An internationally renowned human rights lawyer at the top of her career, her performance in court and her fine brain were all she was judged on.



Then she fell in love with an American film star called George Clooney.


A year on from their whirlwind engagement and wedding, this clever and thoughtful woman has been swept along by a tsunami of celebrity fascination, culminating in her being granted the ultimate 'accolade' of being referred to in glossy magazines as simply 'Amal'.

It took Kylie, Beyonce and Posh decades to achieve that.


She's continued working since becoming Mrs Clooney, representing Greece's fight for the return of the Elgin Marbles from Britain.


But there's a sting in the tail. This week, Amal was on the cover of Grazia magazine under the headlines 'Amal Under Pressure?' and 'Sudden Fame Taking Its Toll . . . Struggling To Be Mrs Clooney'.


It repeated earlier claims on U.S. website Radar Online that she weighed little over seven stone and was a 'walking skeleton'.



U.S. Star magazine claimed there were 'fears for scary-skinny Amal'.

Unpleasant, yes, but even Amal's greatest admirers cannot ignore the fact she seems to be disappearing before our eyes.


Even on her wedding day, the white trouser suit she wore billowed in the wind to reveal a woman who had shrivelled in the half-year before she tied the knot to Mr Clooney.


Why? Amal is not a vacuous pop star nor some WAG whose entire existence depends on being photographed on red carpets with the correct circumference of thigh.


I fear she has become the victim of the invidious pressure most women in the public eye seem to be falling victim to these days: that the only way to be seen as truly successful is to not only be super-glamorous, but super-skinny, too.
After the honeymoon, she went back to work, not in a lawyer's sensible suits, but in the expensive couture of a Hollywood A-lister.

And each time her super-toned, gazelle-like limbs were on show.


Like many clever, famous women, Amal has shrunk as the scrutiny of every outfit, every pair of shoes, every handbag has increased.


She is not alone. Earlier this week, we saw a much reduced Emily Blunt on the red carpet in Cannes.



She wasn't scary-skinny, but seems to be heading in that direction. Where has gone that full-figured woman who won our hearts in The Five-Year Engagement?


Then there was talented singer-songwriter Taylor Swift.

A decade later and she's as thin as a broomstick. She looks as though she's taken the straightening tongs not just to her hair but to her entire body.


What is behind this determination to be thin? Having conquered the legal world, does Amal want to the first among women as well, an alpha female always in control?


Or has becoming the bride of a sought-after bachelor made her insecure? Perhaps being model-thin is her way of saying: 'He's mine. I'm good enough for him. Hands off.'


While most modern women will openly scoff at such a notion, an honest conversation with our inner selves may lead us to the uncomfortable conclusion that it is actually women who put other women under pressure to be thin.
How often have we secretly (or meanly with a girlfriend) denigrated a woman's success by thinking we are somehow superior because we're slimmer?



Let's not forget the way Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana were pitched against each other, when they married into the Royal Family.


The world sneered at the Duchess of Pork while gazing adoringly up at Diana, who by the time she wed Charles in 1981 had become scary-skinny.


But perhaps Diana holds the key to Amal's startling weight loss.



Maybe it's not power she's seeking, but instead is suffering from a sense of powerlessness.


It can't be easy for any woman who goes from an unknown to being thrown into the spotlight by marrying one of the most famous men on earth.

That's enough to make any woman hyper-sensitive about the way she looks.


We worry incessantly about our appearance, often leading to eating disorders, as it did with Diana. 
When she was snapped in a see-through skirt at the kindergarten where she worked, she had a healthy, gorgeous, curvy figure.



Like Amal, by her wedding day she had lost stones in weight.


In both cases we put it down to pre-nuptial jitters. Most of us get skinny for our big day. But who of us would have the confidence to let the weight creep back to normal if we were photographed every time we stepped outside the front door? Very few I suspect.


My hope for Amal is that this scary-skinny phase is a passing one and she'll relax into her marriage and return to the lovely, wonderfully winsome creature whom Clooney fell in love with.


She doesn't need to be an alpha female competing with other women. She's already won the jackpot.

Is Amal Clooney Too Thin? Experts Estimate She Weighs Only 100 Pounds!

We love Amal Clooney. She is gorgeous, extremely intelligent and has the best looking arm-candy in Hollywood — but recent photos of her have her admirers a bit worried.

The British beauty and international attorney may have lost a bit of weight for her wedding to hunky actor George Clooney — as any bride would — but it seems like she's gotten thinner and thinner since. Is the stress of her sudden fame taking a toll?
According to Radar Online, experts say that Amal currently weighs as little as 100 pounds! She was even referred to as a "walking skeleton."

A source told Star Magazine, “[Amal] has always been a lean woman, but she seems to have dropped more pounds — weight she couldn’t afford to lose, since meeting George.
"Everyone is concerned that she is getting totally run-down between dealing with her humanitarian legal work and jet-setting with her husband,” the source added.

Yes, ok.  She's lost weight since she first came into the pubic eye.  What of it?  If you imagine how much weight your average bride loses, just to look good for the big day, then think that Amal is, in effect, having a 'big day' almost every week I can see how and why the weight has gone.  I think she looked better before (she was slim then) but that's just my opinion and of no interest or relevance to her.

You also read about her "toned" legs (or pins, for those across the pond). Charlotte Tilbury (Amal's make-up artist for the wedding weekend...and more) stated in an Entrrtainment Tongiht interview that she also contoured Amal's legs. We can only guess at what's an illusion or what's real?

Another puzzle: when has Emily Blunt ever been full-figured?

This is all wasted breath on the part of the media.  They attack a lot of celebrity women and try to make a mountain out of molehill.  Angie Jolie was criticized endlessly for a time regarding her figure.  She's still alive and well and living her life despite the I'm sure dire predictions she was going to waste away to nothing.

Right - Emily Blunt has never been full figured.  There are many very slim celebrities who are doing just fine despite supposedly starving themselves into oblivion.
And  there is absolutely nothing wrong if a woman who to others seems like she's at a good weight to want to lose weight to suit herself.  That's her business.

I don't agree with that at all.  Im not sure what contouring was done to Amal's legs.  She has had quite toned legs before she even got married.  If she had some makeup applied to her legs for certain outfits during the wedding weekend that does not qualify their wedding as a freak show.

I'm feeling very frustrated at the complete inability of some of you on this forum to admit that something could be wrong with her weight. Remember that the camera adds a good 10 pounds on you. She doesn't appear to have an ounce of fat on her. You need a certain amount of fat for your vital organs to work, and women have more working parts than men do! Just because Angelina is this thin doesn't make it right. I've never personally seen anyone this thin who didn't have an eating disorder or who wasn't very ill. This is extreme. This goes beyond just a slender frame. No one is putting her down, hating on her, or jealous. This simply isn't healthy, just as someone who weighs 300 pounds isn't healthy. There are many valid reasons for her to be this thin, but that doesn't mean it's OK.

It is not a fact that the camera adds 10 pounds to your figure. I don't think Amal's slender frame is extreme at all.  She is very slim but I suspect her vital organs are working just fine.  Yes, there are valid reasons for her being this slim.  She chooses to look this way.  That there are other people who see her as being anorexic well that's their opinion.   If she truly has a problem then the people who love her will support her and take care of her.  I'm not in denial over her weight loss since she met George but I am hard pressed to draw the conclusion that she has an eating disorder because of the changes in her life.  I think it's incredulous for any of us to think there is something terribly wrong with her without knowing anything about her personally.

I give up. I won't even try to post here anymore. This forum  has become almost cult-like with George/Amal worship where any opinion that is the slightest bit less than positive gets shut down. I would love to go to your happy place but I've lived in the real world too long.

Why isn't OK?  It's her body and her life. She can be and do whatever she wants with both, and no one should harass, bully or try to body shame her.

It's sad that people can't accept that we all come in different shapes and sizes.


Being very thin doesn't mean someone is unhealthy. I know men and women who are very thin and very, very healthy. It's their genetics. I had someone in my family. For years she went to doctors to try and gain weight and nothing worked,  she never put more than a few pounds and lose them quickly when she was more busy. She hates being skinny, but she has come to terms with the fact that she will always be very thin and will always have to deal with people saying the same things you just said, that she has "eating disorder or is very ill". When they don't say worse things, like she is a drug addict lol

I don't know much about Amal, she is taller than Angelina and she looks thinner than her. But maybe like Angelina, Amal weight is genetic. It's a pitty Amal hasn't got any kids lol they would be the proof of that. Angelina 2nd daughter Shiloh has the exact same body type as her mother. Very thin, with very thin long, bony arms and legs, with all their weight concentrated on the upper part.

As I just said I don't know much about Amal, but wouldn't "worry" about her, obviously she is in good health. No one that is ill or has a eating disorder, that causes very serious and different health problems, can have a normal life, specially when it's a busy one, and not showing.

For example, anorexia, besides causing tiredness, lack of energy, infertility, heart problems etc has very visible signs like heavy white, thin hair on face and body. Prevents people from have an active normal life, and will put them on a hospital bed or kill them.

It's sad that Amal has to deal with this bullshit, but she is lucky because the media wont spent almost 25 years, like they did  Angelina writing about her body lol. Hopefull she is someone like Angelina, self confident and someone that doesn't give a shit about what others think or say about her.

This reminds me of some extras that were in Angelina film Unbroken,  to play prisoners of war. It was touching to read some of their comments. Some said that finally their extreme thinness was good for something, besides being made fun off and called names.

premiere, you are not alone here in your opinion of Amal's weight.  Im sure there are others who support your argument.  I don't.  As it has been pointed out to me on several occasions everyone is entitled to their opinion and to voice it here but assume there will be those who disagree with your opinion.  Amal in general draws a lot of controversy on COH.  There are huge disagreements over her as a person, her dress, her work and her weight.  I don't agree that our views here are cult-like.  I think for the most part we try to be fair in our perceptions of both George and Amal. But we don't know them personally.  I think it's only fair IMO to give them the benefit of the doubt unless there's real evidence to the contrary.

IMO Celebitchy is as its name implies.  Credibility is not its strong suit.

Celebitchy is a gossip site, that publishes and discusses tabloid bullshit stories. I can't imagine how anyone can have interesting and thoughtful discussions about tabloid stories, unless is to speak of all the wrong in tabloid press. Tabloid stories are stupid, badly written and not true.  

They are not even good for a laugh, how stupid tabloids are. Stupid and boring, as the stories are always the same.

And tabloids are the most misogynistic of the press, they relentlessly try to attack, bully, humiliate women.

Ok, I'll bite.

Show me where your opinion has been "shut down".  Fine, so some posters didn't agree with you, but they did it in a nice, polite and respectful way.  What exactly is the problem with that?

Coming back on topic, yes, I think Amal is unhealthily skinny.  I would guess that if she's not in the grip of an eating disorder, she's pretty close to it.  Yep, sure she's always been thin and I'd guess that's her natural genetic makeup, but since the wedding, she's become stick like and I really don't think this is 'normal for her'.  This is, of course, just my opinion and doesn't amount to anything of importance.  As long as she's living her life happily, then what I think of her weight is irrelevant. Not to mention none of my business.
