Re: The Monuments Men - Box Office
You should also note that they haven't added the foreign box office into the totals since 2/23, so there will also be a bump from that week and week end and I think it may be finally opening in places like Australia...plus a personal viewing for theminis of course!
JK about the last bit...so don't anyone get crazy on me now! LOL

Analysis of February Box office --- in regards to MM it is not a bomb by any means....

'LEGO' Leads Not-So-Awesome February
by Ray Subers
The LEGO Movie
March 3, 2014
The LEGO Movie was the only clear winner during a so-so February at the box office. Overall domestic grosses came in at around $700 million, which was a 13 percent improvement over last year. Still, it's way off from 2012's $818.2 million record, and is also noticeably lower than 2010 and 2009.
Through the end of February, year-to-date box office is trending up 10 percent from 2013. If that pattern can continue, 2014 will be the first year in which the domestic box office breaks the $11 billion mark.
The LEGO Movie dominated the month of February, earning more than the next four titles combined. The surprise animated hit opened to $69 million, which is the second-highest February opening ever. In the weeks since, it hasn't dropped by more than 37 percent; through the end of February, LEGO had already earned $192.7 million at the domestic box office.
If it holds up well against Mr. Peabody & Sherman, LEGO will wind up with at least $270 million total. Warner Bros. seems thrilled with these results; they're already planning a sequel, which is currently scheduled for Memorial Day 2017.
In a distant second place, The Monuments Men earned $62.1 million in February. Early in its run, it passed The Ides of March to become the highest-grossing movie directed by George Clooney. While it's not a runaway hit, it's likely that The Monuments Men did benefit from its last-minute move out of a crowded December.
The Robocop remake took third place with a very disappointing $47.9 million. Throughout its run so far, it's been consistently tracking behind last year's A Good Day to Die Hard, which closed with just $67.3 million. RoboCop does at least seem poised to outperform Sony's last Paul Verhoeven remake, Total Recall ($58.9 million), though that's not saying much.
To be fair, international is picking up the slack quite a bit for RoboCop. The movie has already earned $136 million overseas, and could wind up with over $200 million total.
Romantic comedy About Last Night started strong with $12.9 million on Valentine's Day. It collapsed quickly, though, and had only earned $41.4 million through 15 days. It should ultimately pass $50 million, though that's still a far cry from similar movie Think Like a Man ($91.5 million).
Ride Along—which also stars Kevin Hart—wasn't far behind About Last Night. The January holdover tallied $40.3 million in February, and has so far earned a fantastic $127 million.
Frozen continued its record-setting run by adding $32.9 million in February. Early in the month, it passed Despicable Me 2 to become the highest-grossing animated movie from 2013. So far, Frozen has earned nearly $389 million, and could eventually inch past the $400 million mark.
Aside from the aforementioned RoboCop, a handful of other February releases were also disappointments. Endless Love failed to do much business outside of Valentine's Day, and ended the month with just $21.2 million. 3 Days to Kill took in $17.3 million in its first eight days, though its harsh second weekend drop suggests it won't earn too much more (maybe just over $30 million total). Pompeii was even worse ($14.6 million), though it is going to save some face overseas.
February's biggest bombs were Winter's Tale and Vampire Academy. Winter's Tale earned $12.1 million, and will likely close with less than $13 million. Meanwhile, Vampire Academy has essentially vanished from theaters with an abysmal $7.7 million.

It's a shame that it had to come out at the same time as "Lego" Now they always compare the two. Lego has a broader range of views, llke a younger audience that spend the most going to the movies. xxx

Re: The Monuments Men - Box Office
Ok the weekend estimates are in and it has hit the 70 Million mark...could go down a bit with actuals but overall I would think that this is good. I have been reading up on how much a film has to make to be successful and I am still confused. I am sure the numbers will slow as the film moves out of theaters.

It made $732,301 more than its nearest rival 300: Rise of An Empire, sequel to the oft-imitated 300, which made $1.586 million across 467 screens, taking its total Australian box office takings to just under $6 million.

'MM' has been in the top 10 -- and as high as #3, I think -- of box office revenue since its release, what, 3 months ago? Four? That's quite a feat. And just what you want and expect a movie like this to do.
I would imagine everybody's happy with its performance.

Wasn't it released February 04, so that's only like 1 1/2 months or do I have this mixed up. Not too familiar checking this stuff.

Yes and I hope they keep it out there for a while like they are doing with Gravity. I do not see a lot of negative things on twitter from people that has already seen MM. It's mostly the critics that down the movie. They also do say it is a worthwhile movie to see. I just hope that it does well in the long run. George is not at an age for this kind of rhetoric, I would hate to see him get discouraged. xxx

Mel I was talking about; in the long run not an opening weekend. It's just that the dollar amount is how it is judged, he needs for it to make X amount of money so that he keeps the status that he is in, with Sony. He has said that he will only be able to do films that he wants for a certain period of time, because he expects that his control in these matters will soon start to decease. George goes more for substance and quality before money, and wants to make the kind of movies that he would like to see. It's just that at this point in time he still has to net a certain dollar amount for Sony.

Re: The Monuments Men - Box Office
That's the harsh reality of show business. If his films don't make enough profit then he won't be making any more films (unless he funds it out of his own pocket).

If the box office covers production and promotional costs it's considered a success. This looks good for him.

So it's opening in China tomorrow. I feel good for its boxoffice prospect because the online heat of MM seems pretty good! I've ordered three tickets!

Re: The Monuments Men - Box Office
Lizzy I've seen it! Can't say I really enjoy it overall, but I like it in many ways...
I like all the performances from the cast...funny lines here and there...George didn't mean to make it a very emotional film, just expresses the ironic contrast between reality and good will in a gentle way. What I don't like about it is George's acting time is NOT ENOUGH! He doesn't really impress me with his character until that showdown with a German officer...
Bad news is Monuments Men seems to get horrible reviews from audience here.
Many of them say they cannot understand all the art/place/role names...feeling bored to sleep or leave the theater halfway! So they say it's trash...
I feel sad because Need For Speed dominates boxoffice for three weeks...it even gets very good reviews here. Can you believe its ratings are as good as the Descandants and MM's ratings are as bad as Batman&Robin?!

Sevens....obviously it's a very European based film.....so don't worry about it not appealing in your country. OK ?
I've pre- ordered my BluRay....comes out in UK on 9 June.

Sevens - Don't worry about it. MM got panned everywhere by the critics. It seems that the audiences who liked it are the ones with a closer connection to the story - Europeans and Americans for whom it struck closer to home.
The movie is doing ok - From what I've seen I think it made its money back, plus a little extra so it's not a total flop. Not a home run, but he didn't strike out either.

It did what it was made for, money, knowledge, and entertainment. It is not for critics, not a very deep movie, but that's what it was made for..
