

The 61st edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana or Sanremo, as it is more popularly known, kicks off this evening. Gianni Morandi is hosting the four-day festival, which, as customary, will be split into two categories: the established or “Big” category and the newcomers or “Giovani”. Gianni Morandi is this year’s host.

Among the 14 established artistes are a number of veteran singers like Patty Pravo, Anna Oxa, Al Bano and Roberto Vecchioni. But standing out will surely be some young faces who have gained “instant” popularity through reality shows.

These are Emma, who won last year’s edition of Amici on Mediaset; Nathalie who won the last edition of the Italian version of X Factor on Rai; and Giusy Ferreri who gained fame and success after placing second in a previous edition of X Factor. The winners of the past two festivals had in fact participated in the talent show Amici: Marco Carta in 2009 and Valeriu Scanu last year.

Other names in the “Big” category are Max Pezzali, formerly of band 883, Anna Tatangelo, Tricarico, and Luca Barbarossa who is duetting with Raquel del Rosario (wife of Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso). There are also two male duos: one made up of Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi and Cesare Malfatti who have united solely for the festival under the name of La Crus; and the other formed by Luca Madonia and the legendary Franco Battiato.

Over the years, a lot of attention has been cast on the female assistants of the festival’s compere or vallette. These have included international models such as Eva Herzigova, actresses such as Irene Pivetti and Serena Autieri or TV presenters. This year, it’s the turn of two showgirls whose love life is constant fodder for the gossip columns and who will surely steal the spotlight: Belen Rodriguez, who is in a relationship – a seemingly stormy one too – with controversial entrepreneur Fabrizio Corona, and Elisabetta Canalis, whose boyfriend is none other than American actor George Clooney. At the moment, there is also speculation that the former might be pregnant and that the other’s wedding is imminent.

Two comedians, by the name of Luca and Paolo, mostly known for taking part in the show Le Iene, will be intervening throughout the festival with their sketches.

The music extravaganza is also known for bringing over the best of international artistes. This year’s include actors Robert De Niro and Monica Bellucci and singers Take That and Avril Lavigne. Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo is also expected to make an appearance on stage. The format of this year’s festival will be slightly different than recent years in that Thursday’s show will be dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. Thursday’s show was lately duet night in which the singers performed their entry with artistes of their choice. Instead, this year they will be singing classic Italian hits such as Il mio canto libero, Il cielo in una stanza, O sole mio, Mamma and Viva l’Italia.

Strained relations and an atmosphere of palpable nervousness on the stage of the Ariston Theater in Sanremo where, shortly, will start the 61st edition of the festival song best known in Italy.

Unfortunately, the eve of great tension has added a note of sadness: the death of his grandmother, Elizabeth Hurley, which was deeply rooted in the former tissue from a young age. Have the important task of their way to demystify everything that happens on stage. But they are trying behind closed doors and that all concerned: the public is not the traditional Raiuno transgressive One of Italy. You should have thought before ...

The Sound of Music will have to win at least ten million viewers in prime time: the most important one that affects the other.

It will not be easy, because Mediaset stand strong counter-programming: it will be aired - as usual - is the Zelig Friday that the Bulls on Saturday. Not only that Flavio Insinna is preparing a special episode with the amateurs who will perform even from home. Sharp weapons, in fact.

Sky One also does not care Sanremo: Thursday prime-time broadcasts the long-awaited series Spartacus, a concentrate of winning sex, blood, eroticism and blatant power.

And to make matters worse you put even internal competition on Tuesday evenings Ballarò will stand as usual with their politicians, and Thursday Annozero will try to win it on special evening dedicated to the 150 anniversary of the unification of Italy.

Well we will see some good. You just have to wait ...

Purtroppo alla grande tensione della vigilia si è aggiunta una nota di tristezza: la morte della nonna di Elisabetta Canalis, alla quale l’ex velina era profondamente legata fin da piccola. Purtroppo “the show must go on” e la Canalis, dopo aver dato l’ultimo saluto alla nonna, è tornata in riviera a fare le prove.

Intanto intorno al festival, quest’anno più che in passato, aleggiano pettegolezzi, segno della mancanza di elementi validi proposti dalla manifestazione…

Al centro del gossip a tutti i costi le due “vallette” Belen Rodriguez e Elisabetta Canalis e i rispettivi partner, Fabrizio Corona e George Clooney.

Il primo ha accompagnato la sua “girl” ma è una presenza indesiderata da tutti i vertici della Rai, che non lo vogliono neppure in platea. Il secondo non ci sarà: nonostante la “fidanzata” sia sul palcoscenico il bel George sarà lontano, sul set del film Ides of Mars.

In compenso ci sarà tanta altra bella gente dai cachet milionari: da Fiorello a Robert De Niro, da Monica Bellucci ai Take That in versione originale (appena riunitasi), solo per citare qualche nome.

Antonella Clerici - regina della scorsa edizione - sarà l’ospite della prima serata. In arrivo anche Mario Balotelli che dovrebbe essere l’ospite sportivo, come Cassano lo scorso anno.

A mio parere le vere sorprese del festival 2011 non saranno le due ragazze, né Gianni Morandi (conduttore del quale si sa già tutto), ma le due imprevedibili Iene Luca Bizzarri e Paolo Kessisoglu dalla comicità tagliente e troppo esplicita in doppi sensi.

Avranno il compito importante di smitizzare a modo loro tutto ciò che accade sul palcoscenico. Ma stanno provando a porte chiuse e questo preoccupa tutti: il pubblico tradizionale di Raiuno non è quello trasgressivo di Italia Uno. Bisognava pensarci prima…

Tutti insieme appassionatamente dovranno conquistare almeno dieci milioni di spettatori nella prima serata: la più importante, quella che condiziona le altre.

Non sarà facile, perché Mediaset opporrà una strenua controprogrammazione: andranno infatti in onda - come di consueto - sia Zelig il venerdì che La Corrida il sabato. Non solo: Flavio Insinna sta preparando una puntata speciale con i dilettanti allo sbaraglio che si esibiranno persino da casa. Armi affilate, insomma.

Anche Sky Uno non si cura di Sanremo: giovedì in prima serata manda in onda l’attesissima serie Spartacus, un concentrato accattivante di sesso, sangue, erotismo sfacciato e potere.

E come se non bastasse ci si mette anche la concorrenza interna: martedì sera Ballarò terrà banco come al solito con i suoi politici, e giovedì Annozero tenterà di averla vinta sulla serata speciale dedicata ai 150 anni dell’Unità d’Italia.

Insomma ne vedremo delle belle. Non resta che attendere…

IT's rinse-repeat over and over again.Wouldn't it be a change if for once he had a relationship with one of his girlfriends where he actually came out and publicly supported her or talked about his love of her,not a close friend says they have never seen blah-blah-blah!

Don't mind the dress though. He has never really talked about any girlfriend except Celine don't see him changing that now.

Belen can dance and she looked hot. Eli looked terrible in this tight, tight pants and clearly they were trying to match her skill level. Still didn't get there though it was awkward. Belen seems more comfortable and Bette really nervous. I liked the red dress she was in and the silver one and her hair has been lightened by the looks of it. The old guy just seems annoying but he is probably a big star in Italy and I can't understand what they are saying so maybe he is funny. Not getting many laughs by the sound of it though.

The twist? Really? Don't understand how doing a simple twist to a song that's several years old is entertaining - apparently the audience didn't either Crying or Very sad

Belen...the more I see of her, the less I like her. I think I might be team Betty on this venture (I know, right?).Coming down the stairs in the blue/red dresses - I understand that they're in heels in gowns, would have been nice for Eli to slow down a little to wait for Belen, but then with Belen's little pout, I had to wonder if she was doing it deliberately? Then when they were walking out - in the black and silver dresses, and Eli slips on her dress? Belen very nicely points it out to everyone, just in case you missed it, she wants to make sure everyone knows (Italians - what does she say here?). So her sweet and innocent, "I'm the good one" act - I ain't buying. She would have made herself look alot more "sweet"if she would have acknowledged it sympathetically. She's the worse kind of snake. Looks like she's going out of her way to make Eli look bad - newsflash - Eli don't need no help looking bad, Belen. And she didn't get alot of applause from that tango either. And in the intro (red and blue dresses) Eli got alot more applause then Belen...This is definitely going to be interesting..

EC's hair - for me, looks dumb to have it short for the press conference than long for the show.

All the touching/holding between the two girls - is that during the show? Looks dumb in the photos.

I think it has been done a little differant in the red and silver dress. So it looks shorter in one then the other. It is lighter. I agree about belen I don't buy the sweet act and I saw how she made sure no one missed eli's trip. But then Eli probably would have done the same, I think there is alot of competition between the two of them. Belen wins on dancing that is for sure but she needs some softer hair. Don't forget Eli is Italian and Belen argentinian so that could explain the cheers as well. No one seems to be getting huge applause no matter what they do! So far Eli has performed about as well as i thought she would I'm guessing the powers that be now know why she got the sack from TRL. Still stumbling and yelling out the names she is introducing guess she hasn't gotten the hang of the microphone. I actually wanted Eli to do well just because of all the negative press coming from belens side but she just doesn't seem to be cut out for this sort of gig. How are the Italians reacting to this besides the boring and too long comments I have read?

Yesterday we saw her busting a move on TV in black PVC tights and a sequinned top.
But last night, Elisabetta Canalis went back to her glamorous self in a long cutaway white gown which flattered her stunning figure.

The model girlfriend of actor George Clooney was hosting day two of the Sanremo Music Festival which will determine who represents Italy in the 2011 Eurovision contest.

The 32-year-old teamed the wraparound dress with diamond hoop earrings and towering strappy white sandals as she walked on stage at the Ariston Theatre in Sanremo, Italy.

It was a far cry from the disco attire she sported yesterday when she showed off her dancing skills as she did the Twist with fellow host Gianni Morandi.

But the dress didn't stay on for long as later in the show, Elisabetta changed into a burnt orange colour floor-length gown as she took part in a musical number with Morandi, model Belen Rodriguez and actor Andy Garcia, who played the piano.

Then she dashed backstage to make another costume change, this time into an asymmetrical sequinned number to wrap up day two of the festival.

The 61st Italian Music Festival runs until Saturday night and the winner of the song contest will go on to become the 2011 Italian Eurovision representative.

Candidates compete during the next four days and the winner will be announced during Saturday’s gala.
Host Gianni Morandi formally represented Italy in the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest in Amsterdam and placed eighth.

Yesterday, he had to be careful not to slip over in his socks, while Elisabetta took off her shoes to dance barefoot too.
Elisabetta first walked on stage in a floor-length sparkling silver gown with a plunging neckline and then later changed into a shimmering red dress.
