Larry King asked Clooney if he believes in God. He dodged it at first but King pressed and he said he doesn’t happen to be a believer.
That’s OK George. I don’t need a church wedding. I’ll settle for a quick ‘I do’ before a judge. We can choose a judge who also does not believe in God. How about that? Are we on?

Would G be considered an Atheists or an Agnostic

I would hope that George is an Agnostic rather than an Atheist, Sisieq. I can't, or don't want to believe that he doesn't believe in any higher being. I am not Catholic, but could the Sisters at his school or even the priests turned him away from God? Or has Hollywood done this? Or is it just not fashionable to say out loud that you believe in God?

I'm going with this one. However, does anyone remember in an old interview G saying he would ask questions when younger and the priests would not like his questions? I have to think his parents do worry (in private) about his lost faith.

I've heard George say things like 'God knows' or such idioms in his interviews. I don't think atheists or Agnostics use the word 'God' when they speak. He's certainly not a religious person, I don't think, but maybe spiritual? Or has spiritual beliefs?

I think "God knows" is just an expression. Everyone uses it, irrespective of their beliefs.

My feeling is that he rebelled against his parents' strict beliefs and I'd put him more in the agnostic side of the fence.

If I ever find that Letterman interview, I'll post it here so we can hear what he really said - plus, we have to remember that people change their opinions over the years and I'm not sure how old that interview is.

George has said Christ! in taped conversations. If he's an atheist, why use this word or any that refers to God or any reference to hell? Even Damn! indicates that there is a God who can send a person to hell.

Many agnostics that I know use all those expressions to curse when they're angry. I've only known 1 or 2 who have said outright they're atheists and even they have said Jesus Christ when angry. Since these folks were close enough acquaintances or friends that we had exchanged religious beliefs, I've asked why they used the name or power of a deity they didn't believe in. Why not yell Chair or Tree? None of them had a good answer as to why. Most thought it was a stupid question and no-one had an answer. Only one atheist said "Good point" but then added "I'm not going to stop swearing so just accept it."

Ada that is an amazing point you made and it's truly too bad that none of them took the time to examine WHY they say it when they clearly don't believe. Your point was well taken and beautifully put to them, maybe some day down the road one of them might ponder the why and who knows from there...
