International human rights lawyer Amal Clooney is using her knowledge to help others with a series of lectures at Columbia University.

The 37-year-old wife of Hollywood actor George was pictured walking around the campus as she made the most of a little sunshine on Monday.

According to the Guardian, the school recently announced she is to teach at the University this Spring as a visiting lecturer and a senior fellow with the law school’s Human Rights Institute.

She said in a statement: 'It is an honour to be invited as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School alongside such a distinguished faculty and talented student pool.

'I look forward to getting to know the next generation of human rights advocates studying here.'

Amal, former adviser to the former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan, notably advised the Greek government in its battle to repatriate the Elgin Marbles from Britain.

The fashion lover looked both smart and summery as she made her way into the building, wearing a white pencil skirt with a loose fitting cream top.

She completed the look with a matching belted trench coat and gave her look a pop of colour with a bright orange leather bag.

Clearly a huge fan of heels, the raven-haired beauty also wore cream shoes which had an orange floral design and tied her look nicely together. 

While Amal will have a lot of commitments with her teaching work, her husband will be close by to her as he will be filming his latest movie in New York. 

George, 53, is set to start work on Money Monster, along Julia Roberts and Dominic West, with the film slated for release later on in the year. 

It tells the story of Lee Gates, a TV personality whose insider tips have made him the money guru of Wall Street. 

When Kyle loses all of his family's money on a bad tip, he holds Lee and his entire show hostage on air threatening to kill Lee if he does not get the stock up 24 and a half points before the bell.

Meanwhile, George wants to make sure sightseers stay away from him and his wife when they're in Lake Como.

And he has the support of local authorities - with the town mayor warning that anyone who bothers the actor, his wife or his pals or sets foot on his property faces a hefty fine.

Roberto Pozzi, the mayor of Laglio, has issued a new ordinance to protect Clooney's privacy and prevent people from bothering him or Amal while they're in the exclusive enclave.

Anyone who disturbs the occupants of the main house Villa Oleandra or Villa Margherita, an adjoining property owned by Clooney, or who sets foot on the grounds without permission could be fined up to 500 Euros - or $600.

The former ER star purchased the luxury retreat in 2001 and parts of the film Ocean's Twelve were shot there.

Well, when the DM writes George visit this and that Restaurant in LA or NY we believe that too so what is your concern? I don't understand

I like Amal's "working outfit" very much. 

She wore those shoes last spring in London for the conference on women and sexual violence.  The one Angelina was at.  Im not sure I've got the conference right but definitely remember the shoes.

The outfit is nice, but the coat is stunning - beautifully tailored. It doesn't look like a belted trench, though - it looks more like a light weight wool. I'd love to know who made it - probably cost my rent for the year!

The coat is beautiful.  I'm not convinced it's a trench either.  Amal's style blog eventually should have the details of the coat and its price.  Yea maybe I can pick one up for next winter.  Ha!

I like most of here work outfits more than some casual clothings she wears when she's with George.

Seriously? You seriously can't figure out that women wear different style of clothes for different occasions, such as, say, a flirty fun short dress for dinner with her husband and a professional outfit for what's effectively her first day at work at a new job?

........ and a walk round a university campus to your new department is a little different to three strides from car to restaurant entrance and back after dinner, wouldn't you say?

I'd imagine Amal wears her "off duty fun clothes"
because she has to wear formal clothes in her work 
situation.
I'd also imagine that many other professional women 
do the same.

(And if riding horses is an off work hobby, then 
that's a third set of clothes that's needed.)

Look, I'm not playing in my hair today. She looks very professional and I love the coat as well. Agree with IDG about "her wearing a trench coat today but didn't have a problem with the mini-dress, crotch shot the other day".

Much as I'm not crazy about the woman, I have to say I like her sense of style. I really like most of her clothes - especially her "work" clothes. What I don't like is her choice of hem length for her casual clothes. IMO she's a little too old to be airing her hoo-ha in tiny minis. Not saying she has to wear old-lady midi skirts, but a couple of extra inches in length wouldn't hurt and, IMO, would add a touch of class.

I love her choice in work clothes but in her casual dress there is a thin line between classy and tasteless and those hoochy-coochi skirts cross that line.  IMO. I'll go back to lurking.

We all have different definitions of classy. Poise, politeness/kindness, elegance, attitude, self-confidence, smarts and style.  I think Amal embodies all of what I see as classy.  

Some of Amal's skirts/dresses are very short but I think she always carries it off.  I'm not offended in the least.

I think there is a line between fashionable and trying too hard, and another between confidence and overcompensating. My personal opinion is that Amal has occasionally crossed both during this sojourn in NYC.

But, she has an intelligent and caring husband who can help her find her balance.

Sometimes Amal does "look" like she may be overdressing when we see her out.  But it's her style.  I don't know what's she's thinking.  I wouldn't  wear some of the things she does but it doesn't make it wrong for her.  She's on public display.  She's not going to get every outfit right to everyone else's liking. We all make mistakes when we wear some outfits.  But we don't get photographed when we go to dinner or work.  Most important is for her to dress for herself.  Maybe she will adjust her over indulgence in designer clothes over time.  She used to mix her designer pieces with more ready to wear items.  I would like to see her do that more often.  But I think she will figure it out.

What I find interesting, yet not surprising, is the amount of press her outfits are getting, but not much, if anything about her lectures, student impressions of having her as a guest lecturer, her classes, etc. Appears that her time at the university is more fluff than substance. Just MO.

PigPen, if her lectures are all fluff guess she won't be asked back.  The fact that we've heard nothing about her lectures from the students or other professors tells us absolutely nothing.

Yeah, and the silence is deafening. JMO

I get your point PAN, but I was expecting more of " can't wait to attend her lectures, it's great to have her here," etc instead of what she's wearing.

I'm not sure there have been any lectures yet anyway, and it's not the students who are commenting on what she's wearing, is it?

To be honest, I would think that they probably have a bit more discretion about them. We don't see too many soundbites from students about their lecturers normally, do we? Unless of course, they want an extremely short career and a job with the National Enquirer instead. 

Let's see what happens in the next few weeks........

PAN -Sadly, I have the memory of a drunken gnat so can't remember exactly where or when , but I did see something on local tv where they tried to interview students at Columbia about taking her lectures. Unfortunately she hadn't begun her lectures yet and none of the students interviewed were in law school anyway so there was really nothing they could say. Pretty much a non-story.

Law students and other Columbia Law staff are going to exhibit more discretion about her than some paparazzi guy who followed her to work....they're there to learn not run to the nearest tabloid with an anecdote about her. So I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss her work as fluff.

For the record, there was a student on Twitter that is in her class and indicated that her lectures began last week. So take that for whatever it's worth to you.

And judging by the synopsis of her lectures, there doesn't seem to be anything fluffy about them at all - but I suspect it will be a witty delivery at times!

Amal has lectured before at colleges.  And she is an accomplished lawyer with lots of interesting international experience and expertise.  Why anyone would suggest she would be teaching a class and providing her students with no real substance is ridiculous.  

Just because Twitter isn't a buzz with talk about her as a lecturer does not in any way mean her students aren't learning and enjoying her class. It's an incredibly simplistic assertion with absolutely no credibility to it.

I saw something on twitter about a girl who took this course and they were having cake in class. Someone commented that Mrs Clooney probably wouldn't have been eating it. But it was more than a week ago so I don't know what that was about.

Boy, did you not read my post accurately. The point I'm making is, this is an intelligent woman lecturing at university, and the only press she gets is her wardrobe.

So PigPen what you meant is that the coverage by the press of her stint at Columbia is all about her wardrobe and not her actual lectures?  Yes I think some of us here did misinterpret what you wrote.  Your remark that her time at the university was more fluff than substance I think could easily be misconstrued as a negative comment about Amal, not about the media.  But I apologize if I misunderstood you.

This is what women, intelligent or not, have to deal with I guess. And I think also that's because there isn't much else to talk about. Actually we don't know anything about her lecturing this course so it's hard for the press to find something new to write about, other than her outfits.

Codexchick yes the press knows so little about Amal that the outfits she wears drives the coverage. I'm not surprised but I would think the students taking this course are getting a meaningful learning experience. The synopsis PAN posted shows what's being covered. Unfortunately the media can't be bothered with that.

PAN thanks for the info on the coat. I think it was one of the few things a lot of us agreed on re Amal. We loved her coat!
