As long as you don't follow fads & pay con artists. No exorbitant fees are required for cleanses.
Just lemons, pure tap water, green tea, fruit & vegetables...& exercise & sunshine. Last two are free.
If anything, you save money & your health.
After first week or a day or so, a good multi-vitamin per day is all you need to add to supplement lower calorie intake if losing weight. And a healthy diet including protein, carbohydrates & good fats.
Then when you've rebalanced your body by eliminating toxins & shed desired weight, you maintain a healthy diet, which you introduce any time from the start of your cleanse.
Basic common sense by educating yourself & adapting what works for you. Not what others dictate verbatim.

Ive never done a cleanse myself, was just told to stay away from mercury laden fish, friends do them and swear by them, but I haven't ventured there yet.

And you were advised well. Swordfish have highest concentration. Tuna, mahi-mahi, even flake from sharks where you're from...
Mercury can cause cognitive damage; dangerous for breast-feeding moms...

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
Yes, Katie, cleanses really do work. The master cleanse is strictly lemon juice in water with raw maple syrup and cayanne pepper, 10 glasses a day. No food. Laxative tea at night, and a sea-salt and water drink first thing in the morning to flush yourself out. The acidity from the lemons causes your internal organs to constrict which squeezes aout all toxins. The maple syrup has enough nutrients and vitamins to keep you nourished and prevent hunger and the cayanne pepper ups your metabolism. The sea salt flush in the morning passes all toxic waste. Your body cycles cleansing every 7 days. So each symptom, i.e. metal, will last in your mouth for the entire day, but the next morning it is gone, you know your body is free of all stored metals. I used to party in my younger years and I tasted a lot of drugs, cocaine was the biggest. Now that was 30 years ago, and for one day that was all I could taste. No "trips" just the cleaning out of any residual. One day it was chocolate, all I coud taste was glorious chocolate, but then the next day, gone. And I didnt crave chocolate after I finished the cleanse. Here is a link to the Raw Food Diet that I followed. There are forums so you can read others questions, ask your own, ad get a good gudleine as to doing this:

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
I'm sorry, cleanses don't work for anything other than losing weight quickly. For that, they're extremely effective although it seems only in the short term.
There's nothing in the ingredients you've described that can remove metals, drugs etc from the body. Maple syrup doesn't have all the vitamins your body needs.
The acidity from lemon juice does nothing: your own stomach is 10-times more acid than watered-down lemon juice.
Cayenne pepper can irritate your digestive system leading to diarrhea - and if it doesn't, the laxative tea you're taking will do the job.
Your body doesn't cycle cleaning every 7 days: it does it constantly and for all things and this takes place mostly in your kidney and liver.
If you're also eating raw foods, veggies and fruits, then that's a good thing but it isn't a cleanse: it's a diet.

I agree with Katie.
What I find interesting is how people
who intoxicate their bodies with substance
and bad nutrition are always the first ones
to want to give health advice.

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
Not sure who you're referring to, Maggy.
Binge drinkers, party girls who stay thin through powdering their nose, bulimics...
However, other factors can enter the equation.
Some people may have a wealth of nutritional & physiological knowledge, but still neglect themselves or even self-sabotage due to emotional issues.
Compulsive behavioural patterns like drinking, over-eating, smoking, biting nails, hair twirling, gambling, etc.... They need to deal with their anxieties.
Sure, they shouldn't preach to others if they're not in optimum shape themselves, especially if in public eye.

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
Regarding cleansing, there is scientific proof that fasting does a body good. Most cleanses consist (or subsist, if you will) on a strict regime of limited caloric intake. While any one cleanse may tout miracle effects, I'm more inclined to believe it's the fasting aspect that is the root of any health benefit and not the intake of any specific food, herb, glorified water, et al.
If you deny the body sufficient calories to function, it will begin to eat away at the body's reserves, utilizing the rhythyms of cell regeneration to consume and dispose, first the superfluous matter housed in the fatty tissue and then, (and this defines starvation), when the body begins to consume muscle tissue.
Doing cleanses is the current trend, but fasting is as ancient as it gets and one reason is because of its intrinsic value. Animals as well as humans, when sick, cut back or don't eat at all, which allows the body to heal and repair. I'm not saying anything new here - this info has been around for centuries.
And as with anythng, it can (and does) get abused. And in health, as well as other areas of life, aren't we prone to cycle through various 'new' trends? The pendulum swings first one way, then another. Awhile ago, it was colonics, oxygen "bars" and goji berries. Recently cleansing came in vogue. And aren't they serving dirt in France, calling it high cuisine? It is what it is. Find what works for you and go with it is my motto. Just don't be a slave or sucker for fads.

What a fun and whimsical idea! Love it! Where is this, playful? I may 'steal' this and utilize something like this for the bridal shower or gee, what a cool thing for a high school prom decoration - have it for the promenade going in. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
Oh playful, btw, we have a steel roof and you should hear it when it rains. Wonderful lullabye at night!

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
You are so right Lakin about cleanses. I think most have gone too far now. I can see doing one for a couple of days but not for a whole month. When I was a kid my Mom would do "fasts" every once in awhile. It pretty much consisted of her drinking only water for 24 hours. She said it cleaned out her system. Then there was the grapefruit diet...or the grapefruit juice diet. That one had her drinking grapefruit juice for three days straight....again it helped her lose a couple of pounds. I know that after overindulged I need to rest my stomach....not sure I would do anything drastic for a long period of time though. I also don't like how all these cleanses cost so much and require special supplements. As it has been said --- moderation is the key.

In the latest issue of Glamour (yes, the one with Stacy's Summer Do's and Don'ts) there's a page with some quotes, etc. On of the things is (listen up, Dior!)
The Word of the Month, which is
fauxpology (fo-pah-lo-jee) - def: the most insincerre of apologies. Example: "She spilled wine all over my Burberry trench adn all I got was a fauxpology. Hello, pay my dry cleaning bill!"
Loved it and had to share with my buds on COH.
