George Clooney wanted for lead role in gay movie

Hollywood heart-throb George Clooney has been offered a starring role in a £50 million remake of the gay movie which inspired Brokeback Mountain.

Cult Australian flick The Set sparked outrage when it was released in Australia in the 1970s, when homosexuality was still illegal.

It led to violent clashes between pro and anti-gay demonstrators – and catapulted the movie into the global headlines.

The film is widely credited for making gay movies mainstream and as the inspiration behind 2005 Bafta award-winning hit Brokeback Mountain.

Now, more than 40s years later, the original is set receive a multi-million pound Hollywood makeover.

Australian scriptwriter and actor Roger Ward – who also penned the first movie – has offered Clooney a lead role.

A novel based on The Set went on sale in Britain this week and author Mr Ward is now in discussions to turn it into a £50 million film.

He said: ”I’ve approached George Clooney for one of the main roles – he’s one of Hollywood’s best talents and would be perfect for communicating the intense emotions seen on screen.”

Ha ha sorry missed the G off...

Sorry, but with all the gay rumors about him out there I think this should be the last role he would want to play. LOL

Sad though, it's a good 'meaty' (no pun intended ) role for him.

If he accepts the role of gay once again proves to be a great and
not to give importance to all the speculation about him

If he doesn't take the role, there are people who will say he's in the closet and won't come out. If he takes the role, there are those who will say they knew all along he was gay. Not a win-win situation.
Has George ever denied being gay or does he just avoid the issue?

I agree, not a win-win situation. Jake and what's-his-name didn't get forever labeled. No talk prior, and I've not heard any talk since. I know the one is dead, but no gay rumors.

@ melbert....I think that's the difference...there was no prior talk about Jake and Heath. But with G, there's been alot....

Look what starring in brokeback has done for Jake, all the blinditems etc. It's a shame he is a very talented young man,and now he will always have to deal with these sexual rumors, like so many others.My daughter is gay and she hates that she is always defined by her sexual orientation.

I was going to say, I thought there are rumors about Jake because he's single.

@lucy, I can understand the frustration you and your daughter must feel at times and I think that it's a terrible thing that people who are different than the "herd" in any way at all, no matter what it is, they get singled out and labled, based upon that difference and it doesn't matter how intelligent, creative or wonderful they truly are, they're always referenced by their difference and nothing else seems to get mentioned. Truly sad statement about our society at large.

Lucy, I hope that the "label" doesn't keep your daughter from being the beautiful person she is. All of our children are beautiful, but sometimes we have to remind them when they hear such terrible things out in the real world and we might not be right there to protect them.

She's fine Melbert, since getting the courage to admit it to herself and come out, I've never seen her so happy.The hardest part for her and what held her back for years was having to give up her organized religion. But life goes on and she is finding other ways to enjoy her spiritual beliefs.
