Amal Clooney of the Women's Hour Power List 2015?

Although the hugely respected human rights barrister was there to lobby for the freedom of Mohamed Nasheed, the jailed former president of the Maldives, her campaign was reduced to little more than a footnote in the rather less lofty discussion that occupied the following day’s column inches: should she have shown her knees in Parliament? And (however impressive her record at the Bar) would she have got a private audience with the PM, afterwards, if she wasn’t also married to gorgeous George?

Amal Clooney was the talk of the House of Commons after her visit to Prime Minister's Questions

Whoever wrote this has forgotten that Amal was there with the former First Lady of the Maldives, President Nasheed's wife Laila Ali. That is who most likely received the "private audience with the PM". Amal was there as a representative of Laila and her husband. She wasn't there to discuss something frivolous, she was in an official capacity. Laila Ali would have gotten that private meeting whether it was Amal with her or Jared Genser or Ben Emmerson. That last sentence in this write-up just sounds like someone trying to stir the pot. 

It was Laila Ali who the Prime Minister was meeting with privately, Amal was her representative.

I agree with you, Kat19 and said the same on the 'Amal cases' thread. And of course she works for the British government so entirely possible none of this is new to her.

Women's Hour Power List or most influential women in the world whatever - I find these lists arbitrary.  There's positive influence and then there's negative influence and it's so subjective.

kat made the obvious points.  Amal's "audience" with David Cameron as kat said was warranted as she represents President Nasheed.  In the Huffington Post article posted on another thread it was pointed out that the PM has shown a "keen interest" in this case and once described President Nasheed as his "new best friend".  Of course he wanted to meet, albeit briefly, with Laila Ali ... and her legal counsel.  

I think the author's remarks re Amal were incredibly petty ... why would it be an issue that Amal "showed her knees" in Parliment?  Was that her observation or is this really an issue in our contemporary culture.  And as a successful business woman herself why does she feel the need to belittle another successful business woman.  Yet she goes on in her article to highlight the irrefutable influence of Kim Kardashian.
