Not much. Too busy moving that long thing out of the way, messing with her hair and looking at the camera.Way2Old4Dis wrote:

The gloves are 2 1/2 or 3 too big must be size TOO BIG.
Opera gloves have to must be tight tight tight!
Oh what big blunder, and white bag not good. Match glove but not dress
I have too much expectation crashed.

I got the impression when she was speaking to Ryan Seacrest, that she wore the gloves (and carried the white purse) to emulate the black and white of the Je Suis Charlie buttons/signs that were all over the media after the terrorist attacks in Paris.

Just to be the fly in the ointment...
Some years back Brad Pitt won an award at the Golden Globes and thanked the "love of his life" - Gwenny Paltrow. She was touched also.
So protestations at award shows don't always portend a happily ever after ending. The proof will be in the pudding. Let's see where they're at in 2 years.

Amal Clooney at the Golden Globes 2015
Time to remove the blinders.
George is not in love for the first time in 53 years, as he states. How many people have stood up in front of the camera and said that their significant other/spouse was the love of their life - Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie, Bruce Wilis, Mel Gibson, and on and on and on. George was married once before (have you forgotten?) and he once loved her too or he would not have married her. This is his second marriage and with the way Hollywood is, with a large majority of the having 3rd, 4th, and even 5th spouses, only time will tell if he stays with Amal. While it is more likely than not, given his age and how much egg he would have on his face (and her too), it still is too early in the game.
Okay...I know this will not be well-received by let's be real ...it is Hollywood and George has been divorced before.

No fly in the ointment...I just said something along the same lines. It's time to take off the blinders and see that we are talking Hollywood here and he is an actor, after all. It's too early in the game to say this is it.LornaDoone wrote:Just to be the fly in the ointment...

George is older and seasoned (to put it kindly). He was wise to wait to get married. I think they are genuinely in love. I hope their marriage works. It may not. You can say that about any marriage. Living the Hollywood life makes it more challenging. I think George is up to it.
I thought they were a beautiful couple tonight. Classic. Old Hollywood. That's Clooney's style.

Oh give me a break! You don't have a single kind word to say about Amal. That's fine, that's your prerogative but please don't expect us to believe that you were actually expecting something good when it's clear to all of us that no matter what she did, you'd hate it.Alisonfan wrote:I have too much expectation crashed.

The gloves didn't tickle me either, think the fit wasn't as good as it should have been, but overall for her first red carpet I thought Amal was simply stunning. Together they definitely made a beautiful couple, but I knew they would do.

I agree with all the above :-) Great to see George "live" as it were and not quick snaps of him in a Sushi bar or Cabo. Looking forward to seeing a new film sometime soon too!

I think loving someone and being really in love are two different things. Yes George has been married but no one knows if that love was as deep and meaningful as this one. He was younger and had no idea how to make a relationship work or for that matter a marriage. I think George has found that special love with in Amal.

I read that in those gloves sometimes they need to be lose or they can be very uncomfortable and suffocating. I loved the look very elegant.

I think there might have been a reason for the gloves (which is probably why she may be have been repairing them or whatever) but it helped draw the cameras to the bag and then badge. And it worked! Product placement and all that?

Re: Amal Clooney at the Golden Globes 2015
Hmm, bit of a mish-mash, style-wise there. The dress was nice enough but maybe with her hair up? Those gloves were a definite fail though and there was something a little un-groomed about the overall look - I think she does casual/business better than formal, it allows more of her natural style/quirk to come through. Definitely not her best look to date.

I have to go with Katie on this. I was really looking forward to seeing both of them last night, but I was seriously underwhelmed by Amal's look. The dress was nice, but IMO nothing special. Hair and makeup were ok but have been better - maybe the rainy weather messed with her hair. I did like the earrings, but the bag and gloves - not so much. George, as usual. looked wonderful.
It occurred to me that maybe she "dressed down" a bit so she wouldn't grab all the attention from him on his big night. Just thinkin'.

Re: Amal Clooney at the Golden Globes 2015
I don't think the dress was the best for her body type and the gloves didn't help.
As for their marriage, what will be important is their actions, not the words. Marriages are hard, and are specially hard in George business. It's not just the job, is the media etc
Someone mention Brad and Angelina, they are an example. They are 2 of the biggest stars in the world, the tabloids have been attacking them for 10 years, they have busy lives and careers, and on top of that they have 6 kids. They're celebrating 10 years this year. Because they're committed to their family and their relationship. The reporters that were with them at the AFI awards were saying how madly in love about each other they are after 10 years.
If George and Amal will be together in 10 years, it will mean they were committed to their relationship and they have every chances of making it.
I hope they will. George deserves it.

Wonder if we'll see the vintage earrings again, since the dress design was too.
Interestingly the Amal Clooney style website has information on an exact match of her ring (again vintage and Harry Winston) which went under the hammer at Sothebys last year. Wonder which month..........

For what I saw and can say it was the best dress, absolutely. I liked the gloves but I hope women with larger arms don´t copy the style - they´ll look like going to milk a cow with large gloves LOL.
They made the best looking and most interesting people on a whole événement hands down and 6-0. There is no comparaison what so ever.

I didn't care for her dress. I think she looks best in bright colors. I thought she would be wearing a show stopper. The black dress seemed to make her look washed out. The gloves were too big for her arms. When attending these type of big events she usually goes all out. Thumbs down from me.

Re: Amal Clooney at the Golden Globes 2015
I've already given two thumbs up on both Amal and George's look last night. Wanted to add that I like that she wore her down naturally. She has always worn it pretty much the same way. Never seen her wear it up. And if she had gone with a far more glamorous look no doubt her critics would have criticized her for trying to steal attention away from George. Think she was channelling a little Audrey Hepburn. I mean just a little cause I think she always ends up reflecting her own style.
During George's speech could not take my eyes off his beautiful eyelashes.

Amal looked fine in her black dress and white leather gloves and bag.
She said she wanted to make a statement based around
the Je Suise Charlie campaign posters and buttons.
I believe this was only her second red carpet appearance. She wore a black dress for her first in Florence. I think she has a good skin tone to be able
to wear black, without it making her look washed out.

I also liked the D&G dress she wore in Florence a bit more than the Dior. I think the Dior might look better in person because of the design.
I was watching MSNBC news this morning and they reported on the GGs last night. The guest reporters and one of the hosts agreed that Amal had the best look last night.

Re: Amal Clooney at the Golden Globes 2015
Aside from the dress and everything, I found Amal behaved very demure, a bit reserved even. I can understand why one would be a little overwhelmed by the whole madness but she seemed rather underwhelmed. You could see sometimes that she really gazed into the camera during the interviews and I don't really know why she did that. And when George was on stage, she just seemed a little shy. She didn't really show any big emotions. And that shows, for me, that they are not together for very long and that they haven't been through a lot together either... Or maybe she just doesn't like to show emotion in public. This is just my impression of them together when seeing them live for the first time.

She looked as good or better than anyone there, without looking like she was trying too hard. Seemed either nervous or underwhelmed at times, but as long as she didn't do a back-to-the-camera-and-look-over-the-shoulder pose while tossing her hair, I'm fine. They have that first official US appearance out of the way, which is good. I don't even care if she shows up for the Oscars.

Re: Amal Clooney at the Golden Globes 2015
I didn't like the gloves or the bag. It look to formal for a Hollywood red carpet and the gloves were too big. Long gloves should be tight and she could have taken them off during the evening if they were too tight. Her hair didn't look great and I think the reason she always wear it down is because her face wouldn’t look good if she wore it up.
The black dress in Florence was better then this one. Because she has strong colours herself she should "risk"using strong colours like bright red. Black is too boring especially when she wears her hair like that.
I liked Jennifer Lopez dress and Viola Davies' dress and the girl in 12 years A Slave whose name I can't spell. Kelsey Grammar's daughter looked good too.
Amal tumbs down for me.

Brilliant. Simply brilliant.
Amal & George Clooney: Gloves at the Globes
So it’s not your wedding day. You’re there because your husband is receiving a lifetime achievement award – even though, as Tina Fey pointed out, you’re basically saving the world with your brain. Seeing as you’re not a useless tit then, you put some though in your outfit, right? You do if you’re Amal Clooney. She is a thinker.
For her then, a LOOK AT ME crazy couture gown is not the answer, no matter how disappointing that is to us. Because if she was in some LOOK AT ME crazy couture gown, our response would be like, pffft, who does she think she is showing up in some LOOK AT ME crazy couture gown.
At the same time…
You don’t want to bore our balls off either. You still kinda want to make a declaration. In England, when it’s all fancy and sh-t like this, they wear gloves. So, she went with white gloves. Which, as far as limelight-hogger moves go, is f-cking brilliant. Because, really, they’re just gloves with an unremarkable but flattering black dress. But they’re long white gloves. And Hollywood people just don’t do long white gloves (anymore). So it becomes a Conversation. It becomes THE Conversation.
Amal Clooney wears white gloves!
And now everyone’s talking about the white gloves.
Note, they were her own white gloves. She’s the kind of lady who has white gloves just lying around. Meaning she didn’t go extra, she didn’t run around town looking for them to complete her wardrobe, it wasn’t a full-time job deciding what to wear, we’re supposed to believe.
Amazing though the effect those white gloves had though. The kind of reaction they elicited, a very specific, precious to the point of pretentious kind of reaction.
My friend Lorella was all like, “white gloves are for white tie and the Globes are black tie”. And on Twitter Sarah went all Downton Abbey on measurements:
“Opera gloves go over your elbow. Amal Clooney is wearing elbow-length gloves.”
It’s the style version of which fork to use. All over a pair of gloves. Now THAT is how you cockblock a red carpet without leaving any fingerprints. No wonder he married her. She’s a star. And that brings us to his acceptance speech, a speech fitting for a Chairman, a speech from a leader – not too long, overly maudlin, not self-indulgent (he hardly talked about himself), not too preachy but also not too reach-for-the-stars…
And, because he’s the consummate entertainer after all, there was a gift wrapped for the rest of us too – the people who aren’t privileged enough to be in that room, drinking the champagne…
Didn’t you feel like you were there, at the wedding, and that that was his toast to the bride?
Duana and I talked afterwards to get organised about today’s posts and she brought it up first: “Am I losing it here or what, because I bought that, I bought that from him.” Me too. With conditions. That there has to be an ulterior motive. To which she replied while borrowing from Lily Tomlin.
“Well…two things can be true.”
And, really, what can you say to that?
Whatever his motivation, whether or not it’s a partnership for a bigger objective, it doesn’t mean there isn’t genuine love and affection there.
Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

Re: Amal Clooney at the Golden Globes 2015
It occurred to me that maybe she went for an understated look as a way of saying she's not a Hollywood wife competing for red carpet attention. It may be his world, but it's not hers - she's just visiting for his sake.

I don't think she looked all that great could have done without the gloves. Of course as I have been saying since day one, she had that coy little smile. She also kept looking at the monitors instead of the interviewer. And as far as George, it bothers me when you have to profess your love for someone in front of millions, it just seems so phony, he seems to treat her more like a daughter instead of a wife, ok there I said it.

Amal Alamuddin Clooney and the Rise of the Trophy Husband
It started when she arrived on the red carpet, the star of the Golden Globes show, the woman who came across as the big winner at last night’s ceremony. The funny thing is, she wasn’t nominated for anything. She has never even been in a movie or TV show or even a high school musical. But the Guardian got it exactly right when it said, “Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney and her husband have arrived.”
It’s not an overstatement to say everyone fell in love Sunday night with Amal Alamuddin Clooney, the woman who finally nabbed confirmed bachelor George Clooney.
I can’t say it better than Amy Poehler and Tina Fey (can anyone say anything better than these two?), who joked, “Amal is a human rights lawyer who worked on the Enron case, was an adviser to Kofi Annan regarding Syria and was selected for a three-person U.N. commission investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza Strip. So tonight her husband is getting a lifetime-achievement award.”
On the red carpet, when asked what she was wearing, Amal didn’t discuss the designer who made her dress (it was Dior), perpetuating the marketing scam in which celebrities, the richest people around, are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by billionaire designers to get attention for their gowns. No, she pointed out that there was a “Je Suis Charlie” button on her purse to show solidarity with the men and women of Charlie Hebdo who were killed by terrorists for exercising their right to free speech. She couldn’t care less about the garment industry; there are real-world issues that she wants to give attention to.
She wasn’t the only celebrity to show solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Paris, but she was one of the few wearing gloves on the red carpet, a choice many of the professional fashion advisers thought was tacky. But Amal does not care. Those gloves said, “O.K., fine, I will play along and get dressed up in formal wear for this event, but I think these gloves are cute and I’m wearing them, and I don’t care how many episodes of Fashion Police I’m on because I don’t even own a television set, so there.”
When George finally had his big moment, he tried to make it not about himself but about his wife and the Charlie Hebdo attacks. “Amal, whatever alchemy brought us together, I couldn’t be prouder to be your husband,” he said, before reminding people about what was going on in France. Clooney’s speech tried to take away the importance of his movie roles (remember Leatherheads, anyone?), and instead focused on what is important—and that is Amal. Even George defines himself not as a movie star but as a man who is married to an amazing woman. He could have settled for Stacy Keibler or Renée Zellweger, but instead he married an Oxford graduate who could probably beat Hillary Clinton for President, if only she were American.
Husbands were getting ignored all over the place Sunday night. Channing Tatum, currently one of the biggest box-office draws in Tinseltown, was on “train patrol” for his wife, the much-lesser-known Jenna Dewan Tatum, fanning out her long dress for the wide shots on the red carpet. When Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber walked down the red carpet, he was generally ignored next to his wife, even though they were both nominated. That’s what being on television will do to you, Liev. Reese Witherspoon’s power-agent husband was with her at her table inside the event, but Cheryl Strayed, the woman she played in Wild, was the one who walked beside her when they stood next to Ryan Seacrest.
Maybe Reese’s man just didn’t want any part of the spectacle. When the camera would cut to her at any time during the evening, it was like she was considering all the things she would rather be doing with her time, like fighting for civil rights and making the world a better place. For her part, Amal looked like she was barely tolerating being there, like a wife dragged to her husband’s boring work dinner. And that’s all this was with her in attendance: someone else’s professional convention.
In fact, having Amal at the ceremony certainly threw the whole thing into perspective and threatened to undermine the legitimacy of the proceedings. We’re being duped into thinking that very rich people who are given every advantage in life, getting more accolades and awards, is somehow news. That it is something that should be covered rapturously by every news outlet in the world, with even more slide shows and reviews than the protests in Paris or Ferguson or wherever they’re happening these days.
When George drags Amal to the Golden Globes, we realize how petty these awards truly are, just more of Hollywood breaking its arm patting itself on the back and duping us into buying more movie tickets, watching more shows, consuming more commercials, feeding the consumerist beast that Amal Clooney is trying to fight back into a cage every damn day. We always thought that she was the woman who finally snared George Clooney, but it’s the other way around. And we’re all better off for it.

Re: Amal Clooney at the Golden Globes 2015
Maybe after all these years of listening to colleagues thank their respective significant others, he's enjoying the fact that he's finally with someone he feels strongly enough about to get a little emotional in a public setting. Look, for those who believe this is all smoke and mirrors, he'll never be able to do anything that proves otherwise. For those who think he's finally found The One (*waves*), we'll melt every time he does one of these loved up speeches from the stage. Just because they may not last till death do they part doesn't take anything away from the fact that in that moment, last night, he said what he truly felt.
Lainey had an interesting take on it today. She's super cynical re: Amalooney, but she bought his emotion last night. And her point was, it's possible he's with her both because he likes the cache she gives him in the humanitarian world (or some other motive) AND because he adores her. There's no reason it can't be both at the same time. We all pick our person because of a variety of reasons, both conscious and subconscious. George and Amal are no different.

Re: Amal Clooney at the Golden Globes 2015
Yep.
I remember Charlie Rose at the time of the engagement saying that George was a more serious person than some realised, and I think his comment on the stage about not maturing was interesting.
His tolerance of some of the increasingly shallow stuff on red carpets becos that's what you have to do has always amazed me, and he often finds a way to bring in a more serious vein (usually humanitarian). So last night with Amal doing the same was brilliant.
It was lovely to hear him saying what he did last night.
And I'd still love to who introduced them!! Bet whoever it was was at the wedding........
