Frederick Valley (MVD) in excitement at Grabowsee Friedrichsthal: Where else only a few swimmers and cyclists through the forest, there was intense activity on Tuesday. Filming for "The Monuments Men," the new Hollywood film starring George Clooney in the U.S., are underway here.

In the former sanatorium building works were underway for days. Now the cameras are rolling. Also director George Clooney himself is currently on site, as a spokesman for the Potsdam Film Studios confirmed. To see he was not at the fence of the site, no unauthorized persons were allowed to sit on the foot. Even the neighboring Grabowsee was little to see. "We went on a pedal boat, but realized we have nothing," said three young women who set out at the sanatorium a nice afternoon. Meanwhile, at the entrances blocked a security guard to look inside. "Here are just craftsmen on the premises," said a woman, the radio in his right hand.
Than about 14.30 clock arrived the first extras, but it was clear that the rotation has started on Grabowsee. Buses with a hundred people were torn down in military costumes and 40's dresses on the site in a few minutes. Most came from Berlin - as the word "City Tours" revealed on one of the buses. Ready made up and hurrying the performers disappeared behind the gates.
The employees of production companies were less restrained. Even from afar betrayed "The Monuments Men" signs in their vehicles, for whatever reason, they drove through the otherwise peaceful forest by the minute. In the center of Schmachtenhagen from where the shortest path to Grabowsee leads, signs were built, which referred to the set.
It seems to be built outside the former sanatorium: The Oberhavel confirmed that the road to Grabowsee, Malzer the way, is closed due to shooting through Saturday, June 15, daily from 12 am zwei bis clock clock at night.
As early as last fall, the Hollywood star had personally auditioned with Bernhard Hanke, president of the association "Kids Globe". The club has leased the spacious grounds with about 30 old buildings, there to establish an International Academy for the education of children, adolescents and adults. About the special attention that this project is given by the shooting, Hanke is pleased. Because he is still in search of supporters. For a complete redevelopment of the site is currently estimated to be € 50 million. Actually, it may not even be used, but are special rights for the film.
Clooney and his team have been working since the spring to "The Monuments Men". The film tells the true story of a group of allied art historian, save at the end of World War II art from destruction by the Nazis. This was shot in Berlin's historical center and in the Brandenburg Ruedersdorf. Clooney directed, plays a starring role, wrote the screenplay and produced the film.
From Babelsberg however, there was no confirmation of how long the work will take on the difficult to access terrain and by when George Clooney is on site. "The ideal case would be that the public reasons of production safety will notice as little as possible," said spokesman Eike Wolf. In other words, they want their peace and quiet.

In der ehemaligen Lungenheilanstalt waren seit Tagen Aufbauarbeiten im Gange. Nun laufen die Kameras. Auch Regisseur George Clooney selbst ist derzeit vor Ort, wie ein Pressesprecher der Potsdamer Filmstudios bestätigte. Zu sehen war er am Zaun des Geländes nicht, auf das Unbefugte keinen Fuß setzen durften. Selbst vom benachbarten Grabowsee war wenig zu sehen. "Wir sind mit dem Tretboot gefahren, aber erkannt haben wir nichts", sagten drei junge Frauen, die sich an der Lungenheilanstalt einen schönen Nachmittag machten. An den Eingängen blockierte derweil ein Sicherheitsmitarbeiter den Blick ins Innere. "Hier sind nur Handwerker auf dem Gelände", sagte eine Frau, das Funkgerät in der rechten Hand.
Als gegen 14.30 Uhr die ersten Statisten eintrafen, war allerdings klar, dass der Dreh am Grabowsee begonnen hat. Mit Bussen wurden in wenigen Minuten gut hundert Menschen in Militärkostümen und zerrissenen 40er-Jahre-Kleidern auf das Gelände gefahren. Die meisten kamen aus Berlin - wie der Schriftzug "City Tours" auf einem der Busse verriet. Fertig geschminkt und eiligen Schrittes verschwanden die Darsteller hinter den Toren.
Die Mitarbeiter der Produktionsfirmen waren weniger zurückhaltend. Schon von Weitem verrieten "The Monuments Men"-Schilder in ihren Fahrzeugen, aus welchem Grund sie im Minutentakt durch den sonst so ruhigen Wald fuhren. In der Ortsmitte von Schmachtenhagen, von wo aus der kürzeste Weg zum Grabowsee führt, waren Schilder aufgebaut, die auf das Set hinwiesen.
Das soll offenbar auch außerhalb der ehemaligen Lungenheilstätte aufgebaut werden: Der Landkreis Oberhavel bestätigte, dass die Straße zum Grabowsee, der Malzer Weg, wegen Dreharbeiten bis Sonnabend, 15.Juni, täglich von 12 Uhr bis zwei Uhr nachts gesperrt ist.
Bereits im vergangenen Herbst hatte der Hollywoodstar persönlich bei Bernhard Hanke, dem Vorsitzenden des Vereins "Kids Globe" vorgesprochen. Der Verein hat das weiträumige Gelände mit etwa 30 alten Gebäuden gepachtet, um dort eine Internationale Akademie zur Bildung von Kindern, Jugendlichen und Erwachsenen zu etablieren. Über die besondere Aufmerksamkeit, die diesem Projekt durch die Dreharbeiten zuteil wird, ist Hanke erfreut. Denn noch ist er auf der Suche nach Unterstützern. Für eine vollständige Sanierung des Geländes werden zurzeit 50 Millionen Euro veranschlagt. Eigentlich darf es noch gar nicht genutzt werden, aber für den Film gelten Sondernutzungsrechte.
Clooney und sein Team arbeiten bereits seit dem Frühjahr an "The Monuments Men". Der Film erzählt die wahre Geschichte von einer Gruppe alliierter Kunsthistoriker, die am Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges Kunstwerke vor der Zerstörung durch die Nazis retten. Dazu wurde bereits in Berlins historischer Mitte und im brandenburgischen Rüdersdorf gedreht. Clooney führt Regie, spielt eine der Hauptrollen, schrieb am Drehbuch mit und produziert den Film.
Aus Babelsberg gab es allerdings keine Bestätigung, wie lange die Arbeiten auf dem schwer zugänglichen Gelände dauern und bis wann George Clooney vor Ort ist. "Der ideale Fall wäre, dass die Öffentlichkeit aus Gründen der Produktionssicherheit so wenig wie möglich mitbekommt", sagte Pressesprecher Eike Wolf. Mit anderen Worten: Sie wollen ihre Ruhe haben.

Grabowsee is a bit in the middle of nowhere. Maybe we see pics again when they change the filming location. Grabowsee finished yesterday so hopefully we hear something about George today or tomorrow. I miss him too

I have been feeling this for days. What makes it worse is when George is filming "Tomorrowland" we are going to get very little visibility. They keep everything under wraps. This is difficult, love my George.

Mazy, Do you think that because "tomorrowland" will be done in film studios? Or do they have choosen a location which is hidden?

It is being filmed in Vancouver that is all I know. I mean it because they are keeping everything secrete with this movie. So I assume we would not get any of the on location shots that we have been getting with George's MM. This is just my opinion only going by Disney. I hope I am wrong.
