Re: George and Amal at Met Gala
Not a fan of the pants....the dress looks like a huge bedspread. She just looks too casual..
I guess I had really high expectations..I loved the gorgeous red dress she wore the last time she attended the Met Ball, this dress/pants disappoints me.

Re: George and Amal at Met Gala
At first glance I wasn’t that crazy about Amal’s dress but I’m liking it the more pictures I see. I actually love the pant and skirt combo. It’s has an unusual elegant quality about it. If Amal was going for something striking and unique I think this fits the bill. I like that she wore her hair up. Shows offf those beautiful earrings. LOL .... She could be hiding Ella and Alexander in that skirt!
George looks fantastic. I like the tux. Fits perfectly IMO. His current haircut and beard is a great look for him. They make a stunning couple.

I like her hair up to, it's a nice changing.
The only thing I don't like about Amal's dress is the black veil underneath, but the rest of the dress is beautiful and she definitely pulled it off.

Re: George and Amal at Met Gala
A friend just sent me a picture of Rihanna at the Gala. She killed it. No guessing about how her dress/accessories follow the theme.
Trains are not unique at this affair. Pants are (on the women). Maybe Amal is going for a point about the patriarchal church? Who knows.
But check out Rihanna. (Sorry, the friend says his Rihanna pic is a personal keeper.)

I usually don't like the dresses at the Met Ball, but this year I think most of them are gorgeous. I absolutely love Amal's gown. You have to be tall to pull it off, though.

Rihanna looked amazing, she reminded me of Jude Law's pope.
But I still don't get how Amal's dress fit the theme. I hope somebody asked her.

Amal Clooney models unique outfit with FOUR FOOT floral train at Met Gala... as George jokes she's hidden the twins under there
By Heidi Parker For Dailymail.com
PUBLISHED: 23:01 BST, 7 May 2018 |
Amal Clooney made a big impression at Monday's Met Gala, which she is co-chairing with Anna Wintour, Donatella Versace and Rihanna.
The 40-year-old barrister looked stunning in a strapless gown that had a silver bustier, dark slacks and a floral train that was at least four feet long.
The beauty's date for the night was her dashing Oscar-winning husband George Clooney, who played it safe in a black tux.
The actor - who turned 57 on Sunday - joked on the red carpet that his wife had hidden twins George and Alexander under her enormous skirt.

Amal's outfit was certainly eye catching as it offered a very shiny bustier top that had no straps and came in nicely at the waist.
Designed by up and coming Brit Richard Quinn, Amal added dark slacks and heels. And for a nice pop of the unusual, the skirt was attached at the back and featured a red rose pattern over a pale blue background. There were also white Stargazers in the design.
The duo seemed inseparable on the beige carpet.

This year's event has the theme Heavenly Bodies: Fashion And The Catholic Imagination.
The night before Clooney found time to take her husband to dinner in Manhattan to celebrate his 57th birthday.
She had on a very short black romper that showed off her toned, slender legs. The power couple held hands as they stepped out of Laconda Verde in the Tribeca area of New York City.
Both smiled as if they had just had the best dinner of their life. Amal looked perfectly styled in her silky outfit with a gold belt and strappy beige heels that showed off a pretty light pink pedicure.
The cover girl added bright cherry red lipstick and had her eyebrows nicely filled in for a Kim Kardashian arch.

A good fit: The Vogue cover girl had on dark blue satin slacks that fit her perfectly and added pointy black pumps
And the star wore Narcisa Pheres tiger's eye drop earrings.
Clooney was movie star handsome as always in a black shirt and suit with matching dress shoes. The ER vet wore his grey beard nicely manicured and seemed to sport a fresh Cary Grant tan.
Earlier in the day, the Crawford-Gerber family wished the Ocean's Eleven actor well. Taking to Instagram, both supermodel Cindy Crawford, 52, and her husband Rande Gerber, 56, were quick to send their wishes to the Hollywood star on his special day.

Seen at the Met Gala in 2015 when the theme was China: Through The Looking Glass
Standing on a boat, the Ocean's Eleven actor took over driving the water taxi on the way to his film premiere The Ides Of March at the opening of the Venice 48th Film Festival in 2011.
Also taking to social media, tequila business partner Rande sent his well wishes.
'Here's to many more days like these. Happy Birthday George,' he captioned.
Both sitting on beanbag chairs, each of the men were seen holding onto a bottle of their brand while enjoying a seemingly relaxing and enviable vacation.
And with tequila seemingly the centre of the birthday celebrations, a video uploaded on the Casamigos social media page saw George enjoy some shots.
'When the bosses spend too much time in the office, this happens!' he said.
Sharing what looked to be a ski with shot glasses mounted on top, the face of Nespresso and Rande enjoyed a drink.
Known for his cheeky behavior, the end of the clip saw George pretend to pass out and fall back.
While the celebrations continue for the father of twins Ella and Alexander, 11 months, he's spent the past few weeks in Italy working on pre-production for his Hulu Catt-22 series which is set to be shot near Sardinia later this month.
However, George and wife Amal are expected to return to New York to attend Monday's annual MET Gala which the human rights and international law barrister will be co-hosting.[/size]

Amal Clooney’s Met Gala Pants (andFoil Train) Are Queen Elizabeth–Approved
MAY 8, 2018 3:07 AM
by EDWARD BARSAMIAN
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Amal Clooney made her grand return to the Met Gala as a co-chair, embodying the exhibition, Heavenly Bodies, in Richard Quinn’s majestic strapless top. Quinn was most recently awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design, and his creation for Clooney, a silver foil bustier with dramatic train, was an ethereal interpretation of this year’s theme and gala. This was the second occasion for which the human rights attorney donned a strapless design—the first was a custom crimson Maison Margiela Artisanal dress by John Galliano. But today, instead of a one-note palette, Clooney’s ensemble was infused with delicate motifs, including a floral-printed train that skimmed the floor.
Clooney’s metallic top half had a heavenly shine, while navy cigarette pants kept the look streamlined. The overwhelming train was an elegant foil to the more fitted bodice—a modern-day Mother Mary approach to evening wear. Gems by Lorraine Schwartz, including a floral statement earring, made for a look that was truly divine.

Re: George and Amal at Met Gala
The Make-up and Styling is very pretty, the outfit is not my gusto!
I don’t know how this should be a modernized interpretation of Mother Mary (does she see herself as Mother Mary?)
After all that pre-Hype around the Met Ball co chair „To Me“ a bit disappointing!
I loved Anna in Chanel and Bee‘s Valentino Outfit thou and Pryanka Chopra looked amazing.
Isn’t her sister Tala a Fashion Designer? This could have been a great opportunity for her to design Amals dress - I would have asked my sister

They both look great. I like her "gown" - reminiscent of l950's cocktail party attire for the sophisticated lady, though I don't see how it fits the theme. They described the bodice as "metallic". Could it be mylar like the balloons? It looks like it.

ps Friend says Amal's dress looks better 'live' than in the pictures, but it's "not stunning or anything." (Also says she's too skinny... but he's never liked thin women.)
I'm guessing Shailene (sp?) is going for 'Crusader.'
Rihanna still wins it, IMO.

These are the 13 most iconic Met Gala gowns of the last decade, in our humble opinion

The dress-over-pants look is polarizing, at best, but after you see Amal Clooney‘s 2018 Met Gala ensemble, we’re sure every hater will be a convert. The human-rights attorney and honorary co-chair of the event arrived on the red carpet on May 7th with her husband, George Clooney, wearing a rose-print dress by Richard Quinn cut out at the front to reveal a pair of navy satin pants beneath. The look was polished and poised — like Amal — and captured the essence of the event’s theme, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”
Florals, of course, feature heavily in Catholic imagery — the Virgin Mary is often pictured with roses, as is the Virgen de Guadalupe.Clooney’s Met Gala gown features a dramatic, flower-print train, as well as flowers at the center of her metallic bustier.
Take a look at the gown’s stunning train.

Stunning.
The Met Gala is fashion’s biggest night, hosted by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and celebrated at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This year’s event was “designed to create a dialogue between fashion and the masterworks of religious art in the museum’s holdings,” according to Vogue, and is also being co-hosted by Rihanna and designer Donatella Versace.

Re: George and Amal at Met Gala
I think this is the best dressed Met Gala I've seen. Most of the gowns were beautiful and beautifully made. Giulianna Rancic said that Rihanna's dress should be made part of the Met's permanent collection and I agree. The workmanship on it was incredible!
After seeing some of the gowns that came later, Amal's seems very simple. It's the fabric that makes it pop.

Re: George and Amal at Met Gala
Regarding Amal’s rose printed skirted gown .... Roses hold spiritual significance in religious faiths. Associated with the Greek and Roman goddesses of love, rose imagery passed into Greek versions of the Old Testament. According to an ancient saint the roses in the Garden of Eden grew thorns only after man’s fall from grace, as a reminder of human sin and guilt. Lots of rose imagery shows up through early Christianity. I didn’t know any of this. I googled it.
I agree. I thought there were a number of beautiful gowns at this year’s event. Thought Blake Lively’s was pure drama. She carried it off really well. Jasmine Sanders (don’t know who she is) wore a very elegant gold gown. Loved her braided hair with flowers intertwined. Tho not as striking but simply elegant ... Uma Thurman and Livia ?(married to Colin Firth). Rosie Huntington-Whitely’s gown too. Then there was Frances McDormand and Katy Perry. They were standouts too.

Yeah, I think this year has to be one of the best - most people seemed to at least try to follow the theme. I also loved Blake Lively's dress, and Arianna Grande.
This was one of those events where it is simply not possible to be overdressed.
Amal's hitting a number of the best dressed lists of the night, although her dress was almost a little low-key compared to others which isn't something I ever thought I'd say about a floral tin-foil caped bodice! Loved her hair up.

Re: George and Amal at Met Gala
Thanks Donnamarie I had no idea about the rose's but that makes sense. She isn't religious so it makes sense she didn't go over board with the religious symbols.
I think Cindy always looks the damn same she simply wore a version of her other red gown. I give props too those who
at least tried to go with the theme.
It does seem like more people tried to go with the theme this year.
Come on it is a costume gala go for it and have fun , you can wear a regular evening gown anytime.

Re: George and Amal at Met Gala
IMO you can always interpret a theme like this in many different ways. There were dresses made from cloth printed with religious pictures like Salma Hayek or Arianna Grande. Others accessorized them with crucifixes or religious headpieces. Dresses like Rihanna's, Sarah Jessica Parker's or Kate Perry's I would describe as costumes or pieces of art (and I also wonder if they wore them the whole night, I can't imagine that Kate Perry was able to sit down at all...
About Amal's dress: When I first saw it, I paused for a moment because it's so unusual to see a woman dressed in trousers for such an event but like Donna, I really like it. There are pics of her where you don't see her trousers at all, so it simply looks like a voluminous robe. I've no idea about the designer's intention on this dress, but my interpretation would be that priests wear dresses / robes and wear trousers underneath (well, hopefully they do...).

I'd like to give props to the woman who got all dressed up so she could straighten out Amal's train for half the night.
I just took a look at the pictures here (I'd only been looking at snaps my friend was sending me). Several noteworthy and truly theme-inspired looks. Seems like something most people had a little fun with.
Hate to say it, but I loved Tom Brady's tux.

The meaning of the Rose's on Amals dress
ROSE: In Catholic symbolism, the red rose is a symbol of Martyrdom, while the white rose is a symbol of purity since the earliest years of Cthe Church. St. Ambrose relates how the rose came to have thorns. Before it became one of the flowers of the earth, the rose grew in Paradise without thorns. Only after the fall of man did the rose take on its thorns to remind man of the sins he had committed and his fall from grace; whereas its fragrance and beauty continued to remind him of the splendor of Paradise. It is probably in reference to this that the Virgin Mary is called a 'rose without thorns,' because she was exempt from Original Sin.

Re: George and Amal at Met Gala
This is why Amal Clooney was the only celeb to wear trousers at the Met Gala 2018
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]By[size=16]Penny Goldstone[/size]May 8, 2018 12:46 pmIt's pretty symbolic
While everyone was talking about Rihanna’s Pope-tastic outfit and Katy Perry’s angelic wings at the Met Gala 2018, others were wondering why Amal Clooney was wearing trousers, and whether she was actually on theme (which was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, FYI).
Well, while a little more subtle than the likes of Solange and Blake Lively’s dresses, Amal’s choice was actually pretty powerful.
It was designed by Richard Quinn, who lest we forget had the actual Queen on his front row at London Fashion Week.
First off, there are the trousers, which are symbolic in themselves. Richard Quinn said in a statement, ‘Her decision to wear trousers was her way of depicting female empowerment and modern religion by referencing the stringent oppression that women faced. Amal is recognised for her work in international law and human rights so it was important to us that her look made a statement and reinforced the amazing work that she does.’
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Photo: Rex
Others argued that the floral print on her bustier weren’t in keeping with the religious theme, but again, there was a secret meaning to it.
‘Amal wanted to include roses and lilies in the print because of their religious iconographies. The rose is an icon of veneration in the pre-Christian era, and was used in ancient Rome to symbolize devotion to the goddess Venus, and it was important to Amal that the print subtly referenced religion so we used heavy brush marks to mimic the look of a stain glass window on a beautifully detailed print,’ the designer revealed.
Easily missed, but powerful once you know it.

Re: George and Amal at Met Gala
I kind of always knew it but this cements things in my head....AMAL CLOONEY HAS A PASSION FOR FASHION....
The Met: Amals outfit is pure 50's/60's ....known as "Ball Skirt over Cigerette Pants"....She has completed the look beautifully with the fabled Hi-Pony hair style.....Sorry PAN her hair is not in what would be considered an up-do, but you are right it looks good and proves that she can wear an up-do.....
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
IF the the theme had been "fashion of the 1950's starlets"....she would have nailed it in so many ways.....
I think her designer let her down, it was his job to take the dress she liked the best and with a feather touch gently integrate the THEME of the night.....
All designers spend years interpreting the theme of the clients occassion....
The Red Dress she wore to previous Met was spot on...unless asked nobody would have been aware of the symbolism of the Terracota Army rivots on the bodice.....
Being the host it was essencial to have that connection to theme....it was missing.....
The bodice again would be the easiest....So easy to have swirled 30 pieces of silver on to the silver bodice.....The print is NOT enough....We are talking Catholic here not religion as per...
The Catholic religion is rich in vibrancy and design....I saw little evidence of it last night.... for crying out loud NO Jesus sandles and very little Virgin Mary Blue.....
Stand out fashion look for me always has to be Commercial and a "Trend in the Making"......Priyanka Chopra (?) bought a Crusaders Look to head accessories.....I likey!!!!.....Zendaya's all out Joan of Arc not so much BUT 10/10 for theme-spirtaion....
I'm giving Amal 8.5/10....She drops a point for no relation to theme....She drops a point for uneven drama, the top could be a sundress.....BUT she picks up .5 for commiting to the fifties in one great look.....Just not for this event......
apologies if spelling is awful...I'm in a rush....

I'm not trying to be critical.. just observant...... neither look all that happy when being questioned by the press on the stairs, at one point George looks rather pissed. Considering it was Amal's night to shine... he did pretty much all the talking and she looked almost annoyed at having to deal with speaking press.benex wrote:[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I notice the same thing about the press. Basically, George handled it all. I don't think he look pissed, he was distracted, trying to understand where Amal was.
About the gown, every woman in a gown has always been helped by people on the red carpet. At the same Met, different people where helped, like it always happens.

As for the gown help if the dress is that long you need help it has to be placed correctly for the pictures and she couldn't do it
by herself. George even says this is not the easiest thing to maneuver.
As for the train these are the events you should wear them . It's not like you can wear a gown like that everyday.

I think the "train wranglers" were the most distracting thing on the red carpet. I don't know if they undergo any training, but half the time they were blocking the cameras the women were posing for.
