George Clooney tries Berlin's cuisine

George Clooney is in town: For his new film "The Monuments Men" on Saturday to cast extras. But before the shooting begins in Babelsberg, the Hollywood star happily first checks out Berlin's restaurant scene.

George Clooney has apparently resolved to test Berlin's restaurants. He was sitting a few days ago in the Kimchi Princess in Goerlitzer station, he's now been spotted in the Bocca di Bacco on Friedrichstrasse. Really, the guest from Hollywood is really working here.

Babelsberg is currently under construction, the film "The Monuments Men," which he's producing and directing. Casting begins this Saturday in Potsdam. Thousands of extras, men especially between 18 and 50 from Berlin and the local area are being sought, said the extras agency "movie faces" on Tuesday.

"None of the candidates may have dyed or highlighted hair, also they should also be rather slim, visually fit into the time of World War II," said agency chief Johanna Ragwitz. Her team has also cast movies such as "Inglourious Basterds" and "anonymous" - both films were produced in Studio Babelsberg.

George Clooney hat sich offenbar fest vorgenommen, sich durch Berlins Restaurants zu testen. Saß er vor ein paar Tagen im Kimchi Princess am Görlitzer Bahnhof, wurde er nun im Bocca die Bacco an der Friedrichstraße gesichtet. Dabei ist der Gast aus Hollywood doch eigentlich zum Arbeiten da.

In Babelsberg entsteht derzeit der Film „The Monuments Men“, den er produziert und bei dem er selber Regie führt. Ein erstes Casting dafür steht an diesem Sonnabend in Potsdam an. Gesucht werden tausende Komparsen, vor allem Männer zwischen 18 und 50 Jahren aus Berlin und Umgebung, teilte die Komparsenagentur „Filmgesichter“ am Dienstag mit.

„Keiner der Bewerber darf gefärbte oder gesträhnte Haare haben, außerdem sollten sie ebenfalls eher schlank sein, um optisch in die Zeit des Zweiten Weltkrieges zu passen“, sagte Agenturchefin Johanna Ragwitz. Ihr Team hat auch Kinofilme wie „Inglourious Basterds“ und „Anonymus“ gecastet - beide Filme wurden im Filmstudio Babelsberg produziert.

Story spielt im zweiten Weltkrieg

Auch Clooney hat sich für Babelsberg entschieden. „Anfang März starten die Dreharbeiten“, bestätigte Sprecher Eike Wolf nun offiziell. Mehrfach war Clooney in einem schwarzen Mercedes-Jeep auf dem Weg nach Babelsberg beobachtet und auf dem Studiogelände beobachtet worden. Er hat dort ein eigenes Büro und bereitet die Dreharbeiten für seinen Thriller vor. „Gedreht wird vor allem in Berlin und Brandenburg sowie im Studio“, sagte Wolf.

Der Hollywood-Star präsentiert sich bei „The Monuments Men“ einmal mehr als Multitalent: Auch das Drehbuch hat er mitgeschrieben. Die Story spielt am Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs. In einem Wettlauf gegen die Zeit versucht ein Team von Kunsthistorikern und Museumskuratoren bedeutende Kunstschätze in Sicherheit zu bringen, bevor Hitler sie zerstören kann.

Neben Clooney werden am Set weitere Hollywood-Stars erwartet wie Matt Damon („Bourne Identity“), Cate Blanchett („Aviator“) , Bill Murray („Lost in Translation“) oder Daniel Craig („James Bond“).

Wer es nicht nach Babelsberg schafft oder George Clooney beim Essen gehen entdeckt, könnte bei der Berlinale Glück haben, die am 7. Februar beginnt: Sein Freund, der Festivalchef Dieter Kosslick, hofft jedenfalls darauf, dass er vorbeischaut. „Er weiß, wann die Berlinale stattfindet - und wir kennen uns ja auch schon eine Weile“, sagte Kosslick und fügte lachend hinzu: „Und von mir aus ist er auf ewig in die Jury eingeladen.“ (BLZ/dpa)
