I just read the posts here as I'm watching the news, so I turned the channel to CBS and bam there's Charlie saying that he had sat down with George recently and talked to him at One World Trade.

i just saw the first part of the interview.  There will be a second part tomorrow.  Really nice chat between the two. After the interview this morning Charlie was saying to Norah O'Donnell that he recently had dinner with George and Amal and couldn't get over that they were actually holding hands during dinner. Even Charlie was like "wow".  Maybe I need to get married.  Sweet.

Very nice interview he and Charlie are good friends.

George Clooney talks love, life and "Tomorrowland"

On Wednesday, "CBS This Morning" will be the first television program to broadcast from atop the skyscraper.

He's giving a lot of details now but do we really need to know the music that was playing when he proposed and her reactions etc? Personally I think it's too private. But apparently there's no stopping him! By the time he finishes the whole press tour, we'll now everything!

I think he is answering the questions he is asked and it is nice to hear. George will never tell everything but little details are fine I love to hear other people's proposal stories.

Were not used to George sharing about his relationships.  He was always pretty coy talking about the women in his life.  It's wonderful that he talks about Amal the way he is doing now.  He'll share just what he wants to.  I love hearing him talk about life with his wife.

I think George and Amal knew people wanted to know since their relationship came out of the blue. He also knows that this was going to be the interest of the press so why not answer and get it over with. He is happy and that is wonderful to see.

I think he's just trying to answer all the questions this press tour and get them out of the way....I'm sure it will be a lot less next time around and subsequently after that.

For the first time in his life he feels able to talk -if not shout from the rooftops! - about a relationship.

That alone speaks volumes.

Tuned into Charlie Rose  tonight and it was the  full interview with George.  It was by far the best of any interviews I've seen with George in the last few weeks.  Charlie is the best. He touched on all the important aspects of George's life and I especially enjoyed hearing George talk at length about his involvement in and perspective of his work in Africa.  Terrific!

Melbert - THANK YOU! I tuned in, but somehow managed to miss the segment with George - I'm so glad you posted it. It's one of his best interviews in a long time. He and Charlie Rose always have such great, grown-up conversations - maybe because they're longtime friends and Charlie doesn't need to ask all those silly "Who are you wearing?" kinds of questions. Thanks again!

A little trivia.  I was watching the Clooney/Heslov commentary for the Ides of March.  Charlie does a cameo in the film interviewing George's character on the Rose show.  The table that they used on the set of the movie Charlie liked so much that he asked George if he could use it for his Washington DC set. Charlie had been looking for a table similar to the one he uses on his NY set and he hadn't found one he liked as much as the one on the Ides set.

There's a body-language theory that when a person is lying they look down and to the left. I just realized that that's exactly what George does the whole time he's telling Charlie about the proposal. The rest of the interview he looks Charlie right in the eye. Interesting.

That body language theory isn't so cut and dried: you need to know the person you're talking to pretty well to be able to apply it.  The theory is that when you look in one direction, you're thinking about the feelings of the event, whereas when you look in another direction, you're seeing the event in your mind's eye.  The lying theory came about when some person decided that the people visualising something must be lying (because they're making it up as they're speaking, therefore 'seeing' it) but that doesn't hold water because it depends on how people think about things.  Some people when remembering an event will visualise it again while others will think about it in a different way.  Therefore, to know if someone's lying, you need to ask them a lot of questions that you already know the answer to, to learn what they do with their body language when recalling a real event.

I'm not saying that he isn't lying - I personally subscribe to the theory that he's exaggerated the story for humorous effect - but unless you know George's body language well, there's no way of telling. He might well be a visual person and therefore not lying. Or the bugger could be lying through his teeth!

My impression  was that he was embellishing the story a bit to make it funny and maybe still thinking what to say that would keep some of it private.

Yes, you see a lot of that with him. Another thing you see with George's body language when he gets a little uncomfortable is he puts his hand around his mouth. Again, that's associated with lying but isn't quite so direct: it's a sign that a person is uncomfortable with what they're saying (or about to say) and is physically trying to stop the words coming out. It doesn't mean they're actually lying, although that's often a sign, just that what's being said isn't something they necessarily want to be saying.
