George and Amal Clooney 'are very solid now' as they enjoy married life and raise their three-year-old twins Ella and Alexander.

An Us Weekly insider revealed George, who turns 60 next week, 'tells anyone who’ll listen how he’s the one who hit the jackpot here, not her.'

He regards himself as 'happy and blessed' and his wife as 'extraordinary,' and they both put 'constant effort' into the marriage.

'Like any marriage, they’ve had their challenges and needed to adapt to certain situations and challenges,' the insider dished.

'It’s taken compromise, establishing boundaries and a lot of patience to keep the relationship on track but they’ve done just that.'

Before Amal he was married to Joyce Van Patten's daughter Talia Balsam from 1989 until 1993 and dated a string of names including movie star Renee Zellweger, Hee Haw alum Linda Thompson and Italian showgirl Elisabetta Canalis.

During his single days as a top Hollywood personality he famously had a beloved pet pig called Max who died in 2006 at the age of 18.

In fact Max was rumored to have caused the end of his relationship with French model Celine Balitran when she demanded that he choose either her or the pet.

The Us Weekly source said: 'He doubted for so long that he’d get to meet that soulmate he always dreamed of…but when Amal came along, everything changed. It’s no exaggeration to say she swept him off his feet.'

George and the 43-year-old high-powered attorney married in Italy in 2014 and have a home on Lake Como that they frequently visit.

However as the coronavirus lockdowns came down last year they found themselves forced to stay in one place longer and remained in America.

Their changed circumstances 'gave them the chance to hit the refresh button, spend time together as a family unit and play family without interruption.'

Last month George revealed he waited until his 50s to become a father because he was waiting to have children until 'I found the right person to have them with.'

He explained to Today show anchor Hoda Kotb: 'There are some people, their goal was: "I have to have children." Mine wasn't.'

The Ocean's Eleven heartthrob added: 'I wasn’t looking at life, going: "My life will be unfulfilled without children." I felt like I had a pretty full life,' he said.

'Then I met Amal and realized that my life had been pretty empty. And then when you throw these two kids in there, then suddenly you realize how incredibly empty it was,' he said adding that fatherhood 'fills it all up, it makes it fun.'
