Re: The highlight of your week
Hi girls, been a really slow week. Not too much going on but the highlights of my week were 1. received new cellphone and haven't the slightest idea of how to do my thing. Changed carriers to Sprint, got a Samsung Trender, has qwerty keyboard and touch screen. Haven't figured everything out yet. Finally got all my contacts in. Had to do by hand because Verizon acct. was closed out (was under daughter's name and she did transferring of phone numbers for both of us and that closed it out). My phone had no choice of ringers (free) for voice call, so I purchased Alan Jackson's Remeber When.
2. Went and got my flu shot. Hope I'm good for the winter.
Eventful week wasn't it. 11 more days till IOM. Looking forward to that.

I had a job interview today that looks somewhat promising. Hopefully will find out by end of week. I still have a job, just need to change.

Good luck! Fingers crossed for ya.
Yay for a new gadget, Patty. I love new gadgets. My cellphone is due for an upgrade but I'm waiting to check out the new iPhone specs. If it's not a huge change from the current one then I'll grab the v4 when the price drops or I'm eyeing the Motorolla Bionic because it's supposed to have a camera that's similar in quality to a regular digital camera.

Used to love new gadgets. Not really an aficionado of any cellphone. Kids insisted I have one when I'm alone on the road, or when travelling (especially A/P's). Have daughter who works for Sprint, and she offered to add me to her family plan. Had my choice of phones, of course, and wanted something "simple". Didn't want a "computer", no games use, no music, just voice calls, not even into texting. Picked Samsung Trender because it seemed pretty simple. Has a camera (eh!), has a touch screen. and has a full regular qwerty keyboard (not on touch screen) for my needs. Not really a texter, haven't mastered that you. Daughter said she'd show me and I just can't wait (sarcasm).

The highlight of my week is when I can get my email confirmation from Scribe so I can vote. I registered using a different password. JEEZ - I had a baby in less time than this.

OK patty and katie, here it is 2 hours later and they STILL haven't confirmed my request via e-mail, even though they said I was fully registered. I sent them my email address. Starting to think they don't like me.
Katie, you have my full hearted vote anyway. What I did get in email is that I am welcomed to the "old timers club." What does that mean? Now I'm really pissed. LOL

That -if you don't receive an email within a certain amount of time, click on link- That's what they said after they said I was "fully registered." Can't get that message on initial sign-up. And they wouldn't accept my sign-up with my name and password.

I taught both my parents to text and am happy about it.pattygirl wrote: Not really a texter, haven't mastered that you. Daughter said she'd show me and I just can't wait (sarcasm).
Well, mostly.
Today I had this exchange with the maternal parental unit (or M.P.U. as I like to call her). One of my favourite department stores in the UK has just started a half price sale, so I texted her a couple of evening dresses I wanted to buy so she could go and look to see if they looked nice and would suit me. I'll order them online and have them delivered to her home and pick them up when I'm next in London. After she approves, she sends me this text:
Mum: "I have vouchers for Debenhams. Do you?"
Me: "Nope"
Mum: "Ha ha!"
Me: "You're an evil cow"
Mum: "Shame they're 4 instore use only, bitch"
And then dad gets in the act later this evening with this great one-two exchange:
Dad: "I called you but your phone's not working"
Me: "My phone's working fine but you didn't say anything "
The point of this being, Pattygirl, you might want to warn your daughter what she's letting herself in for before she teaches you how to text!

Wish my mom was still around. We used to have repartee like that.
Have to share this with someone, and noone better than you gals.
Bought a new wireless keyboard/mouse set in Aug. It's a Microsoft.
Been having trouble with it, worse that typing on an old manual typewriter (don't know if any of you are old enough to remember them). Sluggish, slow, and doesn't register all characters hit. Been dreading calling M/S because of all the outsourcing. Well, bit the bullet today, called and got through to a rep fairly fast, maybe 5 min. Explained problem, he asked for product ID and asked if I wanted replacement or refund. Asked for replacement and he said no problem since had 3 yr. warranty. Took name, address, email and said to expect new one in 3-10 business days. Only drawback, I have to hold onto old one for the 3 yrs. as warranty is based on it. I think this will be the highlight of my week. I was so surprised that I had no problem doing this. Hope I didn't bore anyone with this trivia.

I'll never understand why some people prefer texting over talking on the phone. I know my kids would much rather text instead of talk. Along with others in their generation their bodies seem to be permanently attached to their iPhones. To me it takes longer to type in a message than to say it. Plus, it's nice to hear a voice on the other end. IMO

I agree completely, cindi. They feel I should know how, so I'll try to learn. Not much of a phone person either. More than 15 min on a call and my ears start to hurt. And I have daughters who can talk and talk, oh boy!

Hahaha - I have (had) a gf who would keep me on the phone (no exaggeration) for one hour. I'd say "well, have to go" and she'd continue with her diatribe abour herself and her family. One time I even tried by saying my son cut himself and he needs me. And she said "OK but let me tell you one more thing." OMG
I learned finally that the way to get rid of her was to start talking about myself and my family. Then she said "well I have to go." LOL

Yes, that's true. My daughter calls me when she has a problem or if she wants my opinion. (Not that I think she listens to my opinion). LOL Maybe she's only using me as a sounding board.
My son is different. One time we were sitting in the living room, I asked him how is day was. He gave me a suspicious look and said "I see you're gearing toward a conversation." Then he went to his room. I get it, sons are different.

Sons are different. They only want to talk if and when there's a big problem. Then, you'd better give a very general opinion, nothing judgemental, or he's out of there.

Got ya beat Cindi! My gf can go on and on and on and on for 3-4 hours!!! I really am not kidding. How stupid am I????? She is very depressed and feels the whole world is out to get her, etc. I am her only "friend", and I really am not kidding with that either. I am alone and lonely too, and sometimes that contact time with her is welcome. However, more times that not, I'm more depressed after talking to her than I was previous. But, I can't just ditch her, we've been friends for 21 years. I'm so glad I can come here and enjoy all of you! And, I can be here for 3-4 hours and not feel drained!!!!cindigirl wrote:pattygirl wrote:I agree completely, cindi. Not much of a phone person either. Since your kids are are adults, you guys could start talking about sex or something to embarrass them, maybe they'd get off the phone quicker. lol
I'm not a people person so that's why I don't like talking on the phone and would prefer to text.
I had a friend like that Mel. I love her to death but when every conversation left me feeling drained from her pity party, I knew it was time to start distancing myself. I hated to be that way because we'd been friends for almost 15 years but the friendship began to be one sided with me lending her an ear when she needed it but not getting the same in return. It stinks being in that situation so here's a big {{{HUG}}} for you.

Have to answer the phone, if I didn't I'd have my daughter on my doorstep all the time, because when the kids couldn't get hold of me, they'd call her since she's the only one close by. A Mom's gotta do what a Mom's gotta do.

Mel good luck hope you get what ever you want............. even George.
Agree with those who like talking over texting, have a hard enough time seeing the stuff on my cell to make and answer calls, forget typing words. Can't understand why someone hasn't come up with a cell that has larger numbers etc. for us that have bad vision. Still have a landline but never answer it.
