If this is true than It looks to me that George is maybe on his way back to Como. Briancon is close to the Italien border and from there Como is easy to reach. But I'm just guessing here.

I could definitely believe this. What a great way to escape/ adventure/ relax from it all! And stay in a tiny off-the-beaten-track way hotel, which only posts a comment when you're gone. Sounds idyllic - and very George!
