Win tickets to see George Clooney speak in Houston
I'm assuming this is genuine and you need to go to their site to enter:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Contest: Win tickets to see George Clooney on May 3!
What would YOU like to ask George Clooney?
The actor and humanitarian will appear in Houston, 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3, as a guest of the Brilliant Lecture Series, a non-profit founded by Scott Brogan.
Clooney will visit onstage with Lynn Wyatt at The Wortham Center, 501 Texas, for a discussion on Hollywood and humanitarianism.
The Chronicle has a pair of tickets (great seats!) to give away for this event. The winner of these tickets will be the person who comes up with the best question to ask Mr. Clooney. Deadline for entries is 8 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2012.
I will be the one asking the question (sorry, folks), since I’ll be writing a feature story about the event and may get a chance to speak with Mr. Clooney, very briefly, in person. (I know. It’s a tough job but someone’s gotta do it.)
The question should be funny, brief and surprising — nothing run-of-the-mill. It should also be a question he’d be willing to answer.
Good luck! I’ll announce the winner — and the winning question — in a few days.
Even if you don’t win, you can still see George Clooney. Tickets for the event start at $25 and go up to $150. For more information, call 713-974-1335 or visit [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES:
1.. HOW THE CONEST WORKS: Please craft a one-sentence question you would like George Clooney to answer. The winner will be selected from all entries entered at “Bookish” [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Deadline to enter is 8 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2012. Tickets won will be picked up at the Chronicle after the winner is selected. Only one entry per household. The Chronicle is not responsible for lost, late or misdirected entries or entries not received in time.
2. PRIZES: One (1) entry selected will receive two tickets to “An Evening With George Clooney” at The Wortham Center on May 3.
3. GENERAL RULES: Open only to U.S. residents. Employees of the Houston Chronicle (independent distributors, carriers and other independent contractors involved in the distribution of the Houston Chronicle); employees, contractors and personnel of The Brilliant Lecture Series and The Wortham Center, their affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, the employees of each and their immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of each are not eligible. Decisions of judges are final. All prizes will be awarded. Void where prohibited by law. No substitution or transfer of prize permitted. Potential winners must execute any required Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability/Prize Acceptance Form within three days of notification. Noncompliance within this time period may result in disqualification and an alternate may be selected. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission to use the winner’s name and/or likeness for purposes of advertising and trade without further compensation, unless prohibited by law. Re: Win tickets to see George Clooney speak in Houston
A Brilliant maneuver: How George Clooney's major Houston appearance came about
hen Scott Brogan launched the Brilliant Lecture Series in 2006, he hoped to draw some of the world's most interesting people to Houston to talk about the important issues of the day.
Mission accomplished.
Queen Noor of Jordan, Diana Ross, Julie Andrews, Sidney Poitier and former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan have been among the notables who have taken part in the lecture series organized by the nonprofit foundation that also sponsors in-school programs featuring inspirational leaders.
"He's one of those celebrities who has been able to maintain a dignified private life. It's a rare treat to have him share a glimpse of what drives him."
Now Brogan has snared one of the world's biggest names as actor and activist George Clooney will appear at the Wortham Theater Center Thursday night as the latest Brilliant speaker. It will be Clooney's only such appearance in this format in the United States after doing two similar engagements in Australia and Hong Kong late last year.
If those overseas appearances are any indication, Clooney will discuss his life before Hollywood, his passion for acting, why he wouldn’t consider a career in politics, on being voted twice the sexiest man alive and, most importantly to him, his peace-promotion and human-rights work in Africa. Clooney co-founded Not On Our Watch, a group that highlights the dire situation in Darfur.
Snagging top speakers is not an easy task; the sponsoring organization must develop a network of relationships and build trust. Brogan is always asking former Brilliant Lecture speakers, friends and others to suggest good candidates. But when a friend of his, who is a close friend of Clooney's, mentioned the actor, Brogan didn't immediately jump to the idea.
"I had never thought of him as a speaker," Brogan admitted.
But he pursued the matter and was delighted when Clooney agreed to take part in the lecture series. Unlike other participants, who gave a podium speech and then took questions, Clooney will be interviewed by Houston's international icon Lynn Wyatt and engage in questions from the audience. Brogan believes the format showcases Clooney's personality and allows for a more freewheeling session.
"He's one of those celebrities who has been able to maintain a dignified private life. It's a rare treat to have him share a glimpse of what drives him," Brogan said.
The actor won't get much of chance to see Houston as he is flying in Thursday afternoon and leaving early Friday morning, after what figures to be a late night appearance at a dinner at the home of John and Becca Cason Thrash.
But Brogan plans to fit in some time to gather the actor's input about who he might suggest as upcoming Brilliant Lecture speakers. "You can imagine there will be some interesting car conversation with me and Mr. Clooney," he said.

Re: Win tickets to see George Clooney speak in Houston
This is scheduled for tomorrow in Houston? I'll bet he uses this appearance to discuss his passion for Sudan. I hope someone gets some pics or a video.

WOW...what a brilliant question !
Hope we get to hear his response

« George Clooney contest is closed.
And the winner of the George Clooney tickets is…
Diane Purdun Mitchell, for her question:
“If tomorrow, you woke up as a woman, how would you
spend your day?”
It’s a short question, it’s open-ended, and hopefully
it’s a question that will make Mr. Clooney think.
Diane and a guest have won tickets to see Clooney
in Houston, 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3.
The actor and humanitarian is a guest of the
Brilliant Lecture Series, a non-profit founded by Scott Brogan.
The contest, which asked Bookish readers to come up with a brief but compelling question I could ask Mr. Clooney before his appearance, received 90 submissions and many were funny
and thought-provoking. Thank you all so much!

BRILLIANT QUESTION:
“If tomorrow, you woke up as a woman, how would you
spend your day?”
He was interviewed about something like that a while ago and he answered: "I would probably feel myself up."
I hope he chooses his words well in Houston.
