George Clooney and his wife Amal held court at the bar inside Cipriani in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday night when they met a friend for a drink before dinner.
The 37-year-old human rights lawyer - born Alamuddin - looked every bit the blushing bride in her high-collared white dress.
The two-time Oscar winner - who turns 54 next month - chatted with friends in his signature black suit and white dress shirt.

Perhaps the charismatic Monuments Men director wanted to make sure the Italian eatery was well stocked with his tequila brand, Casamigos.
And the couple clearly love Italian venues and especially this one.
The newlyweds of seven months hosted their September 26 wedding rehearsal dinner at the Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice.
Since settling down in the Big Apple, George and Amal have been spotted enjoying fine-dining dinner dates out at Babbo, Kappo Masa, Scalinatella, Patsy's, and Café Boulud. 
And Amal had lunch at Morandi one day.

However, going within 100m of the Gravity actor's Lake Como villa in Italy is now illegal and will cost fans about $546 in fines.
The British-Lebanese barrister - whose new style guru is Anna Wintour - has been keeping busy as visiting professor at Columbia Law School.
And Clooney has been filming Jodie Foster's crime thriller Money Monster at Kaufman Studios in Long Island.  



In it, the four-time Golden Globe winner plays a pompous financial guru named Lee Gates, who is taken hostage on his TV show by an outraged viewer.
Money Monster also stars Oscar winner Julia Roberts, Unbroken's Jack O'Connell, The Affair's Dominic West, and Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito.
It will be the fifth collaboration between George and Julia, who previously worked together in Oceans Eleven, Ocean's Twelve,Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, and he produced August: Osage County.
But the Descendants star will next be seen as inventor Frank Walker in Disney's Tomorrowland - hitting US/UK theaters May 22 - with Hugh Laurie, Judy Greer, and Britt Robertson.

MM, I wondered, kat19. But dismissed on th basis that George would probably have given up his seat - unless they met unexpectedly at that moment - and the glasses.

Recognised the face - but not sure. No idea about the other guy.........

That woman does look like Sonia Sotomayor. Amal did clerk for her years ago.

The man who talks to George at the bar looks like the actor Kevin Spacey. What you think?

My guess would be that he's the restaurant manager,  they're  waiting for Sotomayor and His Nibs is wising him up about his dinner guest........maybe?

90% sure the woman is Sotomayor but the man at the bar looks more like Donny Wahlberg to me than Kevin Spacey. It's probably neither one of them, but someone else altogether.

Probably is her... George in a suit AND tie.  Yup, he's dressed to impress.

And Amal is respectfully covered up.

I didn't know Sonia Sotomayor because I'm from Europe but I did a little research and OMG, this woman is amazing. From the Bronx to the US supreme court, wow! I have to get my hands on her biography!

Amal and George Clooney dined with Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor at Harry Cipriani at the Sherry-Netherland on Wednesday.
Spies said the Clooneys arrived early and waited at the bar for Sotomayor before the trio were discreetly seated at a corner table.
Amal reportedly worked for Sotomayor when she was a judge on the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York. Sotormayor has lectured for many years at Columbia Law School, where Amal is currently teaching.

George Clooney and wife Amal Clooney recently dined with a very high-profile, distinguished guest—Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
The three had dinner at the luxury Italian restaurant Harry Cipriani in New York City on Wednesday, E! News has learned. They have not commented.
A source said George and Amal arrived at the eatery first and waited for Sotomayor at the bar. The couple appeared very friendly with the people around them and the actor drank his own Casamigos Tequila, which is served regularly at the venue.
Sotomayor arrived later and dined with the pair for several hours. It was a very warm get-together, the source told E! News.

The dinner also marked a boss-employee reunion: Amal, a Lebanon-born, London-based human rights attorney, used to work as a student law clerk for Sotomayor when the justice was a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. At the time, Clooney's wife was enrolled in the NYU School of Law.
And as for George, well, he's hobnobbed with prominent figures before—he and then-girlfriend Stacy Keibler chatted with President Barack Obama at the actor's fundraiser for the U.S. leader in 2012 (see pics), months before he was re-elected. George and Obama later shot some hoops.
The actor and Amal, who recently celebrated their six-month wedding anniversary, are currently living in New York temporarily; He is there filming the movie Money Monster, while she is spending the spring guest teaching at Columbia Law School.

George & Amal Clooney Grab Drinks with Justice Sonia Sotomayor in N.Y.C.

It was another glamorous New York City date night for George and Amal Clooney.

The happy couple was spotted at Cipriani in Midtown Manhattan, where they met up with Justice Sonia Sotomayor for a quick drink before dinner on Wednesday evening, a source tells PEOPLE.

Amal, 37, previously worked as a law clerk for the justice when she was on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

"He enjoyed, rightfully so, his own Casamigos tequila," the source says of George, adding that the actor and Amal "were very warm and friendly with everybody and spent a few hours at the restaurant."

The Clooneys have been seen out and about in the Big Apple a lot as of late, as Amal is currently teaching at Columbia Law School while George, 53, shoots the New York-based movie Money Monster, directed by Jodie Foster and starring Julia Roberts.

I changed the title of this thread because it's more about their dinner with the supreme court justice than an advert for another restaurant where they had a meal.

Also, could we put make a habit of putting dates in the titles instead of saying, George and Amal had dinner yesterday, instead, please put the date and year.  It will help later in finding specific topics and threads.

I'd love to know if the other Justices give Clarence Thomas a hard time for collecting a paycheck all these years without uttering a significant word or writing a published opinion.
