Thanks soooooo much to everyone adding photos here.
I'm just merging a few threads together so we've got all the Venice stuff in more or less in one place, so my apologies in advance for moving things around.

First person who signs in! LOL! I think we said the "official" start was 7 PM New York City time???? Today is ending up being a busy day for me at work, so I may just sign into chat to keep it open and pop in now and again. This way one will be able to see the conversation.
BTW, with this coloring it may be hard to see as Katie had to help me. In the upper right hand corner of the chat box (bottom of home page), hoover over until your pointer turns into a hand, then click, then sign in. My advice is to open up another windo for the forum, itself, so one can keep up dated with new photos, articles, ect about Venice FF.

Okay, just have to click when your pointer turns into a hand and you are automatically signed in. Its to the far upper right corner above the chat box - just before the dark bar ends.
I'm signed in, but like I said very busy today (figures ) and away from my desk most of the time, but will pop in whenever possible.

What wonderful pictures, Laetval! The ladies look fabulous and the men dashing! I love seeing George’s personality come out! He’s having fun and no one can take that away from him! I would have hated it if he was totally serious throughout the whole affair!

I agree! I do like Marisa and Rachel's gowns, but the style for both gown is "old looking" for them.
Cindy's dress is great. ROTFLOL! Wonder if its a Cavalli. But, what the h*ll did Cindy do to her eyes? I think she looks like a different person and actually looks older.

George Clooney's 'Ides of March': Early reviews from Venice
August 31, 2011 | 11:07 am
George Clooney's "The Ides of March," a story of backroom betrayals during a critical moment in a fictional presidential race, kicked off the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday, and the early critical appraisals -- positive but a bit reserved -- are trickling in.
Clooney directed the film and also stars as Gov. Mike Morris, a hardcore liberal’s dream candidate; Morris’ campaign is run by Paul Zara (Philip Seymour Hoffman), with Stephen Myers (Ryan Gosling) Zara’s most talented — and unreservedly idealistic — aide. Two seemingly innocent Myers encounters — between him and a campaign intern (Evan Rachel Wood) and an adviser to Morris’ rival — set off a chain reaction that threatens to take down the candidate.
The film won't hit U.S. theaters until Oct. 7 (when the L.A. Times review will appear), but here are a few early assessments:
Deborah Young in the Hollywood Reporter says, "poised between politics and thriller, this morality tale from Clooney & Co. is illuminated by a terrific ensemble cast." She adds that "its dingy Midwestern setting" and "structural lack of heroics" is likely to "keep the popular vote down" on the film. But she says “Ides” can "bank on tense pacing and a superb cast, led by a ruthlessly idealistic Ryan Gosling, to win festival votes beginning with its Venice bow."
Writing for Variety, Justin Chang is less enamored, calling the film "implausible, toothless and weirdly dated" and saying: "Ho-hum insights into the corruption of American politics are treated like staggering revelations. ... George Clooney's fourth feature as a director observes the inner workings of a Democratic presidential campaign through the eyes of a hotshot press secretary who isn't as smart as he thinks he is; something similar could be said of this intriguing but overly portentous drama, which seems far more taken with its own cynicism than most viewers will be."
Dave Calhoun at Time Out says the film is "solid enough as a minor moral tale about politics -- but its teeth are not as sharp as its ponderous title, overplayed final scene of co-star Ryan Gosling staring into a television camera or more flat noir-ish elements would all like to suggest. However, taken as a diverting aside on our world and with its more awkward pretensions forgiven, it’s captivating enough and well-performed."
Meanwhile, over at London's Guardian newspaper, they're already reporting the odds for which film is likely to take home the top prize at Venice, the Golden Lion. According the the Guardian, bookmaker Paddy Power says David Cronenberg's "A Dangerous Method" -- which looks at the friendship between renowned psychotherapists Sigmund Freud (played by Viggo Mortensen) and Carl Jung (played by Michael Fassbender) -- is the 5-1 favorite to go home with the Lion.
"Ides" shares 6-1 odds with "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" and "Shame."
And in case you're curious, betting is already on in Britain for February's Oscar race. "War Horse" from Steven Spielberg has 5-2 best picture odds, while the silent film "The Artist" and Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar" coming in at 4-1. Bettors seem to like Oprah Winfrey's chances at being host too.

Wow I think George looks great and back to his old self. He doesn't have to worry about anyone except himself. The women could off dressed better I think. What was Marisa thinking that thing around her neck looks bad the colour isn't so crash hot on her either. I don't mind the white but a little casual compered to everyone else. Hope the film does well and George does some interviews for it.

George Clooney fated for ‘Ides of March’
By Stephen Schaefer / Movies
Thursday, September 1, 2011 - Updated 3 hours ago
VENICE, Italy — A charming, joking George Clooney held a light-hearted opening day press conference here for his political drama “The Ides of March.” The movie opened the 68th Venice Film Festival last night and -arrives in theaters in early October.
Clooney directed “Ides” and stars as a Democratic governor on the presidential campaign trail. Ryan Gosling is his idealistic press secretary who becomes enmeshed in a potential sex scandal.
“I enjoy directing myself,” Clooney said, joking. “ ‘I thought you were real-ly good in that take, George.’ ‘Thank you.’ Directing is a fun thing to do.”
But political movies are risky, Cloon-ey acknowledged.
“It was $12 million, not a big budget, and we had to pitch foreign investors about why it’s not about just politics, so the cast made a huge difference,” he said of Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood.
And the Dominique Strauss-Kahn sex scandal didn’t hurt.
“If you’re making a film about delegate counts in a primary, that’s not going to be very interesting. Every country relates to some sex scandal in their own country,” Clooney said.
Would Clooney ever seek a stint in the White House?
“As for running for president,” he said, “we have a guy in office who is smarter than anyone you know and nicer and more compassionate than anyone you know and he’s having an almost impossible time. No, I have a very good life.”

Venice 2011, the stabbing of George Clooney
Alberto Anile
George Clooney (photo Reuters)
Welcome back George, bye George. The Clooney-day Festival and has struck like lightning, has already disappeared, leaving a slight trail of glamor. The passage of the American star at the 68th Venice film festival was expected for at least two reasons: his film "The Ides of March", starring and directed, was given one of the most interesting, and his recent farewell to Canalis was brooding on new escort on his arm.
Clooney arrived on the afternoon of August 30 with a forty among friends and colleagues directly from Como, and went to take refuge at the Cipriani in Venice, the hotel I usually drops. At the Lido, 31, became only see twice: for the official press conference for the film, and on the red carpet for the screening night. On the red carpet but there was no new love Cindy Crawford, supermodel huge popularity in the 80 and 90, along with her husband Rande Gerber: the couple is a close friend of George and his company in the usual tours of the star in motion.
The film, which opened the official competition, has been a successful morning at the screening for critics and a long standing ovation at evening in the new Great Hall has just been restored, before the public opening ceremony of the outstanding. The "Ides of March" of the title alludes to the March 15, the date of the primaries for the U.S. presidency in the state of Ohio for the Democratic candidate (Clooney) and the Republican, the same as many centuries ago, Julius Caesar was stabbed in a palace conspiracy.
Even the candidate Clooney could fall for a conspiracy inside, as the two political advisers, the idealist Ryan Gosling and sailed as Philip Seymour Hoffman, are pitted against each other by the type rival, Paul Giamatti Luciferian ; put us a senator who has the political support to the highest bidder, a tough journalist who knows how to get the news, an intern beautiful and fragile, and the conflict turns into a psychodrama election tones thriller. "I leave it to each audience," Clooney said at a press conference "to decide who in all this is Caesar's, and those who Cassius Brutus. But I do not want to be a political film, the real issue is the moral of what you are willing to sell to get a result. "
In the film it comes to sex scandals ("no comment," Clooney says diplomatically, "Every country has its own"), compromises in politics, blackmail and hypocrisy to get power, but the subject of "The Ides of March ' is in fact the loss of innocence, long before the dirty politics behind the scenes could have been more scathing, however, remains perfectly "readable" even by a non-American audience.
Someone asked Clooney if he ever thought of really get into politics, perhaps even to run for president. "There's already a guy in office," he replied, "very nice and very busy, which right now has difficult problems to solve, but I already have a good job: I would not want to expose myself that way" .
Piacione battutaro and as always, in front of reporters Clooney has exhibited a great shape, just a bit more bubbly than usual: the star was so galvanized by the success of the film, but also unnerved by the fear that someone stabbed settle some of Canalis, or even asking , as in previous years, of his alleged gayità. Instead, everything went smoothly, with a little regret for the absence of the true protagonist of the film, Ryan Gosling (very pleased the spectators, but committed in Thailand to shoot a new film) and a huge ovation for Philip Seymour Hoffman (left pleasantly surprised that the same actor). The film will be released in Italy in January, if all the films in competition at this level will have a good battle.
Later, the red carpet, while Cindy Crawford left the target flash, Clooney has been a good quarter of an hour to sign autographs for fans who handed him over the railing paper and markers. Before them were paraded Vittoria Puccini (patron of the festival), Diane Kruger, Massimo Boldi, Valeria Marini, Christian Capotondi, Violante Placido, and the jury of the festival (including the rock star David Byrne): great fanfare, but incomparable with the turmoil caused Clooney, with entire families of pots and climbing fences to be able to see it over the barriers.
Immediately after the screening, receiving blindatissimo the Excelsior, with fillets of sea bass, chicken with truffle sauce, stewed cuttlefish and cakes: four huge pagodas assembled on the beach have fed hundreds of guests in tuxedos and long dresses, while Clooney, Crawford and the cast of the film is refreshed in the smaller tent (60 diners), watched by bodyguards photographers and inviolable. This morning, September 1, Clooney is already at the airport, this will be the day of Madonna. Welcome back George, bye George.
