Thanks carol. That’s a great clip. I was under the impression they met at someone else’s home in Como. Interesting. Seems George’s agent and his parents knew before George did that she was the one!

He said last year they met at his home, I think it was said or assumed it was at a charity event that summer in Italy.

George Clooney has admitted that it was his friend who initially predicted he would marry wife Amal before he had even met her.
The American actor, 56, recalled his journey to love with his striking Lebanon born other half, 39, as he appeared on Netflix's My Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman.
Ahead of being introduced to the human rights lawyer in 2013, the silver fox revealed a mutual friend called him to say: 'I met this woman who’s coming to your house who you’re gonna marry' - with the pair going on to build their foundation via email.

Smitten George and Amal went onto marry in a gorgeous ceremony at Venice City Hall in 2014 with the hunk's close friend Walter Veltroni officiating the ceremony.
The couple welcomed their first children, twins Ella and Alexander, at the exclusive Kensington Wing of London's Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in June of last year.

Re: George and Letterman
I was just going to say:
I've never read an article or saw an interview where George said that they met at a charity event.
I always had the impression that somebody assumed it and everybody else took it for granted because George and Amal haven't spoken about it for a long time, neither has anybody from their inner circle.

Re: George and Letterman
We have heard that Charlie Rose knew Amal before she met George. I don't know who's Charlie's agent, but maybe that's the friend. She's worked for Kofi Annan whom George knows. She's also worked for Sonia Sotomayor, I've no idea if she knew George as well. Or it might be somebody else, I guess that even Hollywood agents have friends and not just clients.party animal - not! wrote:The Hollywood Reporter article has it all - although Stan now seems to be in on the act with his prediction from a distance.

Re: George and Letterman
Rose volunteered in an interview with George that he had met Amal at the Aspen conferences in the US earlier that summer.
George knows so many people including Annan, John Kerry etc etc who would be in the area. Also wondered if it was a contact Amal already knew from her time in commercial and entertainment law in NYC including the likes of Ronan Farrow or Ellen Barkin who followed her on her twitter a/c.
Still think whoever it was was likely to be at the wedding.........
But it's a good game isn't it.........with continuing clues

Not sure where the "game" comes in. I guess I have to get the "clue".
I don't understand why anyone's marriage relationship would be defined as a game with clues.
I was sure George Clooney's marriage was a prank until I saw Amal pregnant at the United Nations.

Re: George and Letterman
The game is simply us guessing when they met.
It has nothing to do with their marriage. We have always wondered where they met and who introduced them. George has in the past couple of years been telling more about their relationship ,
I can understand his wanting to keep some things private. He is answering some of the questions we have had for a while.

Re: George and Letterman
I get it. It's not about their relationship in and of itself. You have been trying to figure out who introduced him.
What I don't understand is why "who introduced them" is a topic of conversation.
Given thier relationship an agent introduction makes perfect sense.
Because of all the Casamigos promtions we were able to follow them as a couple. George has been a long time advocate of human rights causes. I learned of Amal's human rights cases because of her relationship to George Clooney. I can understand why his agent thought Amal would be a good fit.

So
It was like that ....
Copy and paste
~ they stayed in contact via email
a mutual friend called him to say: 'I met this woman who’s coming to your house who you’re gonna marry' - with the pair going on to build their foundation via email
proving that their love story was fate
"I got her email address ... we started writing"
The former ER star fondly remembered that his parents were also there during the night he first met
"And the funniest thing was my mom and dad were visiting, so my parents were there, and we just talked and we stayed up all night talking"

So they were introduced by a mutual friend , that is a pretty normal way to meet. Sometimes these things work out
sometimes they don't . This was obviously George's time and Amals time to find each other.

Re: George and Letterman
I saw him that summer in Venice..... I went to see a Movie Star and was surprised to see a vulnerable soul.... I posted about it at the time.... I was taken aback by the vulnerability that surrounded him....
Mutual friends often try to help...do their best, and want you to have their life, or a life of their choosing... a life less different....vulnerability opens the door....
I would love to have been his buddy....
But Amal was looking for a husband....and “fatefully” found my buddy.....
My sweet Prince made everybody happy....and found himself.... although lost to some....

George Clooney pulled out all the tricks to land his now-wife Amal.
In an exclusive clip from the actor’s upcoming appearance on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, Clooney breaks down some of his earliest attempts to win over her heart.
Explaining that Amal, 40, works as a human rights lawyer, Clooney, 56, said he used to write her letters as his dog, Einstein. “I would write letters from Einstein to her saying, ‘I’m being held hostage and I need a lawyer to get me out of the room,'” he told Letterman with a laugh.

Later, Clooney said he tried to impress Amal by inviting her to a historic recording studio in her adopted hometown of London, England.
“I went to London to score a movie at Abbey Road, which is a pretty cool thing, you’ve got a 150-piece orchestra and I thought, ‘If you’re ever going to impress somebody,'” he explained.
“I said, ‘You should come to Abbey Road.’ And Amal’s like, ‘I’m at the Muslim Brotherhood right now but I’ll come over right after,'” he said, referencing the Islamist organization, which has faced criticism for alleged ties to terrorism.

“So she left this meeting where she was trying to hold the Muslim Brotherhood to account for something and we’re here just doing a dumb movie score,” Clooney said with a laugh.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, this is really important stuff we’re working on here.'”
The new parents recently celebrated Amal’s 40th birthday with a quick trip to Big Sur. The two were seen flying out of L.A. on Saturday, the day of her birthday, and returning around the same time the next day.
It marked Amal’s first birthday since welcoming twins Ella and Alexander last June. The 8-month-old twins arrived just a few months shy of the couple’s third wedding anniversary in September.

Way2Old - Agreed, but unlikely. You know how he "gushes" about her. Since he seems to like to have a repertoire of stories that he can call on, I wonder if he used this interview as a chance to try out a new set that we'll be hearing over and over in his future interviews. His life has changed so much I think the stories have to be updated.

Re: George and Letterman
Mm, yep, I can understand why you would say that Way2.
I have just come from a Reporters without Borders meeting with Khadijah Ismayliiova (via Skype) from Azerbijan and Dame Helena Kennedy QC as guests, and the meeting also referenced Daphne Curana Galizia the Maltese journalist who was killed by a car bomb because she had also discovered massive international corruption at extraordinarily high levels of the country.
Khadijah, as you may remember was represented by Amal when she was imprisoned. She was and is still not allowed out of the country, and her life is still in enormous danger, as is anybody's who seeks to protect and defend her.
So I can completely understand why George is in awe of his wife - and he's in love with her!

Agree, Pan she is involved with things that are dangerous and in the scheme of things what he does pales in comparison to what she does . As George has said there are consequences in her work. If he makes a movie and it bombs he makes another one no one wants to harm him. He loves her and is proud of her and shows it, I look forward to new

George and Amal Clooney reveal they are sponsoring an Iraqi refugee
Actor George Clooney and his wife, Amal, are speaking out for the first time together about their decision to sponsor an Iraqi refugee fleeing ISIS violence. The couple teamed up with George's parents to help bring Hazim Avdal, a Yazidi refugee, to the United States.
In a wide-ranging interview for David Letterman's Netflix show, "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction," the Clooneys share how their lives intersected with Avdal's and Letterman goes to Augusta, Kentucky, to meet Avdal himself.

"I remember being so struck by his courage but also just this amazing spirit and how he spoke about even after everything he'd lost, he spoke about a desire for justice, not revenge," Amal said. "He spoke about his dream of one day studying in the U.S. and I know we all had the same thought which was, well, maybe there's something we can do to help with that."
Avdal, who came to the U.S. last year, is a student at the University of Chicago and lives close to George's parents.
Michael Bonfiglio, director of the Netflix series, says the show's loose format allows Letterman to get out of the studio and explore the things he finds interesting.
"He's a person who has a lot on his mind. He's extremely curious. He's very interested in peoples and their stories. I think that again the format of the show, gives him the opportunity to explore the world in a way that we haven't seen him before," Bonfiglio said.
He said Avdal's story is a perfect example of what they're hoping to accomplish with the series.
"That's sort of what we're trying to do overall is bring the audience to stories and ideas that are maybe a little unexpected," Bonfiglio said. "I think it sort of shows the best of what our nation can be. Of welcoming people in need."
George also talks about Amal and eight-month-old twins Ella and Alexander in the episode.
"She is sort of this remarkable human being and now mother which is something I suppose, you should assume she would be wonderful at as well but when you see it in person, it makes you feel incredibly proud and also incredibly small," George said.
The full episode of "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" will be available to stream Friday.

Hey, everyone, I understand. I don't begrudge him his feelings for his wife. But in a new interview with a person I admire, I don't want the hour to be filled with talk about his wife, whom I find less interesting. That's it, and it's simply a personal opinion. Draw the claws back in. Nobody's attacking Amal Clooney.

Yazidis are a religious minority who lived in an uneasy existence with their Muslim neighbors in Iraq and Syria.
Tens of thousands of Yazidis fled the August 2014 massacre in Sinjar by Islamic State militants.
About 7,000 women and girls were captured by the hard-line Sunni Muslim fighters who view Yazidis as devil worshippers.
Yazidi men and older women were killed. The younger women and girls were held in captivity for sex.
The United Nations described the massacres of the Yazidis as genocide with UN investigators estimating that more than 5,000 Yazidis were rounded up and slaughtered in the 2014 attack.
Investigations have documented horrific accounts of abuse suffered by women and girls.
Around 3,000 women are believed to remain in IS captivity.
Nadia Murad was abducted at the age of 21 from the village of Kocho near Sinjar, an area home to about 400,000 Yazidis.
She now lives in Germany and told of her experience being beaten and sold as a sex slave by ISIS militants in her book 'The Last Girl.'
To escape, Murad saw a fleeting chance to jump over the garden wall of her captor's house in Mosul.
After wandering the streets cloaked in an abaya, she made a daring decision to knock on the door of a stranger's house and ask for help.
That was a huge risk, and she later learned her niece, also enslaved, had been turned in six times to Islamic State by people she had asked for help.
Murad was lucky that the strangers she found in Mosul helped smuggle her to a refugee camp.
In the book, Murad recounted her life in a northern Iraqi village, her brutal captivity, her tension-filled escape and feelings of betrayal and abandonment by those who failed to help.
Amal Clooney, who represents Murad and wrote the foreword to 'The Last Girl,' is campaigning for ISIS to be prosecuted through the International Criminal Court. In September, the United Nations Security Council approved the creation of an investigative team to collect, preserve and store evidence in Iraq of acts by ISIS.

Britain drafted the resolution to help bring perpetrators of ISIS war crimes to justice - a cause championed by the international human rights lawyer.
