According to the Washington Post, GTC is planning to get arrested at the Sudan Embassy, in New York tomorrow.............

First there is that silly Stacy / First Lady at the White House State Dinner thing that gets out in the way it did... It was the most abominable thing to do and then this string...?? Where is Stan?? I cannot believe he is silent and letting this trend run!!!

I would assume that with the notice that is being given to the embassy, they will lock the place down and ignore the protest outside. If they aren't trying to get into the embassy, I can't imagine that the police will become involved by arresting people - they will be there for safety purposes but I really doubt George will get arrested.

It isn't in the best interest of those at the embassy to have any protestors - especially one as high profile and vocal about the situation in the Sudan as George - arrested. That then becomes a lead news story and the it keeps the media attention on them and the situation in the Sudan which they would very much like people to stop talking about. If he were to be arrested, he would be the star guest on so many tv shows and he would keep talking about what is happening there and the press would cover the story for longer.

Right watching... thanks The Sudan Situation has been volatile and is far more sensitive because of the different players involved... the layers... besides the fact that people, the masses can be used as easy targets... IT is even more delicate in the US because of the African American population and several Sudanese / others from that region who have gained on positions and have a "voice"... and can act on it if they deem fit... they are already hurt about what is being done to their people... and that is understandable...

George's visit can easily be sidelined as a "celebrity" visit, yes just like any other, IF it got handled with a sense of frivolity... and yes, he stands a greater chance of becoming scapegoat target himself!! And NO, the China factor need not be highlighted... not required... not all fact... !! And if the US foreign policy deems certain co-relation patterns irrelevant based on US security priority issues, these will also become non-existent... "Diplomacy" and the players in it, already has the facts you have George, and much more in depth than you might realize... also remember that President Obama cares for Sudan at a deeper level than you do George!!! And so my earlier notes last night... just highlight Sudan, bring it back in focus... that is all you have to do for now... with your flashing star power... Keep the rest behind closed doors!!!

They will probably ignore what is going on outside they won't do anything to cause even more bad press. And arresting George would give them lot's of bad press although it would be great for us! A mugshot and lot's of attention.

DC is the land of the protest. I remember coming off the metro (subway) once, and someone was at the top directing people saying, protest to the right, folk festival to the left.

Most the time people don't get arrested. Still I guess it is possible because the Sudanese embassy is just a row house on Mass Ave. No real gates to close like some, and if that is there intent they could be. We will see.

The right of peaceful assembly is Constitutional. They'd have to be disruptive in some fashion to warrant being taken into custody.

I'm sure Stan is involved. George wouldn't do something of this magnitude without the invovlement of his press agent. Stan probably was the author of the press release about Clooney being arrested. It's good press and keeps the attention on the issue.

Embassies are in Washington (all embassies are in the capital of every nation); George has been here since Tuesday night....and it's raining today, although 78 degrees...what a mess it's going to be!!

George Clooney, others to protest at Sudan embassy over allegations of humanitarian crisis

WASHINGTON — Actor George Clooney will highlight a protest planned for Friday at Sudan’s embassy in Washington.

The protesters accuse Sudan’s president, Omar al-Bashir, of provoking a humanitarian crisis and blocking food and aid from entering the Nuba Mountains in the county’s border region with South Sudan.

Others expected to attend the protest include Clooney’s father, Nick; NAACP President Ben Jealous; Martin Luther King III and congressmen including Virginia Democrat Jim Moran.

Another Virginia congressman, Republican Frank Wolf, returned from a trip to South Sudan last month and received reports from refugees accusing al-Bashir of orchestrating a campaign of ethnic cleansing, mass murder and rape.

As a Washington resident I would not worry too much about George. This is a place where people do come to protest, in front of Embassies or Congress or White House. If George steps in the immediate "private" area in front of the Embassy he may be "temporary" arrested (that's what he wants right?). The fact is, you can't have dinner sitting next to Michelle Obama on a Wednesday and be in jail on a Friday. It just won't happen....but it's good noise...for the cause.

In most of these protests, unless it's violent or destroys property, protesters are arrested and let go a few hours later. I don't think they are handcuffed, although sometimes they use those plastic zip cables. Should be interesting, but not dangerous as their intentions are peaceful. Since he wants to be arrested, I say he should go for it! I don't know -- the police may have to arrest protesters if they enter private property during the protest even if the property owner does not complain. I would assume it violstes the term of the protest permit, which I imagine they have gotten. I'm sure they have it planned out. If it 's up to Sudan, they should ignore it.

Nevertheless it's a good plan for him to join the protest and all we can hope is that it has some effect long term.
Also of course that he's not becoming too notorious and therefore attracts some nutter who wants their 15 minutes of fame.

from what I have read the plan is to trespass on the "private" area. It will be a peaceful protest but the fact that they are trespassing could automatically lead to them being removed by the police. I think the problem is that now this haas been publicized that George will be there there will be masses of people and paparazzi just to see him, and as we know the more people that are there the more chaotic the protest will get. this may be where the problems will start. I really hope that people who go to see George will have enough respect for him and this cause and not be party to anything getting out of control.

Was watching live stream. Nick was with George. John Prendagast was arrested at 10:43 am and George and Nick arrested at 10:46. Taken away in handcuffs. There is lots of support from attendees. Lots of police escorts. I wouldn't worry too much about George's safety. If he thought for a moment there was any danger, he wouldn't have taken his father.

For those of you that can't watch, both George and Nick were just arrested, handcuffed and taken away. All done very peacefully and respectfully. Free George!!!!!
