Re: April 2015 Chit Chat
I just found this. To the Americans here...do you think this is true?
Homeowners' secret shame revealed: 61% of Americans are embarrassed by their houses - and admit they lie in order to avoid unwelcome visitors
Millions of Americans avoid inviting people round because they are embarrassed about the state of their homes.
According to new research, 61 per cent of US adults have admitted that they don't extend invitations to friends and family because of their 'home shame'.
General mess, dated carpets and kitchens, unfinished DIY projects and the small size of their property rank highest on the list of embarrassments - which awful color schemes, shabby furniture and poor location also proved to be particularly shameful for homeowners.
In a study of 1,000 people for Sugru, makers of moldable glue, 48 per cent said their embarrassment about their home is usually confined to just a few rooms or areas, however 33 per cent acknowledge they are ashamed of their whole house.
More than half haven't let visitors in to certain rooms, and 36 per cent steer people away from coming to visit altogether.
Interestingly, more than half of the participants (54 per cent) admitted that it is their friends whom they try to avoid inviting over, while 38 per cent were more concerned about having strangers visit their humble abodes; 33 per cent on the other hand are most concerned about work colleagues taking a peek at their home.
Top on the list of cringe-worthy rooms is the living room, followed by the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms.
What's worse, 62 per cent worry they will never get their home to the point where they are no longer ashamed by it.
Sugru spokeswoman Jane ni Dhulchaointigh said of the survey: 'When you first move into a house, most people have ideas about how they want to make it their ideal home.
'But a lack of time, money and even basic DIY skills can mean many struggle to see all, or even any of these plans through.
'Sometimes all it takes are a few minor changes here and there. Start small with a DIY project that you're going to actually enjoy, with simple tools that you're confident using and focus on one room at a time.
'The pride that you'll get from one successful project will help spur you straight on to the next.'
According to the survey, a whopping 30 per cent of people have actually pretended to be out when someone they knew knocked on their door, and 14 per cent admit that they have had someone drop them off elsewhere rather than allowing them to see their home. A further 39 per cent, at one point or another, have avoided hosting an event at their home.
Nearly a quarter of people surveyed (21 per cent) also admit to ending a date early rather than inviting their date back to their home.

For months, she's stayed mum on the subject of her body, but now, Giuliana Rancic, who says the firestorm of attention has "gotten out of hand," is finally speaking out.
The E! News anchor's slim appearance at the Jan. 11 Golden Globes sent the Internet abuzz with rumors of eating disorders – and worse.
"Some people were saying, 'The cancer is probably back,' " Rancic, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 and underwent a double mastectomy that year, tells PEOPLE. "And they were accusing me of every eating disorder. I thought to myself, 'God, if someone really thought I had an eating disorder, what a horrible way to approach it.' "
Thankfully, Rancic, 40, is healthy, though she says the cancer-suppressing medication she has been taking since 2012 has had an effect on her body.
"I started noticing that I was eating a lot, but not gaining weight at all," Rancic says. "I was concerned."
Her oncologist, Dr. Dev Paul of Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers in Denver, Colorado, informed her that the drug, which can alter metabolism, could cause weight loss.
"It's really hurtful," says Rancic of the attention, adding that she had hoped criticism about her appearance would quiet down on its own. "I'm sorry that some people think I'm disgustingly skinny, as they put it, but there's nothing I can do. I'm lucky that I even have the type of cancer that reacts to the medicine."
When it comes to her appetite, "I eat more than any of my friends," she says. "I eat a very robust, healthy, balanced diet and dessert almost every night. I'm not hiding from anything."
Though the mom of son Duke, 2½ (with husband Bill), admits that the physical change has been difficult to bear.
"I look in the mirror and it's hard for me," she admits. "I am really thin. I want to look fit and beautiful and sexy, and I can't."
RELATED: Giuliana Rancic on Fertility Struggle: We Lost Our Last Embryo
Speaking out now, Rancic, whose memoir, Going Off Script, hits shelves April 7, hopes the tides will turn.
"I never want my weight to distract people from what I do," she says. "But it is becoming a distraction, [whenever] I wear something sleeveless, show my arms, my back."
In fact, Rancic says a major publication was interested in featuring her but backed out, telling her she was "too skinny."
"That was really hurtful," she says. "I thought, 'Wow, I'm on cancer medication. I'm doing the best that I can.' "
Despite the public backlash, that mindset has served Rancic well.
"I refuse to be broken [by what people say]," she says. "I have so many beautiful things in my life."

Well I used to feel that way but a couple of years ago I went out and bought new furniture and at least for the public areas (plus some repairs and upgrades the landlord had to do a couple of years ago) my place is pretty decent.
But I can understand how people would feel that way.
Unfortunately, with TV shows on HGTV that show beautiful home makeovers, it might make some people embarrassed because they could never afford to make those type of upgrades. Maybe our expectations are too high?

Duke beats Michigan State. Wisconsin beats Kentucky (yes, I said that). Wisconsin over Duke by a whisker.
Toldja :-).
I hope he's ready to see them fall two games short of a perfect season.
Sorry, George.
But, not really.

THRILLED that Wisconsin won last night! I'm a Midwesterner who wants to see a team in the Big Ten conference win a basketball championship. Too bad Kentucky.
If the Badgers play tomorrow night like they played last night, this could be the year! (or not.)

If the game shapes up the way the teams match up on paper, it will be a great one. Duke has settled down from being good but erratic, to consistently good to excellent. Wisconsin plays fundamental basketball as well as or better than any team out there. Duke is a fixture in the tournament, but plays three freshmen; Wisconsin is looking for its first title, but is led by juniors and seniors.
This really could go either way. But I'm calling it in favor of Wisconsin in a tight game. Yes, Duke won by 20 while Wisconsin had to come back from a deficit. But Duke was supposed to beat the #7 seed, and even though Wisconsin was also a #1 seed, they were the underdog against a team that ran the table during the regular season. So I think they go in with more momentum, confidence, and swagger.
Then again, Duke's Jahlil Okofor (sp?) seems to be coming alive at just the right time, and when he's on his game, nobody can stop him.
I'm from the midwest, too, but Duke is the local team. I'd be happy either way. As long as it lives up to its potential.
And especially happy that Kentucky is not in it. Really, really can't stand that program.

Re: April 2015 Chit Chat
Katiedot, the major college men's basketball championship tournament is incredible. It never, ever disappoints. The quarterfinal through final rounds are the most exciting event in all of sports. And this is coming from a woman who once broke off a relationship because the guy made me miss a baseball game.
Anyway, I think the best programs epitomize true college athletics. Most of the players never make it to the pros, but they play their asses off and love doing it for their schools, teammates, and the love of the game.
... Unless you were being facetious. In that case, I'll tuck my basketball nerd tail between my legs and slink off into a corner.

Has any one seen the 2008 film Transsiberian ?
Saw it the other night on BBC3.
It's a rather dark thriller, with twists and turns
and I got so involved in it I actually felt quite tense
in one scene.
Set on the Transsiberian express train to Moscow,
and no CGI !

- Spoiler:
- I think Kalinda is going to figure out a way to kill Lemond Bishop, and then use one of her fed sources/girlfriends to disappear. Bishop is the key to the prosecutors' witchhunt of the firm's lawyers, so if he's gone, the witchhunt is over. Kalinda has lost their trust, and this would be her way of redeeming herself with them. That would be the perfect way for her to leave the show -- and end the Lemond Bishop storyline, which played out for me a season ago.

Hello friends just a reminder 1 year ago 219 girls went missing
219 mothers fathers and families faced their worst nightmare.
A year later it's not over.
It goes on and on.
More kidnappings.
The unthinkable becomes the norm.
Not for the mothers Not for the families.
Please remind people you know today.
Remind them of the day thats in it.

Nicky, if you have about a gazillion dollars in discretionary cash, have George station the SSP satellite over my house on Sunday night. I'll open the window and tilt the TV, and you can view TGW in real time.
As an added bonus, if George is monitoring the surveillance, I'll provide a very special live bonus feature just for him.
Let me know. I can PM you the coordinates so the satellite can zoom right on over.

Any details you like to share
I can't wait until it's out of DVD.....I'm desperate
Oh Nicky. You got to be patient. Us telling you what happens is not half as interesting or fun as watching all this play out on the show. Just try not to think about it so much. You need a distraction. Like George.
