Celebs are sometimes dissed for being over-paid. Today G earned his salary, by using his fame and resulting media attention to save the lives of strangers in a far-away land. Perhaps other potential holocausts in the world will be avoided if dictators realize that they can no longer do whatever they wish without consequences.

Of course he forced it Deb getting arrested was the whole idea of the protest. He knew he would so did his dad, Nina didn't think they would but it gives a huge spotlight on what he is doing. I wonder if Nina bailed them out? LOL

Yes deb he knew what he was doing...I don't think it is unusual to have planned protests with arrest as the result...it is a way to get publicity. If he wasn't involved it wouldn't have gotten the notice that it did....although I am sure it was still a scary thing....

A well spoken, peaceful activist. Although I must admit, I was looking forward to seeing a more abrasive side to the man.

HR 347 states that anyone protesting in a place where there is Secret Service police in use (NSSE) is automatically arrested with a possible jail time of 7 - 10 years. Even if he didn't get arrested on purpose he would have been.
My only hope is that his friendship with the President gets him out of it. I don't think he'd do well in jail, and on a personal level I'd hate to have to go that long for a fix. :/

Interesting commentary about HR347. If the Academy Awards are now considered an NSSE does that mean anyone going to the event to hoping to get an autograph or picture of a celeb is subject to felony arrest? Hmm, me thinks I'll pass on going to the event and standing outside with the "minions" in future!

I just find it adorable that whilst Nick was being "cuffed", George kept his eye on him, stayed close and seemed to be checking that he was ok.

I think that quick chat they had that wasn't overheard by the press before they went up to get arrested was George checking with Nick that he still wanted to do this and that he was up to it. It really wasn't that long ago that Nick was hospitalised.

George jokes to TMZ at the airport (with Stan flying out somewhere) that he used his one phone call from jail to call his mum. No John with George so if he is doing further press, it may be solo.

You're George Clooney and you've just been arrested in Washington, D.C. during a protest. You get one phone call and you know EVERYONE. So who do you call? WHO DO YOU CALL???

HR 347 is a bill--it's not a law yet. Plus it only applies in certain very specific circumstances. From my reading of it, it has nothing to do with George's arrest yesterday.

Re: George Clooney arrested in Washington DC, March 2012
And if he was charged for a more serious offence, the court would look at other factors other than just the offence - it was a peaceful protest, he didn't resist arrest, there was no damage to the embassy, first offence, good character, courts look favourable on people involved with charity, guilty plea doesn't waste the time of the court by going to trial so in many circumstances that helps the defendant get a better sentence, etc.
He would get off with a slap on the knuckles and maybe a fine. I mean, what DA would want to prosecute him? A plea deal would be reached before they stepped foot in a courtroom if it ever went that far.

Yep, he was fined $100.
As far as I understand it, that's it over and done with.

right
so
he has gained lot of press worldwide
with no big risk (sort of)
but he anyway suffered
from that action, in terms of humiliation
I only hope
this feeling would fade soon

Thanks Joanna, funny I just found that video too....
About him being embarrassed, it is what he said to Andrea Mitchell from NBC....I think it must have been only because I feel is still gets embarrassed on red carpets and even though he wanted the attention it was still quite daunting....gotta give him credit for doing this. I also loved the concern he had for his Dad, I really feel his genuineness at time like these.

This is the real George Clooney. Hopefully people will stop focusing on his choice of GF as a statement of his character and focus on what he has done over the past few weeks. Here is a man that stands up for people that need help and does not care about the cost to him personally. This is a man who while being arrested is more concerned about his father than himself. This is the true testament to what kind of a man George really is. Many people may not love George as much as I do but I hope that people an respect him for his humanitarian efforts. George you rock!!!!!!!!!!!

This is very true. When i first came on here I was ranting about his choice of girflfriend and wish he would know better about his choice in women but it IS HIS CHOICE. saying he should know better and everything else i said was pretty wrong on my part but, one can get frustrated when you see the GF of the moment and then see him doing something so "rock-worthy" ( just made that up ) it is conflicting at best and i got riled up i guess. A lot of us on here agree with this. Why would he do something so " rock-worthy" and then date someone so well... not. Unless he doesn't want a girlfriend just a booty call, which i guess i can understand I guess...
I got to spend time on the set with him last year and was so grateful for that whole month and then months later I come on here griping... Oops, frustration set in though not just with him but with myself. he inspired me to want to act more and the governor took away all chances. i guess i realized around my birthday thinking back and going down memory lane telling my friends about how i spent my last birthday how much I miss those opportunities. not just the working kind either.
last year today i nearly collided into him. i will remember that day for a very long time...

Re: George Clooney arrested in Washington DC, March 2012
George allowing himself to be arrested for his cause was I think one of the kindest things he's done so far. In spite of him smiling I'm sure it was a humiliating and humbling experience for him. I think he tries to be a private person when he can and this was a public display for a good reason.
For his girlfriend choices, well I think Stacy is a nice change from the intense relationship he had with Eli. I say good for him, he deserves whatever happines he has.

Re: George Clooney arrested in Washington DC, March 2012
Might have to shift this to another thread... don't know which one though
This is the part where we can easily MESS UP!!! About George I mean... YES, he can be hero no doubt (Well, He is!!)... BUT that is NOT all George Clooney!!! NOT also the "real" or the complete George Clooney!!! He is a mixture of everything -- daring, delicate, dark, dangerous, delicious, divine, demonaic, disillusioned, deceived, depressed, dormant, dominant, doormat ... the good, the bad, the ugly... all into ONE fabulous MIX... NO doubt on that one!!!
BUT, painting him up like the above ALONE and calling that REAL or complete... pushes him into fantasy zone... into an area he most probably finds hard being in / living in... BUT good enough may be, for fans who can rave about how much they "love him" for what they have fantasized of him... And so begins the deception routines, that are really so un-necessary... Because, he wishes also to please as many...
Being in love with George, takes more than dare-devil guts, much more than charming chivalry, much much more than a sweet humane spirit... Because it will also mean, that you will have to know him inside out and outside in... accept him for what he is and for what he is not... and yet... continue to love and care for him... like he is flawless... Yea, the Hero!!! Which he is!!! Yes, that will mean to love him like God loves him... and to love him WITH GOD... NO, not saying you don't Next-Mrs.Clooney I am certain there are many who do...
So yes, that number must be in millions, those who love George I mean in the Next-Mrs.Clooney way Many more who BELIEVE they ARE SURELY in love with him... sometimes so deeply in love with "a George" that they believe they know him a million%... and might even go into a painful rant like mine at the moment may be... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... with the technicalities of situations, his past, his relationships and whatever else BUT then... NONE OF any of that REALLY makes sense... has made sense for any of those millions in love with him until now... has it??? WHY??
Yes... why why why ... Ha!!! Because THE crux of it all, finally is... THE MAN himself!!! WHO does he love?? [HAS he found that love, as in, has that love reached him / touched him already??] Just WHO makes his love work?? HOW MUCH would he really value+want that love?? And HOW MUCH of him is really strong enough to honestly accept that love as a decision??
NOW that is again OUTSIDE of all the fantasy worlds made FOR him... It is THE REAL world FOR him... And every decision he makes about his love, really depends on where he WANTS to be... cocooned in a made-up world by everyone FOR him... OR living and thriving in a REAL world MADE BY him (WITH God)... I guess, this decision has "eluded" him OR may be, he did not find the NEED to take time off to arrive at this decision... because finally, love is about a decision And no ideal decision can be made without GOD, Who is the one that can help him rightly discern what his heart speaks...
Hmmm... so there goes my sermon dear people... It is love everywhere around George... inside, outside, over, under, above... everywhere for George... and yet... his love seems untouched yet...
Love you all once again... Happy St. Patrick's Day... and wishing everyone lots and lots of REAL loving... Our George will always be HERO, whether he climbs Mt Everest, charms the Jails for the downtrodden or is ... hmmm... George!!!

Michelle, I think Stacy is a nice change for George because she's more light-hearted which to me is better for him. He jokes around a lot and she goes with it (and right on cue) - she's well trained. I never believed she was any more than a friend and a PR girlfriend and she's just doing her job. I know this isn't the right thread but I avoid the gf thread.

Re: George Clooney arrested in Washington DC, March 2012
Just to clarify, When I said this is the "real" George what I mean are that how actions over the past week and for years with Darfur and Sudan speak to his values and principles, and our values and principles are the core of who we are as a person. Does George have many other facets to his person, yes of course he does just like the rest of us. I for one love these values along with his work and his sense of humor, plus he's hot. I would like to clarify that I do not claim to be in love with him, but if I ever date him I'll get back to you on that (just kidding)
The next mrs clooney- Practically on first name terms with Mr Clooney

It is not only Obama who has created laws like this. It has been going on for decades and includes both Democrat AND Republican presidents. To assume it is only being done by the current president is foolish and ignorant of the true extent of the slow erosion of the freedoms most Americans still assume they have, but do not. It began as soon as the US was placed under a state of emergency (60+ years ago) and continues today because we are still under a state of emergency.
"Fun" fact - so long as we stay under a state of emergency the powers of the legislative and congressional arms of government are broadened allowing them to create "executive orders" and other laws that they consider to be in the interest of national security - even if it means eliminating the civil rights of the citizens. Once we are no longer under a state of emergency all of the laws created while we were are null and void. All we need is a President with the balls to admit we're not actually in a state of emergency and to refuse to sign the annual statement saying we are. Unfortunately, there's to much money and power in the governments hands now and no one wants to give it up.
And I'm glad he's out by the way! I was a bit concerned when I went to bed last night.

at first
my thought was
someone 'made him' drunk
then...
would it be
the same as G?
trying to get MORE attention?
but, if real
one is 'against' the other
in stealing attention
your opinion?
