Caitrina Chahin, from Loughrea, was told by her idol to be determined no matter what, when she was lucky enough to meet her at the September session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Clooney was there to give a talk on fair trial rights and the issue of judicial accountability.
Chahin, 23, who just finished her masters in International Human Rights Law at NUIG, saw first-hand that Clooney has time to inspire up and coming lawyers in their careers.
She told UTV Ireland: “I was asking her how to best go about practicing law in the international sphere and she was just saying to be determined and don't be deterred by statistics which obviously make it seem very difficult.
“She told me that when she finished university she never had a 10 year plan and that you never know what opportunities will arise.
"She recommend that I qualify as a lawyer, solicitor or barrister, while I'm still in the academic mind-set basically and then I can always go back to working for NGOs.
"And I told her I had dual citizenship so she said it would stand to me to do the New York or California bar as it doesn't take as long as it does in Ireland."
Knowing the astonishingly-successful Clooney never had a 10 year plan might come as welcome news to some unsure about their future career plans.
The acclaimed lawyer specialises in public international law, international criminal law and human rights at Doughty Street Chambers in London.
She is currently leading an international delegation attempting to secure the release of the former president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, who is being held on terrorism charges by the current government.
In January, she stood before Europe's top human rights court to represent Armenia in their case against Doğu Perinçek, the leader of the Turkish Workers’ Party, and she recently defended convicted Canadian Mohamed Fahmy in Egypt.
Galway student, Ms Chahin could not believe the busy lawyer took the time to give her some solid life advice and we're sure - with the wise words of the great Amal - a bright career awaits her.
