It’d just be nice to see the studio focus on its strengths, which clearly lie with adult-skewing movies — especially this year, when Paramount could find itself back in the awards race with a pair of Matt Damon movies in George Clooney’s Suburbicon and Alexander Payne’s Downsizing.
After robbing Las Vegas blind in Ocean’s Eleven, Clooney and Damon returned to the scene of the crime to tub-thump their dark comedy and make a few jokes at the other’s expense. Clooney asked Damon what it was like to be directed by Batman, and Damon said he completely forgot Clooney had played the Caped Crusader, though the Batsuit’s rubber nipples were firmly etched in his memory. Clooney suggested that he himself must be a superhero, since he starred in Batman and Robin and still has a career in showbiz.
What we saw from Suburbicon was impressive. It looks like Damon’s character hatches a plan to kill his wife (or something like that) for the insurance money, only his young son finds out, throwing a wrench in his plan. Julianne Moore co-stars as his wife, while Oscar Isaac plays an insurance investigator who senses that something is rotten in Denmark. A closing moment of Damon making a getaway on an undersized bicycle scored big laughs from the audience, which seemed to relish the film’s throwback vibe. It all felt very Coen brothers, which makes sense, considering they co-wrote the script with Clooney and his producing partner Grant Heslov.

Re: George Clooney at CinemaCon presenting Suburbicon
The CinemaCon audience was welcomed to Suburbicon, getting the first peek at a trailer for George Clooney's latest directorial project.
During Paramount's presentation, Clooney and his film’s stars Matt Damon and Julianne Moore were in attendance to introduce the new footage Tuesday in Las Vegas. “We knocked over a few casinos here, haven’t we?” said Clooney to laughs from the audience. He and his stars charmed the crowd with plenty of jokes. Clooney asked Damon, “What was it like to be directed by Batman?,” with Damon responding that he’d almost forgotten that Clooney even played that role.
The upcoming film, set for release on Nov. 3, has a script by the Coen Brothers, and the first footage showed off their signature quirkiness paired with a dark and violent tone.
Suburbicon's first trailer shows Moore as a picturesque blonde housewife who is being asked questions by an investigator (Oscar Isaac). The questions relate to a life insurance policy, and Isaac's character is suspicious about the death it involves. Damon plays a bespectacled, buttoned-up man whose wife appears have to died in a crime, but there’s more to the story than he’s telling. The trailer gets progressively more violent, including a car bursting into flames while Damon’s character rides off on a kid’s tricycle.

Matt Damon, Julianne Moore Prove a Dangerous Duo in George Clooney’s ‘Suburbicon’ Footage
CinemaCon 2017: Clooney personally introduces the drama with his two stars
Beatrice Verhoeven | March 28, 2017 @ 5:14 PM
Paramount Pictures showcased George Clooney’s “Suburbicon” on Tuesday — which will release in the awards strike zone this year — and Clooney himself introduced the footage with stars Julianne Moore and Matt Damon at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
Damon and Moore play in-laws who share a dead woman in common – her twin, his former wife — and Oscar Isaac is a detective who finds something very fishy about the way she met her demise.
The period piece has a very noirish feel with some comedy wedged in — Damon took a brutal punch to the nose, and Moore sits for an excruciating and clever interrogation from Isaaac.
“Suburbicon” is set in the quiet family town of Suburbicon, where the best and worst of humanity is hilariously reflected through the deeds of seemingly ordinary people. When a home invasion turns deadly, a picture-perfect family turns to blackmail, revenge and betrayal.
Joel and Ethan Coen wrote the script alongside Clooney, and the film is being produced by Joel Silver of Silver Pictures, Teddy Schwarzman of Black Bear, and Clooney and Grant Heslov of Smokehouse Pictures.

The actor was doing double-duty during the Paramount presentation, returning to the stage with director Alexander Payne to introduce the first footage of Downsizing.
The audience was shown about 10 minutes of footage for the film, which is based in a world where people have the option to be shrunk down and lives their lives on a smaller scale.
In the clip, a mini-man (Neil Patrick Harris) introduces a group to his life in a mini-mansion. In his home, his wife (Laura Dern) is enjoying a bath in her mini-tub, with her mini-diamonds.
One couple in the group (Damon and Kristen Wiig) are interested in the option of being shrunk down and are listening to the sales pitch. Apparently when you’re shrunk down, money goes a lot further, and so it offers the opportunity for a better life.
The footage showed Damon’s character going through the process of being shrunk down as well (which required having all your facial hair shaved off). The 10 minutes of footage got a strong applause from the audience.

Re: George Clooney at CinemaCon presenting Suburbicon
George Clooney’s “Suburbicon” is probably not what you’re expecting after his last few directorial efforts. The movie is set in what appears to be the 1950’s (although in theory it could be the late ‘40s) and the extended preview began with Roger (Oscar Isaac), an insurance claim investigator, interviewing Margaret (Julianne Moore), a seemingly demure housewife with a visible roots from a bad dye. Something tragic has happened and it immediately becomes clear that Margret and her brother-in-law Gardner (Matt Damon) are covering it up. Margaret appears to be pretending to be her now deceased sister and her niece and Clooney lets us in that her nephews realize something is up. Gardner meanwhile is becoming increasingly stressed about it and in one bizarrely hilarious scene seems to be attempting to escape a police officer’s car on a kid’s bicycle (how Clooney decided to reveal what Damon is riding turns out to be very smart and funny filmmaking).
The footage featured an A-level performance from Moore who seems to have a major character arc as she deals with this deception that she might not have wanted to be a part of. Damon is showing shades of his “Informant” character, but it still seemed to work from what was shown. It’s clearly a dark comedy and you can tell the influences of the Coen Brothers who co-wrote the screenplay with Clooney and his longtime collaborator Grant Heslov. Of course that pair are no strangers to kooky dark comedy themselves (“The Men Who Stare At Goats,” “Leatherheads,” etc.) so is it fair to think it felt a bit “too” Coen? That might be a question for Paramount’s marketing department. That aspect can help sell the movie, but there was enough shown that was not in that style to indicate it might be a false stylistic narrative. Or not.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Damon engaged in far more effective banter with hisSuburbicon director George Clooney fuelled by a November 3 release date that pits the dark comedy against Disney’s Thor: Ragnarok.
Julianne Moore joined the pair on stage and teased Damon about his height before the latter turned the tables on his director and poked fun at his suit in Batman.
Clooney introduced entertaining first footage from the film, which Clooney co-wrote with the Coen brothers and Grant Heslov. “It’s a film about a lot of flawed people making some really bad choices along the way,” he said. Bloom handles international sales on Suburbicon.

Julianne Moore, Matt Damon Love George Clooney As A Director
By KATE MORAWETZ. 1 hour ago

George Clooney charmed CinemaCon audiences alongside Julianne Moore and Matt Damon this week, debuting new footage from his passion project “Suburbicon”.
The film, set to hit theatres November 3, was penned by the Coen Brothers and directed by Clooney. The filmmaker, actor and first time father-to-be tells Matte Babel what it was like bringing the film to life.
“I dusted it off a couple of years ago, and found it when looking for a good script to direct,” Clooney says. “[I] called up the boys, the Coen Brothers and asked them if it was alright if I took a spin with it and they said ‘take a run.'”
RELATED: George Clooney Meets With One Of His Oldest Fans
On why he hunted for the 30-year-old screenplay, Clooney says, “You can make a bad film out of a good script, but you can’t make a good film out of a bad script.” Adding, “it’s a long search for finding good words.”
Clooney, who’s expecting twins this spring with wife Amal, was surprised by a gift on the red carpet.
Meanwhile, Clooney’s cast describes him with “good words” when asked about his talents as a director.
“He was great, he honestly was fantastic,” “Suburbicon” star Julianne Moore reveals of Clooney. “He was very supportive, he’s always prepared. he’s got a great vision for what he wants to accomplish …days were short,” she jokes.
At this time not a lot is known about the film, other than what audiences saw at CinemaCon. The trailer reportedly centres around a picturesque blonde housewife being interrogated about the events surrounding a life insurance policy and the suspicious death it involves.
Clooney and Moore tease a spoiler (of sorts) regarding her character, saying “she plays twins.” It remains to be seen how that will be twisted into the dark storyline, but there’s decidedly more known about Moore’s co-star in the film, Matt Damon.
RELATED: George Clooney Gets Political: ‘Do Not Let Hate Win’
Seen in the trailer as a bespectacled, buttoned-up man, whose wife died in a crime, it seems Damon’s character is followed by increasing violence. There’s a part in the trailer where a car bursts into flames and his character rides off on a kid’s trike.
Damon doesn’t give up any details about his character, but he does mirror Moore’s words about his friend, Clooney, and his directorial talents.
“He’s alright,” Damon jokes to Matte, adding, “he’s a really brilliant director, I hate to say it because he seems to have everything going for him.”

Katie, there's an Instagram video posted by benex that was removed.
I'm asking if it's the same video.

Re: George Clooney at CinemaCon presenting Suburbicon
George Clooney Is Still Fun, But the Father-to-Be Has Less Time for Pranks
George Clooney is a legend for pulling pranks on his co-stars. One of his most infamous jokes was hatched on Matt Damon when he had his wardrobe taken in by an eighth of an inch every day while making The Monuments Men because he knew Damon was trying to lose weight.
Damon was left baffled, thinking he was gaining pounds despite spending so much time at the gym.
But it seems Clooney's prankster days may be slowing down. Damon said Clooney behaved while they were making the upcoming Suburbicon.
"I don't think he did anything to me this time, which makes me nervous because that means that something might happen," Damon tells me. "But I think because, you know, he had such huge changes in his own life, he has less time now."

Is married life and pending fatherhood getting in the way?
"He can still definitely be fun, but he just has less time, you know what I mean?" Damon explained. "When he was single and we were doing Ocean's Eleven that dude had nothing to do, but plot ways to pull pranks on people. But now he's got a full time job and a full time family. I mean, that's a lot."
For the record, Damon said he doesn't know if Clooney will make an appearance in the all-female Ocean's Eight. The Good Will Hunting actor has already confirmed he'll be popping up in the much anticipated flick starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter and Awkwafina.
Pranks or no pranks, Damon gushed about being directed again by Clooney. "He really really knows his stuff. I mean he has been nominated for every award there is, and for a good reason," he said. "He is really really on his game, and that makes it fun because you kind of show up, and he's done all of the hard work, and you just kind of get to play around."
Suburbicon co-star Julianne Moore also praised Clooney. "I'd like to make a joke, but I can't make one because honestly he was fantastic," she said. "We had a great time and a lot freedom on set."
Suburbicon is set for release from Paramount Pictures on Nov. 3.
