[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Earlier in the week, Mariska Hargitay spoke about how proud she was that Law & Order: SVU was moving into the Thursday 10pm time slot on NBC. Over the years, that spot on the schedule has been home to some of the most revered shows on network television, including Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, and ER This year marks the milestone 25th anniversary of ER’s debut; in hindsight, it’s almost laughable to realize that NBC initially didn’t have high hopes for the show. Many at the network — and plenty of pundits — thought it would be crushed by another medical show premiering in the same time slot on CBS, Chicago Hope. However, ER proved everyone wrong, dominating Thursday nights for 15 years and more than 300 episodes. It also made stars out of its young cast members, and the breakout of the bunch was George Clooney. For him, ER jumpstarted a career that had been idling for several years, as he’d been taking a long of guest-starring roles on sitcoms and bit parts in movies. After Clooney’s five seasons on the medical drama (and two Emmy Awards), Clooney was a bonafide A-lister, and he still can’t believe how fortunate he was that things turned out the way they did.
