One day I'm going to have to go to Australia to experience the opposite seasons.
I forgot it's Autumn there for you!
Such a mind blowing thing for me thinking about that.
Katiedot I know what you mean. When I used to plan our company events we'd have to book them almost a year in advance if we wanted to get the venue we wanted!
Ok I'm off. Lids are seriously drooping and it's not even that late but too many early mornings lately so night all.

Night Lorna! Katie, I used to do program planning for a non profit I worked for and we did the same thing--Christmas planning in May and June. Was kind of fun but by the time Christmas arrived, I was ready for it to be over!

Yep, me too, when I worked planned all the conferences and Christmas gigs a year in advance, was kind of over it too.
On another note, kids at school 2 weeks and I just got off the phone with yep you guessed it, my sassy daughters teacher.
Apparently in the playground according to my 6 year old, a bigger boy and his friends called her an "ugly country" you can work out what he was really calling her!. Well my daughter aggressively objected to being called UGLY of all things and pushed this boy hard enough that he fell on his bottom, then told him he was stupid as of course she wasn't a Country, but decided to add for good measure that her Mummy was coming to school to bust his balls just like she busts daddys balls all the time!!! Teacher said she is not sure where to begin - but that we should have a meeting tonight to discuss my girls pushing and colourful language. I told the teacher (this took some bravado) that she should begin by talking to the 10 year old with his parents present and remind him that we do not pick on little girls nor call them Countries and that instead of telling me that my daughter set a bad example for her peers, she should be thinking that its good that my daughter stood up for a friend.

You go girl! I have to say that school does have a few problems with the different way they treat boys and girls. I cannot believe she had a problem with your daughter and didn't think the boy's family should be called and told what he said. And he's 10? That teacher needs a wake up call. My sister votes for you as Mom of the Year.

Re: May Chit Chat
Well to be fair, the teacher would have spoken to the boys parents too, however I was not pleased with the overall tone of the conversation being that my daughters behaviour was much worse - should she have pushed him, no, but according to other friends he was in her face and towering over her so I don't blame her in the least. When I picked kids up today, she points out this boy to me, 6 degrees of separation as I went to school with his Mum and his older brother is friends with my nephew - the next few days should be interesting.
ps thank your sister but not Mom of the Year really, most days just try to get through the day without too many epic fails in the parenting department - x

Oh Yuck! I don't think I would want one of my boys to put that to the test! LOL How rank smelling would you be after 100 wearings without washing it? OMG...the shirt would stand in the corner by itself, wouldn't it?
@theminis...I can't believe the teacher wanted to discuss your daughter's behavior without mention of the boy 4 years older picking on her! Talk about having it backwards...even a female teacher sides with the male who bullies a much younger female and we wonder why boys don't seem to have boundaries when girls tell them "No" later on! Starts young I think and if it never gets corrected...their bullying just gets worse.

Love your stories, theminis! Spunky little youngster you got there! Hope life never breaks her spirit.
Hey, you should record these events in a book. One day they'll make great storytelling fodder for your children's wedding rehearsal dinner or graduation party!

I am starting to keep a record of all the funny and cheeky things they do and say. It will be funny to look back on all their adventures when they are older. At school there is so many privacy laws they hide behind its hilarious really. They are not allowed to discuss any other child with you, in any way including any action they may take. Which can get frustrating for me as I like to know the whole situation. Hoping to that my little girl keeps the same attitude she has now, will serve her well I think later on.

theminis, if you can get through most days without too many epic fails, you are definitely a candidate for Mom of the Year. With children in the equation, just getting through the day is a triumph. Getting through a day unscathed is monumental. As I see it, your six year old is truly a "take charge" girl. She won't be bullied which is a wonder in these days when bullying is so prevalent. You have to be proud as her attitude is a direct result of her upbringing. I'm glad she stood up to the jerk. I know with the interlacing of relationships with his family, it will be a challenge but by not backing down your daughter has shown this youngster that there are some that he can't intimidate. Maybe he'll see the light, and hopefully learn to watch what he says. Good luck with the teacher and the parents.

Re: May Chit Chat
Thanks Pattygirl - you are right my daughter is take charge and hopefully will remain that way, so that she wont be intimidated, the absolute last thing I want is for anyone in that school to think my children are an easy target. Im sure that some kids are starting to work that out for themselves! especially with my son who repays in kind whenever someone hits/kicks/pushes him. I have it on good authority that this boy who spoke that way to my daughter doesn't have the best home life which is incredibly sad, but his older brother is a real nice stand up guy Ive known him for over a decade, so there is hope.

Re: May Chit Chat
p.s.
just wanted to add that its not been the best week at school, my son was grabbed around the neck and hit when he failed to pass the basketball back to its owner quick enough, he was very scared as the boy was twice his size. This happened not far form were I was standing waiting for the school bell, so was able to report it to a teacher straight away. My daughter was twice pushed by a girl in class when she stepped out of the line they were in, had to rush her to the Doctor as the 2nd time her head hit the brick wall and developed a huge lump - the instigator is one of the girls from last year who teased mine terribly about her alleged fat legs, and apparently has some behaviour issues (no kidding) - so damn frustrating at times. So Ive had 2 visits to the school and 3 phone calls about this. On a good note my son won another award for excellent school work and my daughter was picked as Class Captain for the month - so I guess it all balances out.
Anyone has some parenting tips please feel free to PM me, need all the help I can get x

That school needs "tips" not you theminis. The fact there is that much trouble seems to me to indicate that the principal needs to take a bit of control and I wonder what happens to these kids when they do things like push your daughter and injure her? The child who did that should have been punished in a way that she won't want to do it again.

Re: May Chit Chat
Punishment varies from verbal warnings, to writing sorry cards (used for kids under grade 4), then its lunchtime detention, suspension or expulsion. She would have been told not to push anyone as you can hurt them, end of.

Re: May Chit Chat
That girl should have been suspended. She's already done similar things in the past year. Lunchtime detention would not be enough. I think you should speak to the principal and tell him/her you won't accept any more of these kind of attacks on your daughter by this girl and if it happens again, you insist the girl is suspended.

Re: May Chit Chat
It wont get that far as I don't know the exact nature of it, but she has behavioural issues, ADHD Ive heard on the grapevine so she would be treated differently than say if my daughter did that to someone, just the way it is Im afraid. I don't want her suspended as I don't think that would make a difference, Id rather see he get counselling from the school, which may be happening for all I know.

Re: May Chit Chat
It's not Easter...in UK tomorrow is a Bank Holiday.
A bit of background information....
Public life
The first Monday in May is a bank holiday and many people have a day off work. Many organizations, businesses and schools are closed, while stores may be open or closed, according to local custom. Public transport systems often run to a holiday timetable.
Background
Many types of May Day celebrations date back to fertility rituals performed in pagan times. This is particularly true of events to celebrate Flora, a Roman goddess. Through the ages, there have been some attempts to outlaw this type of celebration, because it was seen as unchristian. However, the celebrations have been remarkably robust.
In Scotland, the Early May Bank holiday has been observed on the first Monday in May since 1871, but was only introduced in the rest of the United Kingdom in 1978. In 1995 and only in that year, this bank holiday was moved to the second Monday in May (May to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the allies accepting the surrender of the armed forces of Nazi Germany.
This was the formal end of World War II and is known as VE Day.

Not gonna happen even if George made it for me.
Allergic to tequilla too.
Oh ok, maybe not allergic but I got so drunk on the stuff one Cinco de Mayo many years ago that I prayed to the porcelain god for two days and even today even when I just smell the stuff I get nauseous!
So Rande (with an e) and George will not be getting any business from me for this product.
Now if they come up with their own version of an Irish Cream or a Kahlua type liquor then maybe they'd get some bucks from me.

Same thing happened to me with Champagne. When a friend got married about 10 years ago, a guy I was with at the time and I ended up with a case on a beach and we drank the whole thing. OMG, even the thought of it...

well the last time I was drunk was over a decade ago, I'll assume then if like me you really had way too much fun in mid to late 20's (early 30's) with whiskey, tequila and sambucca, that the maturity may be a tad delayed?

Last time I was drunk but not to the point of my 20 something period was last Christmas. And I remember the feeling fondly right now...fireballs warmed me to my inside! Not to mention cranberry margharitas and a whole lot of other really really good stuff!!!!!
I'm with Katie...I resist growing up to the point I don't get drunk every once in a while. Unlike Reese W and her hubby though...I never drive!

I have been tipsy which for me consists of 1 glass of wine, however several whiskeys and Im still okay, must be in my blood. When I was dating Hubby he picked me up as I was loaded and I promptly thanked him by throwing up in his Porsche, he must be very forgiving or must have really liked me...thought for certain Id never see him again.
