It can be also about networking, right? To get some people who should meet for the cause or another to meet in a relaxed environment. People also tend to be more giving and charitable, when they've been fed well and courted well. And in midst of all the fun they can talk about the project and their goal, and it doesn't feel like a seminar.

I guess that's right. Might also have to do with vanity: to feel schmoozed because somebody who's famous, recognizes you and wants you to join his/her event...

A necessary evil....George may be surrounded by very wealthy neighbours in Lake Como... a waste not to feel their pockets....but as I said a horrible job....Begging with bling.....BTW nothing wrong with begging, we all do it.....I have the greatest respect for true beggars....they do the do because they have to......
