Warner Bros Moves ‘Gravity 3D’ To 2013
Shit, this is not a good sign:

Warner Bros Drops ‘Gravity 3D’ To 2013, Moves ‘Gangster Squad’ To Sept. 7
By THE DEADLINE TEAM | Monday May 14, 2012
The Sandra Bullock space pic Gravity 3D had been scheduled for November 21, but now it will premiere sometime in 2013. Warner Bros already has a full plate in the fourth quarter — Argo, Gangster Squad, The Hobbit and The Great Gatsby among its titles — so it’s possible the studio wanted to give the Alfonso Cuaron drama some extra breathing room, especially since it will need IMAX’s 3D screens, which are in short supply.
George Clooney co-stars in the movie but the big role is Bullock’s, so the studio could also be looking at another Oscar campaign for her (it also released The Blind Side, which won her a Best Actress Oscar).
Meanwhile, Ruben Fleischer’s LA period drama Gangster Squad starring Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin had moved around twice before, first set for October 19, 2012 before moving up a week to October 12 and now landing on September 7. That date also houses Summit’s The Cold Light Of Day and Oscilloscope’s Hello I Must Be Going. Warner Bros also said its drama Beautiful Creatures is being shifted ahead two days to open on a Wednesday, February 13, 2013, to capitalize on Valentine’s Day weekend.

now we shall petition for the studio to send a copy into space, and some other life forms will one day discover what humanity looked like : Sandra Bullock and George Clooney !
anyway I'm going positive with this (for now) believing that it's just a studio strategy to get more people in theaters by 2013

Re: Warner Bros Moves ‘Gravity 3D’ To 2013
This is in response to the postings in the 'Where is George?' thread concerning the film Gravity.
Sandra Bullock did reshoots on this back in February or March. Clooney is apparently doing them now.
They are shooting in 2D but exhibiting in 3D for wide release (I understand there will also be limited 2D). Not only is this not the best way to film a 3D space movie, it is not how the director envisioned doing it. So this, in combination with the reshoots and now the push back on the release may mean that the production is not going optimally.
JMH(and woefully uninformed)O.
It just may mean they're trying to get it even better than its current excellent state, and want to give it some breathing room after all the 2012 blockbusters and crapfest tentpoles, to minimize comparison and have it stand on its own.

Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity Receives A Rating From MPAA But No Release Date Is In Sight
Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón has been battling to get his highly anticipated science fiction epic Gravity released in theaters. The release date was earlier pushed from 2012 to 2013, and now the MPAA has given the film a PG-13 rating “for intense perilous sequences, some disturbing images and brief strong language.” Unfortunately, there’s still no telling when we’ll get to watch the movie.
Cuarón began shooting the film in 2011, with the hopes of a November 2012 release date, but then the studio behind the film, Warner Bros., pushed it to an “unscheduled 2013″ release. Since the film now has an official rating from the MPAA, hopefully that means Warner Bros. may announce an official release date soon.
Although the film features big movie-star names including George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, Gravity seems like it’s more of a quiet, cerebral film rather than a loud, action-packed thrill ride. Needless to say, Gravity is a tough sell to a general audience. On the other hand, Warner Bros. is making a big gamble with Cloud Atlas, which is also an atypical science fiction film, with the hopes that audiences will show up for that film’s stars, including Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.
There was some chatter that Gravity would premiere at 2013′s Cannes Film Festival, or something more low key like at SXSW, but it’s tough to tell which direction Warner Bros. wants to take the film. Earlier this year, the studio test screened an unfinished Gravity for a general audience and the reaction was positive to mixed.
Here is the official synopsis for Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity:
Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Dolby's Atmos gaining steam
DreamWorks to release 'Guardians' in sound format
By David S. Cohen
Dolby's advanced Atmos sound format is gaining momentum with studios and exhibitors. DreamWorks Animation will release its holiday tentpole "Rise of the Guardians" in the Atmos format, and Warner has committed to an Atmos release for George Clooney-Sandra Bullock starrer "Gravity" and Guillermo del Toro's giant-robots-versus-giant-monsters adventure "Pacific Rim." Both Warner titles are skedded for 2013 release.
Previously announced Atmos titles are Disney/Pixar's "Brave," "Taken 2," "Chasing Mavericks," Fox's "Life of Pi" and Warner's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."
The Atmos format is so new that the decoder boxes for the format haven't even been released to theaters, so all theater deployments to date rely on pro gear that will eventually be returned to Dolby.
"Exhibitor reaction has been extremely positive," said Stuart Bowling, senior technical marketing manager, cinema, Dolby Laboratories. "We have more interest than we can meet for this year." Company expects to have 100 Atmos screens worldwide for "The Hobbit."
Bowling said AMC Theaters and Cinemark have expressed interest in adding Atmos theaters

If this stands a chance at the Oscars, doesn't it have to be released before either the end of this month of before Christmas??? Maybe with the MM next year, they're moving the goal posts so George doesn't have to attend the Oscars???? It just seems strange why everything is being postponed! Georgie must have quite some infuence in film-land!!!

I'm quite naive about all matters Hollywood.
So what would be the purpose of a private screening if no one can
review or talk about the film ?
Would the viewers be asked for their options while
there in the cinema ?

Re: Warner Bros Moves ‘Gravity 3D’ To 2013
NDA is a Non Disclosure Agreement. The reason for viewing's like this is I think for sales implications. When I was a children's book buyer I got to see a few animated films before they were finished. It was actually interesting and fun to see Shrek and Anastasia before they were finished. While watching the films we would see some scenes fully realized and some still in their "line" drawing forms. The purpose was to get us excited for the films so that we would be interested in buying the book tie ins for our stores along with doing big promotions.
Anastasia was shown at our offices but I saw one of the Shrek movies during Toy Fair in a little screening room. They wouldn't let us in unless we signed the NDA. Like I said it was fun to see a work in progress.
Hope that helps.....

Alfonso Cuaron’s ‘Gravity’ Will Take Flight In October
Posted on Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 by Germain Lussier
Alfonso Cuaron‘s latest, Gravity, is back on the map. After having a 2012 release date and then being pushed into this year, Warner Bros. has now dated the George Clooney/Sandra Bullock sci-fi thriller for October 4. It’ll open against Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith 3D, Harrison Ford and Liam Hemsworth in Paranoia and Vince Vaughn’s latest, The Delivery Man.
In Gravity, Bullock and Clooney play two astronauts stranded in space when their ship is destroyed. It’ll also be released in IMAX.
Here’s the official plot description of Gravity, one of our most anticipated films of the year.
Sandra] Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky [George Clooney] in command of his last flight before retiring.
Thanks to Box Office Mojo for the info. Read much more about Gravity, including test screening thoughts, some of its innovations and original delays in our Gravity archive.

Someone must not like Sandra and George because putting off opening Gravity for this long and then having it open with the other movies slated to open at the same time is going to sink the movie. It won't have a chance.

Well, I suppose if we think about it, you need all the key players around to launch it, Jo - and I can't imagine what those two's diaries must look like! Apart from all the other big distribution decisions etc etc.
Makes you wonder about all the scheduling issues within film production doesn't it?

I think because it is in 3D post production was much longer. I was also reading some comments online about some previews and they weren't very good. I have feeling the studio is very nervous about it not being received well so the director needs to tweak it a lot.

Sadly, it sounds like this movie may be too thoughtful for US audiences. I read a synopsis of it and it doesn't sound like the Avenger like thrillers that have become the mainstay of our movies of late. Although, this year has renewed my hope a bit with several wonderful movies that centered around actors older than 30 and without aliens and guns.

October 4 US release.
Possibly George Clooney will premiere this at the VFF in late August.
And Sandra Bullock.
That's all who are in the cast, I think.

Apparently the movie is 60% CGI this can take a lot of editing. It made me curious so I went looking for some info, and found these:

I wonder if it is an official teaser trailer. 3 out of every 4 people who viewed it on YouTube & voted dislike it.
Warner Bros will release a trailer in due course, no doubt. It'll be a great experience to see in 3D at the IMAX.

It was the official teaser trailer for when they were releasing the picture in November 2012. I think because this is going to be so different visually they are trying to tease it without showing how unique the setting is. I am sure when we get closer to the October 2013 date we will get a much different look.
Bad news for us George fans, apparently the original cut of the film someone said 80% of the movie is Sandra Bullock alone, hoping this is an exaggeration, as much as I like Sandra Bullock, but who knows.
